I only have space for one. Have had neither previously. What would you choose? X

Dishwasher - it is a huge huge time saver and helps keep the kitchen tidier and more hygenic as the day goes on - dirty mugs etc go straight into the dishwasher to keep surfaces clear.

It's a pain in the arse but you can dry clothes outside on a line if its not raining, or in the airing cupboard or on a heated airer or on radiators if it is raining - but stuff will dry on its own without any effort. Washing up dishes is time consuming and a lot of effort.

If you have a washing machine change it for a washer/dryer to fill in the gaps. Highly recommend Bosch washer/dryer - it's awesome.

Another vote for tumble dryer. It's easy to wash up as. You go along

good96 · 29/10/2024 19:30

I’d have both. Dishwasher in kitchen then build an outshed by the back door for a tumble dryer!

YorkshireIndie · 29/10/2024 19:31

Dishwasher because you do not want piles of plates etc piling up

Tupster · 29/10/2024 19:32

Another vote for dishwasher - but if you really want a tumble dryer, they don't have to be plumbed so can actually go in many other parts of the house that aren't the kitchen

Also summer tumble dryer after the last two "summers" we've had!

Tumbler dryer x100. I've only just got one after years of making do with clothes horses in winter, in between the hokey pokey with the washingline. I couldn't deal with another year of clothes hanging in every space, having to wait days for things to dry, running dehumidifiers, airing the rooms to stop damp and mould.

We have a dishwasher. No space for a tumble dryer as well as a washing machine so have a washer dryer. It’s the top of the range Bosch - it’s excellent. I don’t know if this is an option?

TicTac80 · 29/10/2024 19:35

I have a tumble drier in my outside shed, so useful when it’s raining, or if I have to wash a lot of stuff quickly. I have a slimline dishwasher in kitchen (tiny kitchen and house). V useful but I think I’d still go for the drier.

I'd expect any place that served food to have a dishwasher to sterilise the pots and cutlery.

You expect too much. Dishwashers don’t get hot enough to sterilise anything.

In time it could be. I have a washing machine and not long moved and have a space in my kitchen which is why I was thinking one or the other. Maybe get a dishwasher. ... then as you say In time replace washer
At the min it's only 2 years old. But I can appreciate the sense in this
Thank you x

Dishwasher and get combi washing machine/dryer.

Noodlesnotstrudels · 29/10/2024 19:36

When we were a couple, we preferred a dishwasher, but now we are at family of 4 I absolutely HATE how many clothes are always draped around the house, even with a (useless) washer dryer and a bit better heated airer. A baby plus a toddler who has a uniform and hasn't quite cracked potty training means I have unbelievable amounts of laundry. At this point, I'm considering putting a tumble dryer in the corner of the dining room, just to try and clear it all.

I've worked in catering for a long time. I'd much prefer anyone serving food to wash the dishes and especially the cutlery in a dishwasher at a much higher temperature than hand washing.

It's horrible isn't it. Especially in wet cold weather. Feels like a losing battle.

If it’s any comfort to you our washer was only two years old when we had to sell it to buy the washer dryer! I decided I couldn’t manage any longer! I’m very pleased with what we have now.

SleepQuest33 · 29/10/2024 19:38

I have both but if I had to choose it would be tumble drier 100%

do you have children? We seem to wash clothes every other day because of the amount they do through. Dishes are easier to wash up as and when, also, if you have children it’s an activity they can be involved in, take charge of a couple of times a week and also engage in conversation whilst they do it.

Kaens · 29/10/2024 19:39

Definitely dishwasher !

Dishwasher, I hate hand washing. I only use the dryer for bedding and towels.

stopringingme · 29/10/2024 19:43

Dishwasher

Redlarge · 29/10/2024 19:47

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go for dishwasher and as soon as I can afford switch to the bosch.

I had this dilemma and went for a dishwasher and a washer/dryer.

Then I converted the Airing Cupboard to get electric put in it so 2 years later I have a dryer up there.

Uricon2 · 29/10/2024 19:48

Tumble dryer every time.

Dishwashers don’t sterilise anything they’re not hot enough for that!! 😂
