What's the double kitchen all about?

DoubleKitchenMan · 12/04/2023 20:23

Name changed because this is clearly identifiable to my friend who I'm puzzling over this with but WTH is going on with the second kitchen???

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/133529630

I know some cultures where spices are heavily used have spice kitchens but they don't kit them out like a whole second kitchen! Do they?

And the description says

The current owners have recently converted the garage to provide a second kitchen which the agents consider could easily be converted for a variety of uses if required. But why did they convert it to a second kitchen? And then move!

Might it be a Kosher kitchen?

theswoot · 12/04/2023 20:25

They could have a food business or it could be used as a studio of some kind?

EVHead · 12/04/2023 20:25

I was going to suggest kosher.

theswoot · 12/04/2023 20:26

Could be extreme allergies in the house? I’m thinking of so many reasons, sorry for spamming your post! 😂

Whatthediddlyfeck · 12/04/2023 20:26

Kosher is my foray thought, but then that wouldn’t be a “recent conversion”, surely if you kept Kosher you’d have it from the start 🤷🏼‍♀️

nurseynursery · 12/04/2023 20:27

I thought a cake maker straight away. Kosher kitchen is plausible I suppose.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 12/04/2023 20:29

You tube chef? Like Barry Lewis

Popetthetreehugger · 12/04/2023 20:29

Maybe grandparents lived there too ? Separate lounge and kitchen?

Worldgonecrazy · 12/04/2023 20:29

Multi generational living? Much easier with two kitchens/two living areas.

Yep, could well be the case.

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 12/04/2023 20:30

My friend converted their garage into a kitchen for her cake business, or could be a kosher kitchen.

WilsonMilson · 12/04/2023 20:31

Granny kitchen?

Food business?

Maybe this was the main kitchen before they extended out the back and made a new kitchen on the extension, but didn’t bother getting rid of the old one.

So many possibilities.

Expensive for the size, but I guess it’s an expensive area.

Crucible · 12/04/2023 20:32

Kosher surely?

RoseAndGeranium · 12/04/2023 20:33

userxx · 12/04/2023 20:30

Yep, could well be the case.

I thought this at first, and looking at the floor plan you could easily turn that side of the ground floor into a granny flat. But there’s only one bathroom in the house. I’d have thought most people would put in an extra bathroom before an extra kitchen.

See, I thought this but the rest of the house really doesn’t seem set up for it

Also 👋 😁

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2023 20:33

I wonder if it's a sort of granny annexe. So they have their own sitting room and kitchen.

TheRookie · 12/04/2023 20:36

On the floor plan there's also a random 2 doored hall connecting the 2 kitchens? The plot thickens....

Kosher seems to be winning as the likely reason.

It definitely wasn’t the original - it’s been done deliberately as a garage conversion.

We came off the market not long ago and will wait it out for another couple of years, but before that we were negotiating on another of that agent’s properties - I almost wish we still were just so I could ask about this I am too nosey

Scottishrock · 12/04/2023 20:40

Could be multigenerational living. By the way, I think it’s more difficult to get a mortgage on a property with 2 kitchens.

WeAreTheHeroes · 12/04/2023 20:41

There's no photo of the second kitchen which is a bit weird as it's been mentioned. I think if it was for a catering business of some sort it would be obvious from photos.

VirginiaQ · 12/04/2023 20:42

I was going to say kosher too but there doesn't seem to be any Jewish items elsewhere in the house eg a menorah.

Having watched too much Selling Sunset however having more than one kitchen seems to be a 'thing' and they tend to call one of them a 'chef's kitchen' which I've always assumed was a kitchen with all the gadgets for entertaining rather than a standard kitchen for everyday use😂😂😂. Maybe something like that and they run a catering business from home.

There is, it’s just the very last pic.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 12/04/2023 20:45

Apologies if this is an insensitive question, but why do you need a separate Kosher kitchen? If you keep Kosher, don't you do it all the time? I know you use separate dishes during Passover, but wouldn't you have to do that anyway, whether you were using the same kitchen or a different one?

Keeping Kosher is one thing, but cleaning for Passover is a whole other thing! The cleaning rules are so stringent that many of us DREAM of having a separate kitchen to just open up and use at Passover.
