What do you make of this house?

I kind of like bits of it - the pink bannisters, beautiful cornicing/ceiling roses, amazing exterior, but other bits are a bit too much of a modern mishmash.

It's interior designed ( obviously), and the price for the area is very toppy.

Just wondering what anyone else thinks.

I think it's beautifully done and wonder if the owners are the architects/interior designers who revamped it as there seems to be such commitment to the aesthetic. Like @ComtesseDeSpair , I wonder if that price is achievable on that street.

Beamur · 09/10/2024 16:34

There are some nice bits but it looks overextended and a bit over designed. There's nothing personal or individual.
It doesn't look real.

BourbonsAreOverated · 09/10/2024 16:35

I love it.

MichaelandKirk · 09/10/2024 16:37

Love the size and of course the playroom, kids furniture is not going to be there when you move in. Looking at Street View it looks a nice street too. Most of the colours can be easily changed to make it look very different. Not sure about the kitchen but its a style.

I am from London so know that house prices can come as a shock to others but maybe they are expecting say a 10% drop in the eventual sale price. Nice to see something different (and nice garden too!)

I hate everything about it. Poor house :(

MichaelandKirk · 09/10/2024 16:40

Its styled to sell which makes a change from creased or even unmade beds with clutter everywhere. I do dip in and out of Property threads and its nice to see something presented with some though behind it.

C152 · 09/10/2024 16:40

I can't stand box extensions. The rest of it seems a bit of an odd mix to me. They've spent a lot of money on some things, then have skimped on other obvious things. It's also pretty extreme price for the area.

MichaelandKirk · 09/10/2024 16:41

Dont know the area at all though. In places like Chiswick or Barnes that would go at that price and its a HUGE house for London. Need to take the playhouse out from the front window. It looks naff as its partly blocking the window itself!

TeeBee · 09/10/2024 16:41

I dislike all of the styling but the house has great bones. If I bought it, I'd have to remove a lot of the decor and it would cost me a fortune having to replace all of the horrible (in my opinion) flooring. But it would be worth it to restore the house to its glory.

Hey Barbie!

Ceilingplatter · 09/10/2024 16:42

I love the playhouse and pink stairs! Personally I never like those storage container extensions though

Twiglets1 · 09/10/2024 16:42

I don’t like it.

I love it!

Skyrainlight · 09/10/2024 16:43

I don't like it and it feels like it will date in two seconds.

Pinkchicken75 · 09/10/2024 16:44

I adore this ,I love Pink !

Toddlerteaplease · 09/10/2024 16:46

Not keen on the marble, but apart from that it's lovely.

TeenToTwenties · 09/10/2024 16:47

I think it is fine, nothing unbearable.
Just paint the bits you don't like.
Who cares about the playhouse- it will be going anyway.

GaladrielHiggins · 09/10/2024 16:47

For some reason it reminds me of a Wes Anderson movie set

housethatbuiltme · 09/10/2024 16:47

I'm going to buck the trend but I HATE it.

The modern elements look so utterly tacky. Its really a shame because the house would have been lovely if extended and decorated sympathetically.

readingismycardio · 09/10/2024 16:49

I love it, except the blue bathroom, but hey, if I could have the house, I could live with it Blush

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/10/2024 16:49

pinklemonsparkle · 09/10/2024 16:18

@ComtesseDeSpair what was the house like before the renovation, or did they buy a project to do up?

It doesn't look like anybody actually lives there! 😳

It was quite typical of the sort of properties of that size which have been coming up for sale in the area over the past few years: good bones with original late-Victorian features and a load of add-ons of whatever was fashionable in just about every decade since. Normal family homes before SE23 began to gentrify and prices rocketed, being sold by older people, in need of a lot of modernisation.

In comparison, a house very similar (in pre reno condition) on nearby Alleyn’s Road just went under offer for £1.1 million. It won’t take £1.5 million to turn it into something really nice, and many prospective buyers are going to be keenly aware of that.

(I am aware I sound like a nosey neighbourhood busybody who knows everything that goes on, I absolutely am.)

LittleBobbyDazzler · 09/10/2024 16:51

Not to my taste but clearly thiers and they have injected lots of personality into it which is so much better than these sterile boxes you see everywhere. The curved kitchen cabinets really are not doing it for me. Love the colour (not the marble) but the shape makes me unsettled for unknown reasons!

Playroom and Playhouse is the stuff of dreams for kids!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/10/2024 16:52

Those shelves remind me of the 80s.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2024 16:52

I hate it.

That said, I do prefer it to the acres of bland greige and shiny floors you often see.

Plexie · 09/10/2024 16:54

I know the area and there's no way a house on that road (or indeed anywhere in Forest Hill) is worth £2.75m.

I like the decor but take away the furniture and you're just left with original plaster ceilings painted in pretty colours. They haven't even had the garden landscaped!

TheCultureHusks · 09/10/2024 16:57

Just really STYLED so it appears very soulless, though technically ‘nice’
