Anyone out there searching and want to join me before my DH kills me for talking about the topic too much 😔how is everyone doing? We have a viewing on Saturday but we keep getting outbid or a builder buys the property.

I'm in the SW, searching 6 months. How long has everyone else been at it?

You must be feeling pretty excited @Dinkler. I hope it goes through without a hitch. Is it near to where you live now?

mnahmnah · 03/06/2023 13:50

We’ve put a low offer in on a house this morning. We have viewed it three times now. All the other houses don’t compare with the space and potential. It does need some work, which we’re scared of. But we decided it’s worth a chance! It’s been on for months and no offers. Empty - old couple died and it’s their children selling it. The estate agent themself told us to go in even lower than we were thinking! Wish us luck!

lemonyellows · 03/06/2023 14:11

@mnahmnah fingers crossed for you!!!

mnahmnah · 03/06/2023 14:55

Well the people working at the estate agents all seem to be on different pages. Our offer was just rejected and the guy said they won’t accept less than 5k under asking. He spoke to me like our offer was ridiculous. I did tell him that two others there told us to go in that low! They were meant to be open until 3.00 but when i rang back at 2.20 to up our offer it said they were closed. Obviously more interested in the sunshine than sorting out our offer! Will have to wait until Monday now, which is frustrating.

lemonyellows · 03/06/2023 15:54

Grrr that is annoying

Dinkler · 03/06/2023 17:49

@poppym12 Yes over the moon, hopefully all proceeds smoothly now.

@mnahmnah Gosh how annoying!!!

How is everyone doing with their searches?

We’re negotiating on the same house still. They agreed to meet us halfway, at a price we would be happy with, but on the condition that they would not reduce further after the survey. So we’re taking a surveyor for a look today. Not getting a formal survey, no report, but he will look for an hour and give us verbal feedback. Hopefully all good! Especially because our mortgage in principle expires in two days!!! I really, really don’t want to have to find a new one with the new rates etc

Areyootakingthepish · 07/06/2023 09:26

We are still searching but nothing is coming on. Accepted offer nearly 7 weeks ago and worried they will walk soon.

Made an offer on a house that’s lovely (few compromises) that’s under offer, been on for a month when they normally fly off, so hoping they’ll come back to us. They talked up a lot of other offers but clearly they weren’t real otherwise it would have come off the market. Positively manifesting that it will come back to us!

Dinkler · 07/06/2023 10:19

@mnahmnah Good luck, sounds promising.

@Areyootakingthepish Sending house thoughts - hope rightmove delivers for you!! It's gone quiet here, I'm still keeping half an eye on things as although we are offer accepted always wary of putting all eggs in one basket until exchanged. Won't be offering of course but just keeping an eye although got to admit I'm done with house searching for many years!!!

I'm getting fed up. We're viewing 2 later near to where we are now but they're both 'make do' properties. One is a gorgeous garden flat that has been done really well internally but the outside of the building is very shabby. It's a converted Victorian property and the external costs will be split with the upstairs flat so if they can't/won't address the issues there's not much point going for the garden flat.

I didn't set my filters properly on my last search and found soooo many lovely properties that were 20-30k over budget that would be brilliant.

mnahmnah · 07/06/2023 10:54

@poppym12

I think it is good to set the filters over your budget. You never know how much under an offer might be accepted.

Maybe if it's really expensive there would be more room for negotiation but on a 2 bed flat I don't think a vendor would drop 20-30k. Sadly!!

mnahmnah · 07/06/2023 14:25

Well the surveyor on the house we were negotiating on gave us a pretty damning review! So we’re withdrawing. Feeling very sad!

One last chance viewing tonight before our mortgage offer runs out on Friday. But it’s in a village 5 minutes away. Might not sound much, but at the moment our 11 year old can walk to his friends, school, the park. We can walk into the city centre, train station. All our friends. This house would mean driving back and forth for everything.

poppym12 · 07/06/2023 15:18

That's disappointing @mnahmnah. I hope you find something.

mnahmnah · 08/06/2023 11:40

Our offer has been accepted! On the house that’s in a village 5 mins away. So some reservations but it is a lovely village and only 5 mins drive to everything. Now I’m super nervous about the mortgage application all going through

Good to hear @mnahmnah .

We saw an almost perfect place yesterday but it had no parking and no chance of fighting for a space nearby either (I have a disability and rely on my car a lot).

Also viewed one that was way too small but could be lovely. Nice garden too. Realistically though, an office space is important and there wasn't even a second bedroom to utilise.

Getting more and more disheartened and bored with it but I can't stop looking!

It is very disheartening all of it. Keeping fingers crossed for you. We found a few that would have been great but the parking was just a pain in the arse; permit etc or no just street.

Thanks @Dinkler. We're heading south again on Saturday to view a couple and have a second viewing booked for one we saw a couple of weeks ago.

It seems like I must be after the moon on a stick.

Dinkler · 09/06/2023 14:17

@poppym12 Hope all goes well.

We are awaiting our vendor to find somewhere now.

Go and see the house, you’ll always regret it if you don’t. You might be able to get your money back on the survey if it hasn’t been carried out yet

mnahmnah · 10/06/2023 14:00

@Tryingtomoveisdrivingmecrazy

Our mortgage application has already been submitted for that address though. Can you change the address in the middle of an application? Or if the purchase price is different?

Bohemianneatfreak · 10/06/2023 14:05

I’ll join- looking in Exeter area, can’t decide between town or out in the sticks. Need 5 bedrooms and decent garden and the main problem- needs to be somewhere with spaces in local primary for all the kids and in catchment for a good secondary. It’s an impossible feat!!
