We have heating kick in usually around 17.5 degrees and let it get to around 20.5 - those few degrees seem to make a big difference to comfort. Just interested what others keep their heating at?

Depends on what is going on.

I like to adjust the heating manually.
If I am at home , but changing beds or mopping the floor or just back from the gym I am unlikely to have the heating on at all. If we are watching a movie or reading in the evening I may boost the heating up to 22 degrees for a short while.
I don't use any heating overnight as we all have cosy beds.

Our thermostat is on 16 at the moment.
In full winter 18, sometimes 20, but 15/16 overnight.

User18650674 · 22/11/2023 18:45

19 to 21 but off at night between 10 and 6 unless very cold like the cold spell last winter

Wednesday6 · 22/11/2023 18:51

Same as you

User2123 · 22/11/2023 18:52

Never used the thermostat, we just turn the heating on manually for an hour or two if we start to feel cold. In winter it's usually around 14-15 in the daytime and we'll turn it on in the evening until it reaches 16 then it goes off again.

ohtowinthelottery · 22/11/2023 18:55

Thermostat set at 19°C. Heating only comes on for 2 hours in the morning 6.30am - 8.30am. It's then off all day until 4.30pm and stays on until 10pm. I'm usually in the house in the day but if I'm moving around I'm not cold and if I am cold I put another jumper on. We have a log burner but don't light it very often.

caringcarer · 22/11/2023 18:55

18-20.

SiennaMillar · 22/11/2023 18:56

18 overnight (we have to keep it warm for baby), and 21 in the day. I’d turn it off altogether at night if it was just me

Karmatime · 22/11/2023 18:58

Thermostat set to 16, I turn it up to 20 around 5pm for 2 or 3 hours. It hasn’t dropped below 18 so far this year.

Handovertothetedcross · 22/11/2023 18:59

21 degrees and I wear thick tights, thermals, jumpers and slippers always. I really really feel the cold.

BeggyMitchell · 22/11/2023 19:00

20-21. More when it gets really cold.

DRS1970 · 22/11/2023 19:01

I like it 18-19°C, my wife would like it 28°C 🙄

MotorwayDiva · 22/11/2023 19:05

14 switch on for an hour some evenings, but as PP above the house is dry so doesn't feel cold. Also have heated blankets and hot water bottles so doesn't feel cold getting into bed.

Paintmybathroom · 22/11/2023 19:06

Early morning and evening we have it set to get to 17.5, but don't have it on the rest of the time.

It's been 11 degrees here today and I've been wfh with the windows open 😆

witchypaws · 22/11/2023 19:07

18c for an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening, off overnight
I only put it on otherwise if it drops below 15c in the day/evening

Decafflatteplease · 22/11/2023 19:07

All your houses sound so warm! Our house is so old and damp that for example now the heating has been on for 2 hours and it's only just reached 17 in the lounge, it normally is around 14 in the day at the moment.

Winnading · 22/11/2023 19:08

We put it on when we get cold. Not cold right now. I have had it on a few mornings recently. Just until I go to work. When we* put it on, we put it at about 20, and turn off an hour before bed.

  • when I put it on on a morning, I whack it up to 22/23.

Quite surprised that it's this late in the year before heating going on.

mrsbyers · 22/11/2023 19:08

Constant 20c on ground floor circuit but upstairs is switched off - very comfortable at that as new build super insulated

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 22/11/2023 19:08

16 between 10pm - 6am and 18 between 6am - 10pm.

ShowOfHands · 22/11/2023 19:10

Maximum 18. Off overnight.

Houses heated over 20 make me feel sick. My parents loathe houses under 20. Makes family gatherings a challenge.

Pootle40 · 22/11/2023 19:11

TwoBlueFish · 22/11/2023 17:44

18 to 19 usually during the day and 16 overnight

Same

KevinDeBrioche · 22/11/2023 19:11

Never over 18. I can’t bear stuffy air.

rubytubeytubes · 22/11/2023 19:15

18.5 morning and night x2 for a few hours

Pfpppl · 22/11/2023 19:28

Heating is on from 6am ish to 9pm. Thermostat set to 18, although I occasionally change to 19 if I'm feeling cold. There is someone at home every day, but DH and DS can tolerate lower temperatures than me.

In previous years the stat was always around 20. We had a single storey extension which is really well insulated - that seems to have helped downstairs. But I suspect that when the weather gets colder I'll be nudging the stat to 20 again!

ClematisBlue49 · 22/11/2023 19:30

Central heating is on for an hour or two in the evenings only. Thermostat set to 18. I wear layers and use a space heater in my home office if I get cold.

I should probably have it on more, as I suffer from chilblains, but it's a trade off between that and headaches with too much heat. I've recently acquired a dehumidifier but not sure it has made a difference. Relative humidity doesn't seem to go below 60 even though I have windows open during the day.
