Is this a real horses head?

I know this board likes an unexpected surprise in a house listing… I spotted the deer in the living room - not at all what I would choose to have in my house but I do eat meat so probably don’t have a leg to stand on - but is that the head of a horse? In the dining room?! Is it real? What do you think?

I think it was possibly a much loved pet. It seems to be something some people like doing. They do have other pictures and photos of a white horse around the house. The dead deer doesn’t bother me too much, I have deer skulls in my house but they were not killed for my pleasure (died of natural causes). I personally wouldn’t want a horses head in my home but each to their own 😬

SausageInCider · 01/02/2023 09:04

If you go on the walkthrough feature it looks really real. There’s a photo on the wall behind it if a woman with a white horse that looks practically identical. Lots of fox brushes, 2 antelope heads and a display cabinet of dead birds

Greenfairydust · 01/02/2023 09:06

There are paintings of the same horse on the walls.

So I would say this an ''homage'' to a horse they owned and that their ''hobby' is hunting on horseback.

So taxidermy fans and hunters: not for everyone but I guess to them it makes sense.

'...I do eat meat so probably don’t have a leg to stand on'

I'm more shocked with your self-cannibalism... 😱

Backtorealitynow · 01/02/2023 09:18

I dont think its real...

I can't make my mind up at all. Given the other taxidermy I would say it's possibly real, especially given the other white horse photos etc, but I'm not convinced. It's just too white.

I keep changing my mind between real and fake!

Catnary · 01/02/2023 09:28

It’s just so big! And so weird to have it looming over the dining table like that. I would love to know the back story.

Dfg15 · 01/02/2023 09:32

Might not be real. In Escape to the Chateau they have a wolf and a giraffe that look real, but they’re both completely fake.

TheNoonBell · 01/02/2023 09:33

I can't help myself and have to post a link to one of the funniest taxidermy fail sites ever. I can't not giggle every time I see the terrible attempts.

crappytaxidermy.com/

I wouldn't have any stuffed animals at home though, I prefer them alive (and pampered).

mrstumblet · 01/02/2023 09:34

Look at the side of the cupboard the horse head is on, looks like some of horse skin/hair there too

FriedEggChocolate · 01/02/2023 09:53

Yes I'd say it's real. Anyone else get the chat window pop up with a "live" chat with a staff member? She's going to be really busy and very baffled as to why her chat feature has sudden interest.

pursudebyablackdog · 01/02/2023 10:12

Nah, that doesn't look real; model of their beloved pet. I think the deer is taxidermy, as are the birds in the aquarium. But not the horse.

BananaHamhock · 01/02/2023 10:13

Given the white horse mementos scattered around the house I would guess it was a beloved pet.

Luisa Zissman did this with her own white horse as well, except she had the entire body stuffed and mounted and it now stands tall in her house. www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11112411/amp/Luisa-Zissman-stations-dead-horse-Madrano-living-room-window.html

To each their own.

I think that having the entire horse on display is less creepy than just ita head and neck! Head only rather screams “I couldn’t afford a whole one!”.

BananaHamhock · 01/02/2023 10:18

@Catnary haha that was my thoughts exactly 😂

SPOILER!
I used to work for a company selling horse heads just like the on in the picture...

emmathedilemma · 01/02/2023 11:05

It seems to match the horse pictures that are on some of the walls around the house and there's a deer head and display cabinet of what appear to be birds so I fear it might be.
I'm even more interested in how this house is in council tax band G when my 2 bed flat in Edinburgh which is worth about a third of this house is in F!!

Were they hairy and beardy like this one when you zoom in?

NellyBarney · 01/02/2023 11:18

It looks pretty plastic, you can buy wall decorations like that, see a close up below of what they are like:

Zoom in on the virtual tour - the white one doesn't look anything like that. Hairy round the end of the neck, beardy under the head.

You can also buy ones that don't look plastic though.

They don't have a horse though, only unicorns (and other animals)

ifIwerenotanandroid · 01/02/2023 11:28

I think it's real.

Bit of a tangent, but DH & I have been looking at Lottery houses & there was a strange object in one (see photo). I asked him what he thought it was & his best guess was 'someone put an octopus up their rear end'. So this gorgeous castle is now known in our marital shorthand as 'the arse-octopus one'.
