Anyone out there searching and want to join me before my DH kills me for talking about the topic too much 😔how is everyone doing? We have a viewing on Saturday but we keep getting outbid or a builder buys the property.

I'm in the SW, searching 6 months. How long has everyone else been at it?

@Areyootakingthepish I know, I really thought this would be the one now. I'm so fed up of this. Have you offered asking? Sorry to hear it was rejected. Nothing worse than waiting especially when we have other stuff going on that's really stressful.

@Dinkler thank you .. it's one of those houses that hardly ever come up . We were going to move next April when our mortgage was paid off and we have an endowment coming out but it's too good to not at least view ..

JustOneMoreSec · 31/05/2023 22:52

Just got an offer for mine today (3rd time the house has been int he market!) so pretty excited!
Going for a second viewing tomorrow on our dream home but we feel that the price is too high for the area, and given the market situation. The couple is splitting up but only one of them is the owner so hoping they will accept a lower offer 🤞🏼 good luck everyone !

We went for a second viewing yesterday. Husband wants to put an offer in today. I've got a couple of reservations, one being no direct sunlight into the living room and the privacy outside. Property next door has 2 windows on the terrace.

I don't know what to do.

Is it a north facing living room? That would put me off. I have lived in a few houses that north/south facing houses and the north facing rooms always feel a bit dark and cold. Is there any way you could add another window?

It's North with a hint of West. The patio outside gets sun but due to the location of the living room and other higgledy piggledy apartments, the living room doesn't get direct sun. Both bedrooms do as they're west facing.

Dream house viewed yesterday and put in an offer this morning. We offered 20k under asking (with the expectation/ hope that we could meet in the middle ish).

Now the waiting game to see... it's a complete relocation of area sort of. I grew up there but have lived in a different county for 10 years so although family are there, it still doesn't feel like "home" anymore as we don't visit often.

Dinkler · 02/06/2023 08:56

Well what a difference a day makes... we finally have offer accepted on a house. And not any old house but a house we love in the exact location we wanted!!!

Yay congrats @Dinkler !

We were asked to up our offer but we held firm, it is very overpriced especially given the market. We feel that our price is fair based on sold values. They keep saying they’ve had an asking price offer but it’s not showing as SSTC!

Brilliant news @Dinkler. Hoping for a smooth transaction for you.

poppym12 · 02/06/2023 17:15

Our offer was rejected too. We based it on similar sold prices in the area but they've told the agent not to ring them again unless the offer is within 10k of asking price.

We liked the place but feel it's overpriced so we'll carry on looking.

Areyootakingthepish · 02/06/2023 19:06

Wise move @poppym12 you don’t want to overpay especially in this market.

there is so much in the news about house prices going down and mortgage products being called but not all sellers are getting realistic!

in a couple of months time they will have wished they had accepted

user1471538283 · 02/06/2023 19:11

I was looking for nearly 2 and a half years because I needed time to decompress, then prices went through the roof and I really wanted a particular style of house in a particular area.

I was outbid on 2. The last one I was outbid on I'm so thankful now because it all needs redoing. My home took me 2 months to sort out the price and 13 weeks to buy. It needs alot of work but I know the work that needs doing!

You will get there!

primoseyellow · 02/06/2023 19:13

Ive been looking in North Devon for just under a year. Cannot find anything I like, I have a reasonable budget and am a cash buyer. Hopefully something will come along soon!

Husband still wants to go for it. I'm not bothered either way so it must not be the right place for me.

Redlarge · 02/06/2023 19:35

Well i lost the dream house. Viewing a distinctly basic and average house tomorrow which ill prob go for as location is ideal but feel sad about it

Don't overpay poppy, and if you don't feel bothered then I think it's the right choice.

OP posts:
poppym12 · 02/06/2023 21:18

I'm sorry to hear that @Redlarge.

Tbf, it is the best one we've seen @Dinkler. Apart from the price, I'm put off by lack of light in there. Probably ok at this time of year but I suffer with SAD so the thought of no direct light in winter troubles me. Plus it's all electric so if there's no light, the heating bills would probably be high.

Dinkler · 02/06/2023 21:43

@poppym12 Yeah I don't like dark houses, we discounted a lovely place on that basis, it just felt so dreary and claustrophobic.

Dinkler · 02/06/2023 21:45

We walked around and down the road on the house we've been accepted on today - scared to call it 'our' house yet haha. Keeping a check on my excitement! In love with the whole area and still can't believe it.
