We have heating kick in usually around 17.5 degrees and let it get to around 20.5 - those few degrees seem to make a big difference to comfort. Just interested what others keep their heating at?

19 but it's only on 3 hours a day and rarely kicks in unless really cold outside- new build

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/11/2023 22:32

18-19 during the day. Off at night, whatever the weather (and bedroom window open a bit).

smilesup · 22/11/2023 22:35

18.5 max or else everyone starts moaning how hot it is, under 15 I moan!

RenoDakota · 22/11/2023 22:42

21 during the day when I am in.
18 overnight.

KnittedCardi · 22/11/2023 23:01

Between 19 and 20. It comes on in the morning for a couple of hours, we might then boost at lunchtime if it drops to 18. On again from late afternoon to late evening. Never have it on at night, even when it is cold, and we sleep with the windows on the latch unless really windy.

We do these threads every month or so and every time, I think - just because your thermostat is set at a particular number, that doesn’t mean that all, or indeed any, parts of your home will actually be that temperature.

My advice is stop getting hung up on the number. Turn it up if you’re cold and down if you’re hot.

We have a weather monitor with indoor and outdoor temps, and sctually the thermostat is pretty accurate to that. We also have stats on all the rads too, which are set for comfort, so other than uninhabited rooms, which are set low, the rest of the house is pretty level.

23 when I'm not in bed, so between 7am and
midnight. Can't be bothered with being cold.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/11/2023 23:28

Ours is set at 19 downstairs and 18 upstairs. It’s on for 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening, although it has to be freezing for it to come on upstairs. We live in a 5yo house and it’s very well insulated so doesn’t get particularly cold. I’m at home all day and just use a blanket should I feel chilly.

I hate overly hot houses. PIL’s is like a sauna because FIL is ailing and feels the cold. Poor MIL sits sweating in a T shirt. I always leave with a headache when we visit.

Desecratedcoconut · 22/11/2023 23:29

We have it set to 20.5c through the day and 17c overnight, although it rarely kicks in.

Which just goes to prove that the numbers on the thermostat bear little resemblance to the actual temperature.

This.

Our house got super hot for a couple of days and we were worried the system had broken. Turned out the thermostat had been knocked onto the floor and we were now running at 18 at floor level, rather than 18 at mantlepiece height, in the main living room. If the thermostat were in the hall rather than the living room, 18 could well equate to 24 in the warmest rooms.

FWIW we're on 17 during office hours, 18-18.5 morning and evening and effectively off overnight. We used to run around 20 but we made an effort to keep it lower last year and it feels fine now.

mondaytosunday · 23/11/2023 01:16

It's set to 18 and on all the time, in that the boiler kicks in of the temp inside drops below that. I don't have it on in most rooms upstairs ever - it was pretty chilly in my office today! I'll turn on the radiator if it gets too cold.

jellybe · 23/11/2023 01:22

18-19 evenings and mornings then 15 over night. Other than me my family runs warm so I just put on an extra layer 😁

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 23/11/2023 01:40

18.5-20.5 depending on the humidity/dampness/wind chill.

Mirrormeback · 23/11/2023 02:00

Between 18-19 on my thermostat and it changes to the times I've set

I did turn it up to 20 earlier knowing it would go back down a couple of hours later to 19 as per my thermostat setting

It was bloody cold. But that 2 hours on 20 was enough to warm the house up

sashh · 23/11/2023 05:39

12 - 14.

I have heated throws and often end up in short sleeves with just that.

My bills always go up over the summer as I run the AC.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 23/11/2023 06:11

18° during the day, I also light the wood burner if I’m chilly.
15° at night but the temperature doesn’t drop much.

Marmalade71 · 23/11/2023 06:30

I put it on manually if cold - usually at about 16 and then switch it off when it's too warm - about 20 if I'm working in our single skin extension or 19 if I'm in the living room. It's fully off at night. Normal winter morning temp - if not freezing outside - is about 14.
I hate being too hot - have a fan running all night.
