Would you buy this house?

I am not a stylist person by any means, we are house hunting and I love this house. The location is perfect for us . DH would prefer a project and somewhere with more character. I love the fact we can just move in and it's chain free.

What do you think?This house

For that money I would want more garden and more character

DappledThings · 27/11/2023 16:08

Nah. Not with all those bathrooms.

jesterdourt · 27/11/2023 16:09

location looks amazing and honestly you can paint / decorate and add character.

but you’re paying top dollar to have it done so doesn’t make sense to redecorate.

threecupsofteaminimum · 27/11/2023 16:09

God I'd LOVE it!

Growlybear83 · 27/11/2023 16:11

I can see the appeal of just being able to unpack and not do any work but I do agree with others that it has very little character. Also, there's nothing I loathe more than the enormous square box extensions that people stick on the back of houses nowadays. My last neighbours moved into a lovely 1890s semi with a beautiful Victorian conservatory which they demolished and replaced with a monstrous, featureless box.

Character is may have had………are you looking at the photos? It’s clearly a new house.

A new house that they've stuck some mock Tudor cladding on and a fake Edwardian balcony? If so that's even worse!

SgtJuneAckland · 27/11/2023 16:13

In that area with that budget I'd be looking in old Leigh or Thorpe bay. I agree it's pretty lacking character too. Chalkwell park is also a regular hotspot for gang activity and very recently a man slashed his own throat there in the middle of the day.
I live fairly locally and know the area well professionally

Diyextension · 27/11/2023 16:14

looking at the pictures again the front part of the house ,bay window front door area is probably original but the rest of the place looks newly built. From the ariel view it could have been 2 houses there and they have put in 3 ?

IfAIwasfedMN · 27/11/2023 16:15

It's a new build - you can see they've crammed as many in as they could, right up next to each other. Also the amount of lighbulbs in the kitchen dining area...I'd be worried planes would be coming in to land! I'd be wanting a better rating on a brand new home considering the cost of utilities. Why do developers never do anything to sell in the long term to these new houses? Air source heat pump, solar panels, grass roof, maybe leave a nice old tree rather than razing them all? So many ways developers could keep with the times and what people want these days. I agree the flat roof will likely leak after a few years, especially with shifting while the house settles. I'd also be annoyed the TV has to be right next to the giant window meaning you'd have to draw the curtains in summer.

FrenchandSaunders · 27/11/2023 16:15

It's practically Southend which is a shithole. Surely for that money there must be something else you like.

DappledThings · 27/11/2023 16:16

Why are the images all CGI? Is it not actually built yet?

This needs some work but has more character and the area is better

First one is better

orangegato · 27/11/2023 16:17

It’s beautiful the PPs are so hard to please?! Yikes. Nothing worse than having work done on a house just buy one that suits your needs it’s less stressful (learned hard way).

Usernamesthis · 27/11/2023 16:18

That is my husbands choice @SgtJuneAckland 😊 , it's very close to our current house. It's does have a sea view which we don't have.

Gorgeous, but 1.6m?!

TreesWelliesKnees · 27/11/2023 16:18

It's a busy road - I know it well. Morning traffic starts at 5.30 along that road. I would only buy it if it was triple glazed and I could hear nothing while standing in the front bedrooms.

They are calling it Chalkwell but it looks like it's on the Westcliff side of the road, which is considered less desirable.

Personally I'd be looking up on the Chalkwell estate, near Mount Avenue, or closer to Leigh.

I actually like the house. It's a bit bland but tasteful, and you could put your stamp on it very easily.

SgtJuneAckland · 27/11/2023 16:20

@Usernamesthis 😁 sorry OP I think he's right, you could add your own touches and it would improve the value, and the area is better too

ImNunTheWiser · 27/11/2023 16:21

Nope. I’m with your DH, characterless and minuscule garden. Area too, I’d prefer rural, or like I am now which manages to be rural and on the coast. But that’s some people’s taste so what others think doesn’t matter if it’s what you like.

DappledThings · 27/11/2023 16:21

I'm with your husband. That one is far nicer.

PossumintheHouse · 27/11/2023 16:22

I wouldn’t. It looks way too clean and neutral for my personal tastes. And, glancing at the houses next to it, it reminds me of one of those American streets where all of the houses look virtually the same.

Desecratedcoconut · 27/11/2023 16:22

Well, I think it is really lovely. But given the cost, elevation, proximity to the sea, it's too risky for my hypothetical £1.5million.

Goodornot · 27/11/2023 16:24

Was it designed by androids? It has no soul.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 27/11/2023 16:24

As a house, if its your style then it's nice. It's not mine but I see the appeal. That being said, even if it was my style I wouldn't pay 1.6m for it. If I'm paying that much I want land, not to have neighbours a foot away and a proper gated drive. If you're spending that much money, you should have some form of privacy and this doesn't have that.

berksandbeyond · 27/11/2023 16:25

That is a bland house. I hate it
