What do you make of this house?

I kind of like bits of it - the pink bannisters, beautiful cornicing/ceiling roses, amazing exterior, but other bits are a bit too much of a modern mishmash.

It's interior designed ( obviously), and the price for the area is very toppy.

Just wondering what anyone else thinks.

I like the wallpaper going up the stairwell. To my surprise, as I usually loathe 'modern' decor in period houses, I like the whole thing.

PattyDuckface · 09/10/2024 20:43

Ok, but for that price it should be a bit more soulful

Where's the garden, the roses and the beautiful English light?

Suppose you are bang in the middle of culture though

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/10/2024 22:19

The interior is as twee as fuck and the extension is ugly.

No way are they getting that price for a house off the more minging end of the South Circular - baby blue bathroom or no baby blue bathroom.

MulberryPeony · 10/10/2024 06:38

I think it looks fabulous overall. Very cohesive and done to a very high standard. Not sure what the photo of the football net is for though. I’m unsettled by the blue bathroom but I think it’s the blue mirror? The kitchen is quirky but it’s so lovely to see some colour on RM.

Inspireme2 · 10/10/2024 06:43

I like the bright airy look.
The bathroom, hideous and some of the furniture looks cheap and junky besides the childrens playroom.
The outdoor area looks drab.

Hello98765 · 10/10/2024 06:57

It feels like they are trying to pass the interior design costs onto the buyer, which when the scheme is quite out there is a little optimistic.

BlackToes · 10/10/2024 07:02

I like the painted pink walls but dislike the painted woodwork. Not sure about the pink with the blue.

I agree with this. I think it’s an interesting bit of interior design. If I was actively looking to buy though I’d be put off as it’s not all my taste so I’d feel I was wrecking their work. It wouldn’t go with my furniture and it’s designed to work with that, so anyone buying it would need to consider the cost of fitting it out too.

I wouldn’t either spend that money on a house just off Stansted Road, even on a nice road. There are big houses like that off towards Sydenham that I’d look to for SE23, or Wood Vale/Horniman end. The air quality and traffic is just awful there.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/10/2024 07:18

Ha ha yes. Well located for the Shurguard self storage facility, the horrible pub that no one goes to and the the odd Turkish banqueting place that jams up the road regularly with 2204643 cars and crowds of men smoking though!

Starseeking · 10/10/2024 07:25

Lovely house, but the price 🫠🫠🫠

HotSource · 10/10/2024 07:29

Odd to sell within 2 years.
If they planned to renovate and sell why put so much expense into hand made bespoke designed wallpaper with such a niche personal taste? The gush on the design website is about supporting the family as they grow over the coming years…

Odd there is no pic of the driveway in front on the house ‘with room for several cars ‘ as this is a big selling point in London.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/10/2024 07:32

I'm local and the price is very toppy for the area. There aren't many houses of that size but they want about £1m more than similarly sized houses on the market at the moment.

I am not sure some painted wood and a blue bathroom is worth an additional million pounds.

Positivenancy · 10/10/2024 07:36

i don’t like it at all…it’s way too much. I couldn’t live in it, it would give me a headache .

Zonder · 10/10/2024 07:37

It's not what I'd have but it's beautifully done.

I don't think the EA has done them any favours - the focus seems to be more on odd bits of furniture that won't be staying with the house, rather than the bigger picture. Like how does the photo of the goal in the garden help? Ooh look, you could put a goal in the garden that you can't actually see the shape or size of.

Around the corner from me, I know the owners. I love it, but I’d say to their face that they’re going to struggle to sell it at that price. The ‘hood is nice but the market for properties of that size at that price when the Dulwiches are its rivals is very small.

I agree with this. It's possible to make a house a bit too expensive for the area, when people with those budgets would rather use it to buy somewhere maybe one bedroom smaller in a nearby "better" area. Especially at 6 bedrooms.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/10/2024 07:44

As people have said, it's not even the nicest area of Forest Hill.

hattie43 · 10/10/2024 07:45

The house is too over extended for me to the point it doesn't look a streamlined house at the back . It looks like someone has squeezed the arse out of it to get as much space as possible . The front of the house looks lovely .
The inside is tastefully done but not to my colour palette choices .

ShellFace · 10/10/2024 07:49

The bones of the house are nice- windows, room sizes, proportions, fireplaces, plasterwork .... it's wonderfully spacious....but I don't like the style/ decor/ furniture/ colours at all. Too much baby pink... sky blue.... personally I don't like any grey.

It's trying very hard to be 'stylish'...that "playroom" where the toys appear to have been chosen for their appearance...

The decor/ staging would do nothing to persuade me to buy it - I would be mentally calculating the time, the inconvenience and the expense of redecorating and re-flooring everything.

Somehow though, I really adore the pinky colour above the picture rail in the sitting room.

Warmwoolytights · 10/10/2024 07:55

I’ve been having a nice time in RightMove and for less than this house you can get some really lovely houses in full-on aspirational areas nearby. Fewer bedrooms, less floor space sure, but still big family houses with plenty of space - most people will sacrifice a sixth bedroom and a playroom for area I reckon.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some lovely family houses near there and a great community. But with that much money, you have a massive choice of houses and areas.

EveryDayisFriday · 10/10/2024 07:59

It's not for me, all the blue and pink makes me feel likes it's a gender reveal party.
I don't have a spare £3m anyway.

StolenChanel · 10/10/2024 08:02

I absolutely love it. If only I had £2.75m going spare…

FriendOrNo · 10/10/2024 08:17

It's giving me 80's vibes, so it's a no from me. I like the pink, don't like the blue with it or the marble.

grannypants22 · 10/10/2024 08:20

I love it. It looks like Pinterest has thrown up all over it but I do like it all except for the blue bathroom.

charlieinthehaystack · 10/10/2024 08:25

Not very practical very showhouse style but well done

FasterMichelin · 10/10/2024 08:51

Beautiful bones and structure, but I'm not a fan of overstylised houses; too much paint and wallpaper.

The pink banister would become grubby in minutes of a child living there. As would most of it to be honest.

Less is more in my opinion.
