I am not a stylist person by any means, we are house hunting and I love this house. The location is perfect for us . DH would prefer a project and somewhere with more character. I love the fact we can just move in and it's chain free.

What do you think?This house

If you can afford it and it’s where you want to be, then it’s a lovely house. I’m mid renovation right now and it’s hellish - incredibly expensive.

Karmatime · 27/11/2023 15:35

It’s a lovely house, looks well finished and the layout is great. I love the kitchen. However I’m partly with your DH. I’d prefer something with character, high ceilings, cornices, period fireplaces etc. I wouldn’t want a project though so it depends whether a similarly sized period property in walk in condition would be within budget.

YesIDoJudge · 27/11/2023 15:45

I wouldn't buy that house. It looks like Mrs Hinch decorated it. Bland and the pictures are photoshop awful too.

FallingAutumnLeaf · 27/11/2023 15:47

I had to double check it wasn't a new build, with computer generated images!
Is fine. If the space and location was what I was after, in a price bracket I could afford (HOW much?!) I'd certainly go look.

Personally, I'd want a wall between the dining room and (second) living room, and several less bathrooms to clean.

rasellagirl · 27/11/2023 15:47

It’s awful. Completely characterless.

LimeCheesecake · 27/11/2023 15:47

does the size and layout work for you? You said the location is good and you can afford it. The decoration is a bit bland but you can add to that over time. Does your dh have a preferred property?

LIZS · 27/11/2023 15:48

Agree it is very neutral. For that price I'd want a sea-view.

Libre2 · 27/11/2023 15:49

No, I wouldn't. It's completely soulless with a horrible, boxy little garden. Sorry... But you know, I don't have to live in it and everyone is different.

OldTinHat · 27/11/2023 15:50

No.

dollybird · 27/11/2023 15:52

It doesn't look real. I'd need to see it in person.

Tereseta · 27/11/2023 15:52

Why are the images all fake? It looks a bit soulless for me and for that price I would expect sea views

IfAIwasfedMN · 27/11/2023 15:53

I like the sizes of the rooms but for me the bathrooms are too beige and built in (never again, leaks that aren't easy to access are a pain and cause damage quickly) and I'd worry it would be super hot in the summer with the kitchen roof so open to the sun. I also am not keen on that beach and can't imagine much worse than being near it in the summer months with tourists everywhere. Is there a reason you like that area? You seem to have a budget that would allow for a much nicer area?

ibelieveinmirrorballs · 27/11/2023 15:54

Those images ARE computer generated, surely?!

platinumplus · 27/11/2023 15:54

It's ok but a bit of a white box.

I don't like the giant steel running down the middle of the kitchen. Would be better to have just left a wall there.

Garden seems small for the house size.

I don't know the area but it seems like a lot of money for a relatively small plot size.

OzziePopPop · 27/11/2023 15:57

Why is the balcony unusable? There’s no door to it, just windows??

Its not for me OP but it’s nice enough if you like grey.

Twiglets1 · 27/11/2023 15:57

Yes I really like it.

It's true the garden is a bit on the small side but not everyone wants a big garden or to do much (any) gardening. I would like that it's low maintenance.

Yes on the virtual walkthrough there's no furniture in there

GreatGateauxsby · 27/11/2023 16:01

people are being rude about the decor and often can’t see past that.

I live in a period house and I think this house looks lovely…our attic extension was a white box but £400 of wallpaper / paint and accessories later) later gets a lot of compliments

if you can afford it and the utilities (3000 sq feet is big!) and like it I would go for it.

location looks amazing and honestly you can paint / decorate and add character.
my fave aspect of this house is actually the layout good regular rooms… maybe tooooo many bathrooms for my liking but you can’t have everything….

Diyextension · 27/11/2023 16:02

Its a nice house, but for the money its too close to the neighbours for my liking.

MyAmaryllisSeemsDead · 27/11/2023 16:02

I live round the corner. It is a new build.

Netherlandsfirst · 27/11/2023 16:03

Don't know the area so speaking purely on layout I think it's quite awkward. The smaller room at the front is not very big for such a grand house and it's quite cut off from the rest of the house. The back rooms have an awkward configuration. It feels like the space between the kitchen and the lounge area is just lost, and yet that has the nicest garden views. The lounge area then doesn't really connect to the kitchen space, so it doesn't seem to have the benefits of an open plan layout that they've tried to achieve. I don't quite know how it would work for our family, but it depends how you live.

On the plus side upstairs is great, parking looks good. The garden is a good enough size as it's wide if not deep, but would need an overhaul to give more privacy and landscaping.

But agree with other pp overall it's nothing special. Perhaps it's the photos but the spec doesn't look like it quite matches the price tag? I was expecting something more stylish as a finished project.

Bellyblueboy · 27/11/2023 16:04

Its beautiful. Yes the decor isn’t great - but you could put your own stamp on it and remove the generic boring bits quite easily.

the one thing that would put me off is the garden. It needs some character:

NewsOverload · 27/11/2023 16:05

It's certainly all done, so just depends if you like what they've done as you are certainly paying for it given it's proximity to Southend. I think the front looks awful, they've ruined whatever character it may have had from the front. The kitchen is overextended and I don't like the steel. The flat roof extension at the back is cheap and may cause problems in the future. The garden is souless and overlooked. Personally I'd buy somewhere in a better area with a bit more charm. It is very Essex!

jesterdourt · 27/11/2023 16:07

Great size but it looks like a developer has renovated it & now charging £££ for it, as it looks expensive compared to others. I prefer more character & individuality personally.
