I'd love one of those houses near the Spitalfields Hawksmoor church.

Not sure it is worth £4m, though.

Saschka · 01/10/2023 18:31

Love it, but agree the photographer needs to focus more on the house and less on the current owner’s furniture (which does indeed look drab and uncomfortable).

With some warmer colours and some rugs, that house would look amazing. I love the panelling, and the light and windows.

£4m is what any period house of that size in Spitalfields is going to sell for - it would cost the same if not more in Islington.

It looks similar to Dennis Severs house (in the same area). I can imagine Nigel Slater living in a house like this!
I love it but it would be soooo cold in the winter!

Nigel Slater’s house is absolutely stunning. And much cosier looking!

I’ve followed the owner on instagram for some time. This is an exceptional property and he’s been renovating one in Suffolk too.

My dream location.
Don't have the spare cash at the moment unfortunately.

QueenofTerrasen · 01/10/2023 18:49

You'd have to be mental to pay 4mil for that. It's horrid.

SpidersAreShitheads · 01/10/2023 18:50

I wanted to love it. But I found it really unappealing.

I’m not sure why as generally I love rustic styling and period homes.

The whole place feels like one of those faux period pub chains. It’s not just the furniture because obvs that would be stripped out; it’s just the overall flow and design. And the fittings. There’s nothing at all that makes it look or feel like a home, and the layout is awful.

Also losing a big chunk of the tiny outside space to the “conservatory” seems like a terrible move. Makes it look even more like a pub beer garden 😂😂

Teddleshon · 01/10/2023 18:51

This house has been used for filming on many occasions and I’d be amazed if it gets that price. We used to live in Spitalfields and got completely fed up with the noise and bad behaviour, not least men weeing on our front door.

JustKen · 01/10/2023 18:58

The decor is ugly.

Convenient for my job though. I could have an easy commute.

However I resent how much anywhere to live in London costs. It's beyond ridiculous.

Dymaxion · 01/10/2023 19:06

4 million property in the heart of London and they pay just fractionally more council tax than I do in a HA 3 bed semi up North !

Like some of the stuff though Smile

GenghisCalm · 01/10/2023 17:15

That is just a bleak house full of uncomfortable seating.

Exactly this, plus it’s listed, even structural work will be a challenge.
the agent really didn’t showcase this house as a home.
depressing comes to mind.

DiDonk · 01/10/2023 19:09

I knew someone who lived in one of those houses many years ago, it was completely restored and I'd never seen anything like it.

This was before spitalfields was completely gentrified, but it still seemed impossibly posh and unreal.

Be lovely for a holiday but like a museum if you lived there full time.

stealthninjamum · 01/10/2023 19:13

I like it but for £4 million I wouldn’t want a house that has a toilet off the kitchen or bedrooms on different floors to toilets.

Tinytigertail · 01/10/2023 19:20

It's a beautiful house, full of history in a really vibrant area. Decor can be changed. I'd love to live here!

Sundaefraise · 01/10/2023 19:21

Location might be great, but the house looks like a historical recreation not somewhere you would live.

MartyFunkhouser · 01/10/2023 19:23

Gosh I hate it. That drab cluttered kitchen especially.

Pushkinini · 01/10/2023 19:47

I like the room that looks like a pub. The rest of it...nah.

Nichebitch · 01/10/2023 19:50

It’s absolutely gorgeous, although if I had 4m I wouldn’t live in Spitalfields, many other more civilised places in London

Tilllly · 01/10/2023 19:53

Yuck

It's like a national trust

I agree. I’d hate to live there. So much of it is so grotty.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/10/2023 20:11

It's beautiful 😍

MaggieFS · 01/10/2023 20:13

Basement kitchen and no toilets on the ground floor or first floor.

Photos as if taken for an interior design mag not house sale.

I don't mind it. I don't dislike it. But it feels very staged and even if I did have that much money, I'd be cynical I was paying for 'a look'. I prefer a blank canvas.

Someone will lap it up.

HermioneWeasley · 01/10/2023 20:22

That area is my lottery win fantasy, and those Dutch weaver houses are perfection

Gingerkittykat · 01/10/2023 20:36

It looks like a period museum and not a home.

SabrinaThwaite · 01/10/2023 20:42

I was waiting for the Amish re-enactors to appear.

Looks very impractical for actually living in.

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/10/2023 20:56

It's just too too precious for words. You couldn't live there.
