I only have space for one. Have had neither previously. What would you choose? X

Dishwashers don’t sterilise anything they’re not hot enough for that!! 😂

I think you will find commercial ones are.

Dishwasher but I would also get a dehumidifier for wherever the clothes are dried.

I agree with this

Dryer

Tumble dryer

We have a dishwasher. No space for a tumble dryer as well as a washing machine so have a washer dryer. It’s the top of the range Bosch - it’s excellent. I don’t know if this is an option?

How often do you have to remove fluff etc?

elm26 · 29/10/2024 19:56

Depends on circumstances!

My DH has a uniform for work and we have a 17 month old so we go through a lot of washing, we live in a flat with no access to drying laundry on a line, so I couldn't be without our tumble dryer especially during the rainy/cold months.

Only me and DD here in the day so washing up is minimal and then just dinner washing up so can live without a dishwasher although I'd love one!

Nightvax · 29/10/2024 19:57

I think it depends on how many in your house and the loads of dishes/washing you go through.
For me the tumble is invaluable as we go through so many towels with 5 people and activities like gym/swimming lessons, they take ages to dry, however I don’t put clothes in mine because im so worried about shrinking them, I just dry towels, bedding, pjs & some underwear, now and again it’s handy if I’ve forgotten to put the dcs uniform on the airer, I half dry it with the tumble then finish it off with the hairdryer 😂

Dishwasher

Mailys · 29/10/2024 19:59

Any chance you can move things around at all and put in a slimline dishwasher and also have a dryer? My sister has a slimline dishwasher and it's surprising how much you can fit in it!

Wolfpa · 29/10/2024 19:59

Dishwasher they are more environmentally friendly than hand washing whereas a tumble dryer is not great for the environment and your electricity bill.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 29/10/2024 20:00

Do you have a shed or garage you can put power to?

Our tumble dryer is in a big shed a few steps from our house.

It works fine in there. I couldn't fit both and that was the compromise.

It's not a full size one so sits on a bit of worktop.

OldTinHat · 29/10/2024 20:00

Dishwasher.

Interesting replies so far. It would be the tumble dryer for me. I could not be bothered with trying to dry all the laundry without one. Washing up only takes a couple of minutes if you do it straight away.

Me too.
I only got a tumble within the last 10 years.
I now couldn't live without it.
It's certainly quicker for me, to wash the pots , than stack and unstack a dishwasher ( my back wouldn't like the bending either )

ALittleHumptyDumpty · 29/10/2024 20:01

Dishwasher.

No question.

letshavetea · 29/10/2024 20:01

@SoporificLettuce - you don’t remove fluff from the Bosch washer drier directly but a light comes on periodically telling you to do a drum clean. I also use a washing machine cleaner (the one time use ones you buy at the supermarket).

I think you will find you mean sanitise. There is a huge difference between sanitise and sterilise.

Thanks for the info.
I have a washer/ dryer built in to my rented house- but the dryer is rubbish so I only use the washing function.

Would consider getting a good one if / when I move and need to supply my own.

Bosch is hard to beat. Daughter has a Bosch washing machine . Appreciate your reply.

Commercial ones run a bit hotter but nowhere near the temperatures necessary for sterilisation.

mondaytosunday · 29/10/2024 20:11

Dishwasher but I'd get a combination washer/dryer when you come to replace your washing machine. I have one, second hand from renters, works a treat.

When we were a couple, we preferred a dishwasher, but now we are at family of 4 I absolutely HATE how many clothes are always draped around the house, even with a (useless) washer dryer and a bit better heated airer. A baby plus a toddler who has a uniform and hasn't quite cracked potty training means I have unbelievable amounts of laundry. At this point, I'm considering putting a tumble dryer in the corner of the dining room, just to try and clear it all.

Until we remodelled the kitchen my tumble dryer lived in the conservatory.

coxesorangepippin · 29/10/2024 20:11

Tumble dryer

Unless you live somewhere warm, sunny, with a large washing line??

letshavetea · 29/10/2024 20:11

@SoporificLettuce -
your very welcome. Do get the higher rated (serie 6). It has a bigger drum (10kg). More epensive but worth it. John Lewis had interest free credit when we bought ours.

coxesorangepippin · 29/10/2024 20:12

Do the combination ones actually work? I've used 2 and neither did

TeddyBeans · 29/10/2024 20:15

I have a washer dryer and a dishwasher 😁 the washer dryer is amazing for bedding with it's combined wash/dry cycle but you can also do separate wash and dry cycles. I don't tend to tumble a lot (bedding and towels mostly) but the 30 minute dry cycle is great for getting the last bits of damp out of something you need to wear that day!

I can't stand doing dishes so a dishwasher is an absolute must for me so if I absolutely had to choose, it would be a dishwasher hands down

Maria1982 · 29/10/2024 20:17

Dishwasher for me !!!
but it’s maybe just what I’m used to- I grew up without a tumble dryer but with a dishwasher so 🤷‍♀️
