Is this a real horses head?

I know this board likes an unexpected surprise in a house listing… I spotted the deer in the living room - not at all what I would choose to have in my house but I do eat meat so probably don’t have a leg to stand on - but is that the head of a horse? In the dining room?! Is it real? What do you think?

Whoa, I think you are right looking at the other taxidermy. Argh.

PritiPatelsMaker · 31/01/2023 22:27

It does seem as if it is. Just why?

Whitney168 · 31/01/2023 22:28

I vote no, it doesn’t seem to be attached to anything much if you look on the virtual tour, and would surely be heavy?

EmmaEmerald · 31/01/2023 22:28

Taxidermy innit.

DarkNurseries · 31/01/2023 22:29

Well, there’s a deer’s head in one of the other rooms, so it’s likely…?

Johnnysgirl · 31/01/2023 22:30

God, that's terrible

Kerning · 31/01/2023 22:32

Horrid. Some kind of fur thing on the wall near the horses head and I spotted an animal skull somewhere else. Not to mention the deer!

scrivette · 31/01/2023 22:33

I think there is a tank full of stuffed birds in the corner of the first pictures too.

Overgrowngrasslady · 31/01/2023 22:35

God that’s awful and yes it looks real. Either way it’s appalling.

Remagirl · 31/01/2023 22:37

Maybe, but they'll be taking it with them when they move I imagine.

QueenOfHiraeth · 31/01/2023 22:38

There is other white horse stuff around too, like pictures and there's a lot of rosettes as well so maybe it is a much loved ex "pet"

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 31/01/2023 22:39

Dead pet on the wall… 😱

There is what looks like a picture of the sams horse half the way up the stairs

worried4698643 · 31/01/2023 22:40

It's awful decor either way. The website is so un-userfriendly too. I got so frustrated trying to flick through the pictures.

Kerning · 31/01/2023 22:43

Some horse-head looking things on the patio as well, assume they're terracotta...

On a close zoom in on virtual tour, I’ve changed my vote, I think it is. Am surprised estate agent didn’t tell them to put that in storage” (or maybe they did suggest it and we’re ignored.)

BotterMon · 31/01/2023 22:57

Brings a whole new meaning to "room for a pony"

Baconand · 31/01/2023 23:00

I’ll suggest to DH that it’s an option for my beloved pony when she passes on…..NOT!

Yes it probably is real. To be fair it’s probably cheaper than cremation.

😂

Catnary · 31/01/2023 23:31

Oh wow. It’s not so much the head as the amount of neck attached as well! I could imagine getting used to giving it a friendly pat as I passed on my way to the kitchen. It looks quite precarious, I could imagine my 6 year old being repeatedly warned to be careful not to knock it over with balls, bats, karate demonstrations etc, then one day finding him pinned to the floor by Dobbin.

There are a load of fluffy tails on the dining room walls too- fox brushes, hunting souvenirs?

Catnary · 31/01/2023 23:32

Bit disappointed it wasn’t in a bed though!

Whitney168 · 01/02/2023 08:30

It's probably not. I know someone who paid £5k to have their Whippet taxidermied ... (stuffed sounds awful!) many years ago.

Shudder ...

Eastereggsboxedupready · 01/02/2023 08:32

Well you aren't the only one without a leg to stand on op...

Overgrowngrasslady · 01/02/2023 08:40

What an undignified thing thought for any animal. To habe your head cut off, stuffed and sat in the dining room. I really hope it’s not real as it’s horrific if it is.

RabbitHoleOfHell · 01/02/2023 08:50

It looks like one of those (expensive) faux taxidermy pieces that were all the rage with rich faux bohemians back in the day - there was a bit of a craze for taxidermy ( late 1990s??) Aynhoe House, for example, was full of examples of real and fake taxidermy.I seem to remember that the white horse range also came in a unicorn version. Maybe it’s one of those expensive realistic but fake ones that’s been car-booted? Or maybe it is a family pet? 😳 Either way it’s a talking point
