Nightmare neighbour and new fence panel!

Northernlass1234 · 23/03/2023 21:23

Background: elderly lady 70s, lives alone, rarely goes out, has two adult sons, one nice, one not - we were previously friendly but had loft extension and neighbour got very upset about lots of things - that was two years ago and i thought things were de-frosting

anyway she texted saying she was repairing fence post but got home from work to find this - see pic.

anything i can do as she clearly did this to wind me up?

You could paint your fence so it all matches and your weathered panels don’t look as shit.

yabu to think a 70yo woman “did this to wind you up” she’s replaced a fence panel ffs. They don’t sell them weathered and old.

OP can’t paint it -as it’s not her fence. Well, she would need express permission from the neighbour to paint it.

The OP hasn't got a fence, it's the neighbour's fence.

Ok. She could paint her side of the fence. It looks terrible and it’s clearly not been treated.

jizzlord · 23/03/2023 21:44

She can't paint the side facing her, it's not her fence.... so 'her' side belongs to the neighbour. @Meandfour

She can’t paint it without permission - there’s no such thing as “her side of the fence” if the fence belongs to the neighbour.

MyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 23/03/2023 21:45

You can’t expect the new fence panel to be the same weathered look as the old fence panel. The new wood will fade in time and blend right in. Not seeing the issue here.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 23/03/2023 21:47

Like the majority of the posters failing to see the issue with this fence panel, sure it needs to weather but that's life.

Sundaefraise · 23/03/2023 21:48

I’ve done this with a fence panel that blew down. It’s how they come, god knows where you would go to find pre-weathered ones as suggested up thread. Better go and check my neighbours don’t now hate me.

carriedout · 23/03/2023 21:49
Confused
Hawkins003 · 23/03/2023 21:50

@Northernlass1234 that's usually how new panels are, then it's either painting so they all match. Plus if she only needed one panel repaired then why would they replace them all ?

Some fences look like that on both sides. And most people (obviously not on mumsnet, but in real life) do each paint 'their' side of the fence rather than build another fence right next to it.
But op obviously doesn't like painting fences, hence pic

SirChenjins · 23/03/2023 21:50

If you don’t like her fence then you need to erect one of your own on your land. She’s just replaced a broken panel with a new one - they don’t come weathered to match pre-existing panels!

YellowDots · 23/03/2023 21:51

Ok. She could paint her side of the fence. It looks terrible and it’s clearly not been treated.

She can't without asking the neighbour as it's not her fence. You don't own the side of the fence facing your garden and she doesn't get on with her neighbour.

Some people don't like the way painted fences look.

WandaWonder · 23/03/2023 21:52

She only lives There just to annoy you, that is her sole purpose in life

Same as the whole street they are there only for you

It looks like fence panel from a non 'let's to do this just to annoy the neighbours' shop I presume?

Thank you for a sane response. Honestly 🙄 it’s like another world sometimes on here.

Yes, people do paint “their” side of the fence, even when it doesn’t belong to them, but they ask the neighbour first. That’s quite normal. Painting it without asking is not normal.

EllieM27 · 23/03/2023 21:58

What on earth have you taken that photo with, a toaster? 😂

If you mean the color it’s just because the wood is new. If you mean anything else no one has a chance of spotting it.

YellowDots · 23/03/2023 21:59

Exactly. My neighbour has painted his side of the fence I own. But he came round first and we talked about it. He doesn't hate me though or think I'm trying to ruin his life by replacing fence panels.

WonderingWanda · 23/03/2023 22:02

Just ask her if she minds you painting / treating your side.

SinisterKnitter · 23/03/2023 22:03

It's impossible to see a problem when your photo is so awful!

ReadersD1gest · 23/03/2023 22:05

Get a grip of yourself, op.

mrsm43s · 23/03/2023 22:11

OMG! What an absolute cow! Replacing some old damaged fencing with some nice new fencing in exactly the same design! How DARE she be responsible and maintain the boundary at her own expense. It absolutely MUST have been done to wind you up!

Northernlass1234 · 23/03/2023 22:14

Ok so wasn’t expecting that much traffic …. Missed out key points- so neighbour asked for access to my garden - with whole long text - about repairing (important word) panel. And magically a new panel has arrived!!!

second, i replaced all my fences to match with others - maybe I’m a more considerate neighbour

thirdly, panel is not only different colour - i accept it may weather in but different design!

i do feel she misled me - her problem i guess

anyway she did say it will weather in so hopefully she’s right! It actually looked better before she replaced it!

OP posts:
ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 23/03/2023 22:16

I don't see the problem. Just paint the fence if the colours the issue???

This 🤣🤣🤣

Furries · 23/03/2023 22:16

I can’t see a problem. Could be because the photo quality is shite!

Am guessing you’ve never replaced fence panels before? That’s how panels look until they weather.

There is no law against painting your side of the fence so everything looks uniform. Decent thing to do is inform your neighbour first (I always do).

Agree with others - I don’t think your neighbour is the nightmare.
