Don't people neutralise before selling any longer ?

found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/145090202 Oh my eyes

The only thing I don't like is the communal garden. The colour of the kitchen cupboards is not to my taste but is easily changed.

Rainbowshine · 26/02/2024 13:56

It’s more appealing than the bland grey everywhere look. I think it’s pretty neutral, I thought from your outrage that it would look like an old episode of Changing Rooms!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 26/02/2024 14:07

Well the kitchen's an issue but the rest of it's just wallpaper. I'd buy it if I was looking for a flat in Edinburgh.

Tupster · 26/02/2024 14:12

I think it's nice, I'd happily move in to that.

Oneofthesurvivors · 26/02/2024 14:16

I've never understood why anyone neutralises. People have imaginations.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 26/02/2024 14:16

Kitchen can be changed with paint or new doors. I'm more concerned about the bath - how the hell do you step into that and get out?

Justkeepswimmingswimming · 26/02/2024 14:18

I would be more concerned about the bath/shower.

skilpadde · 26/02/2024 14:20

I was expecting something awful, but this is completely fine, nice even.

Has a sea of grey from floor to ceiling become so normalised that a bit of colour or pattern is seen as an assault on the eyes?

Runningwildish · 26/02/2024 14:23

I love all of it

EeeewDavid · 26/02/2024 14:23

You want them to remove any character they have added (to a high standard by the looks of it) and paint the whole lots white/grey because some people don't have the foresight to see past existing decor?

The chances are anyone who moves in to any house is going to want to redecorate at some point so why bother doing a job they're just going to do again. And if you're focussing on the kitchen cupboards, they have already made that sooooo easy by just keeping the colour to one element rather than the worktops, tiles/walls, etc.

MandyRiceDavies · 26/02/2024 14:25

Looks good to me. My only issue would be feeling as I was in my grave when having a bath.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 26/02/2024 14:26

Runningwildish · 26/02/2024 14:23

I love all of it

Shame it's a) in Edinburgh and b) too expensive for me.

(Nothing against Edinburgh, before anyone asks).

feellikeanalien · 26/02/2024 14:26

I actually like the kitchen. The bath is a bit weird though. All grey would put me off much more than that as I would need to redecorate all of it then.

Growlybear83 · 26/02/2024 14:27

It's been a long time since I moved house, but are people really so shallow nowadays that they would be put off a property because of the decoration or colour of the kitchen units? You could easily change the entire property to your own taste within a couple of weeks.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/02/2024 14:29

It's lovely, I don't like the clashing bed covers with walls and would've changed them for the photos but apart from that it's great, even the kitchen.

People want everything grey🙄

Lassiata · 26/02/2024 14:30

@FuzzyManul a communal garden is not going to surprise anyone flat-hunting in Edinburgh though? Or do you mean you dislike this one in particular?

OP honestly if you think this flat is bold and wacky do you live in a monochrome house? It's pretty neutral aside from the kitchen which I don't mind. Change the cabinet doors and it's normal af.

I think in Scotland people often do use more pattern. I like that in many cases.

Lassiata · 26/02/2024 14:31

Haha just noticed the bath, that is unusual though vastly preferable to no bath.

Reallybadidea · 26/02/2024 14:32

Maximalism is far more on-trend than grey now.

Not all of it is to my personal taste, but overall I think it suits the style of the property and at least is interesting!

JaninaDuszejko · 26/02/2024 14:33

It's a lovely flat in a great location. Not sure what your issue with it is. Wallpaper is easy to change and kitchen units can be repainted.

When we were last looking we deliberately bought a house that was a much loved and cared for family home rather than a cheaply 'neutralised' house, I don't trust property flippers to do a quality job, they are interested in maximising profit. We are slowly updating to our taste and using good quality materials that should have minimum impact on the environment and should last a long time.

Mercurial123 · 26/02/2024 14:33

So many people lack imagination when it comes to house buying. Redecoration is not a big deal.

ApoodlecalledPenny · 26/02/2024 14:34

It’s absolutely beautiful- except for the claustrophobic nightmare that is the en-suite bath. I even like the kitchen.

Giggorata · 26/02/2024 14:38

I won't bother neutralising, if I come to sell. Why bother, when people will rip everything out and redecorate?
if people look at the colour of my walls or my sofa instead of the possibilities of the house, them let them go to a grey or beige clone down the street.

MissusKay · 26/02/2024 14:41

It's fine.

My favorite attempt at neutralizing is tying a towel/small sheet to a pole dancing pole. It brings even more attention to it. In that case, I'm surprised they didn't remove it before taking photos

DiamondGazette · 26/02/2024 14:43

I thought this was going to be a link to that house that used to be a public swimming pool and has been renovated in an extremely quirky way with a bowling alley and giant scary clown statue. It gets flagged up here regularly, mainly because of the decor and the fact no-one wants to buy it.

This Edinburgh flat is delightful.
