Have name changed in case I post anything outing etc. Anyone want to join me in this awful limbo? Waiting a week for an offer reply. Anyone else waiting and how long? Brew

A WEEK? That's crazy. Have they said what the delay is?
Took about 2 hours for our offer to be accepted! And we also accepted or declined offers the same day.

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 10:23

@CatOnTheChair They said they have to have more viewings.

A week is a long time to wait! Had the property just gone on the market? If so they may have wanted to do the first weekend of viewings if your offer was under asking price. I would call the agents this afternoon once they have had a chance to follow up on those.
We offered on a Saturday after viewing on the Friday and heard back (they accepted!) on the Monday. The estate agent was very apologetic not to have an answer the same day.

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 10:43

Yes it does seem different to how the other EA’s round here play it.

I have offered the asking price so was expecting - yes, no or counter offer.

Lots of reductions where I am so have to say I’m a little surprised at the blasé method.

We viewed a house late afternoon on Thursday and had our offer accepted (after a bit of negotiating) by 9.30 the following morning and all further viewings cancelled.

Waiting around for a week is ludicrous.

Are you offering a lot under asking? If so I can understand that they might want to hold out for a better offer, but it is not really acceptable to have had no response at all after a week.

MarinatemysoulinSprite · 09/05/2023 11:03

Cross posted with you OP. I see you have offered the asking price.

Are you absolutely sure that your EA has passed on your offer? I can't understand why the vendors would just not respond at all.

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 11:06

@MarinatemysoulinSprite They sent an email to say it had been passed to the vendor. I suppose I have no proof. Have to say I’ve never come across this before so wanted to make a thread here to see if anyone else wanted to join me!

Thanks for this thread! We are waiting to hear if our revised offer was accepted and going a bit mad. Put our offer in on Wednesday evening after second viewing, estate agent doesn’t work Thursdays and told me on Saturday they are waiting to confirm their onward purchase. Really hoping we hear today.

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 11:21

@jellyandscream Good luck. I think they like to keep people waiting don’t they! Although that sounds reasonable. I hope you hear soon.

Our EA has been very good at coming back to us - it’s just we’ve offered a bit under and they’re now negotiating on price with their onward purchase. If it’s accepted we’ll have a short complete chain so that will be good!

Your situation reminded me of another thread from a seller who was leaving an asking price offer on the table for a week while they did more viewings. Almost everyone told them not to as it would annoy the people offering!

jellyandscream · 09/05/2023 11:34

And good luck to you and everyone else too!

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 12:18

Thanks @jellyandscream and you too. 😊

It kind of takes the shine off for me waiting around like this. I think I’m going to ring them today and say the offer stands until Wednesday 5pm.

Are you a first time buyer or do you have something to sell?

We viewed a property on a Thursday at 4pm, offered there and then £10k over asking (we LOVED it). unfortunately as we had to sell ours (photos were already done) we were not proceedable at that time. Fast forward to Tuesday and a FTB buyer had offered, and they accepted! (even though we were proceedable by that time!!)

MrsBlondie · 09/05/2023 12:34

@Pamelaorangejuice Id be ringing the EA daily. Waiting a week is no acceptable. Most offers are accepted or declined within a day - 2 at most

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 12:35

@DancingQueen2019 I can buy the property outright. I’d like to say luckily but due to death of parent but anyway that’s my situation. So I can move as quick or slow as they like and I’ve advised this…🤷‍♀️

I wouldn’t wait a week to hear about an offer, that’s ridiculous. It implies to me that the sellers will be happy to mess you around, in what is often a stressful process

DancingQueen2019 · 09/05/2023 12:42

I dont see why they are keeping you waiting then! x

NetflixAndGin · 09/05/2023 12:46

When I put my offer in (way under asking) I heard back the next day. A week would worry me, especially if youve offered asking!!!

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 12:46

Ok thanks. I mainly just want to post here as I can’t bother anyone in real life any longer 😅 good luck to all waiting 😊 will post back with an update either way.

YukoandHiro · 09/05/2023 12:48

As if they're mucking you about with that. If prices are dropping go back and say it's a one time offer - yes to asking price now or forget it.

YukoandHiro · 09/05/2023 12:48

Oh and yes good to check it has actually been offered as it did turn out with one awful agent we were working with the vendor never heard of our £5k under offer as they were holding out for asking price offers

instantpotnoodle · 09/05/2023 14:43

We had to wait a week - EAs round here tend to do two weekends of viewings on popular houses then best and final.

Pamelaorangejuice · 09/05/2023 14:52

@instantpotnoodle Yes I think that is the strategy of this EA. I don’t mind it’s not how blasé they are, it puts me off.
