Pearl Lowe's house

Did anyone see Greyson Perry's new show on C4 last night about the English? He went to interview Pearl Lowe who lives in Frome in one of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen. Gave me serious house envy.

Yes, I follow her on Instagram. It's so beautiful.

Blufelt · 27/01/2023 23:06

It’s a DeVol kitchen. Super expensive but lovely. She probably hired an interior designer too, it’s amazing what difference a professional makes.

WinterDeWinter · 27/01/2023 23:33

I was expecting to like this as I have a secret Maximilist streak but actually it all feels a bit underwhelming. Almost a bit 2005 shabby chic? Not very complex in terms of colour either, feels like a missed opportunity. Sorry to sound so annoying.

It’s located in a beautiful area of Frome with amazing views. I’ve been to the house (before Pearl moved there) and I can confirm, it is rather special.

You can see more of the house here

I feel the same. Love the actual house buy not the interior design.

CoorieInByTheFire · 27/01/2023 23:43

I don’t like it, the kitchen bit reminds me of school. The bright stuff is a bit better, but it’s a bit split personality for me.

ShandaLear · 27/01/2023 23:43

The exterior is stunning. The interior looks like the contents of a charity furniture store in an upmarket country town, which is probably what it is. I like it.

Fizzadora · 27/01/2023 23:43

Rather liked Grayson's opinion of it. Contrived I think he said 😉

Me three. I was underwhelmed, particularly given the thought and money probably gone into it. The exterior is lovely though and I can see the light would be amazing.

IntentionalError · 27/01/2023 23:52

It’s a beautiful building in a lovely location, but to my eyes the interior looks like it has been furnished with a load of old tat from charity shops & clearance sales. And that is not a proper cook’s kitchen.

Dartmoorcheffy · 27/01/2023 23:54

Gorgeous house in a stunning location but the interior is very underwhelming. It's not cosy looking and it isn't what I would find appealing.

SarahAndQuack · 27/01/2023 23:55

I think I agree with @WinterDeWinter - it feels like an opportunity missed. TBF, it obviously makes her really happy which is all that matters, but I think as a house it hasn't really been allowed to come into its own.

There's a really weird unfinished picture wall in the 5th picture that looks like a student house where people with different ideas have all bunged up their favourite cheap posters, and similarly, the cut-out letters saying 'shine' across the window make it look like a nursery/childminder. In principle I like the idea of leaving the dark-dyed pine flooring as is, but together with distressed chairs and a table, it just looks as if no one cares very much.

The sitting room is better, but the animal-print table looks as if she's read that it's clever and quirk to have a random 'bad taste' element, and took that a wee bit too literally. Similar with the dining room. Upstairs is just very chaotic - she can't decide what she's doing or what she likes.

TheMarzipanDildo · 27/01/2023 23:56

I love that

TheFireflies · 27/01/2023 23:59

The house is absolutely beautiful.

Like others, though, I’m not in love with the interiors. I mean, it’s lovely to see something that’s not shiny or grey, but it feels like it’s missing some heart. Like it’s put together by numbers. Still, it’s nicer than plenty of other homes I’ve seen and I could certainly live with it.

saraclara · 27/01/2023 23:59

I only caught the living room bit with the weird fireplace. I thought it was really boringly beige and nothing came together at all.

IheartNiles · 28/01/2023 00:09

Exterior lovely. But she had nowt to do with that.
Interior awful. Like a Kensington Market fake hippy incense stall.
Looks like it would smell…musty.
Love how she’s reinvented herself as an interior designer. Didn’t she used to be a groupie and enjoy foursomes?

MorrisZapp · 28/01/2023 00:12

That article is hilariously bad 😂😂 Pretty house, don't like the interior at all.

paradigmshifts · 28/01/2023 00:14

I see it’s up for hire as Pearl’s place with Unique homestays from £10,595 a week.

LibertyLily · 28/01/2023 00:17

I saw it and kind of agree that internally it was rather underwhelming although certain I did like certain aspects....but I'm not a fan of the lacy curtains and tablecloths she favours/sells on her website.

I follow her on Instagram too because it's an absolutely stunning house and we share a taste in antique taxidermy birds and eclectic interiors generally, but as a maximalist myself there are other accounts I prefer (and actually think our taste is as good if not better than Pearl's, lol!)

Vintagevixen · 28/01/2023 00:17

Agree - beautiful period house in stunning countryside, amazing views.

Inside however...disappointing. Don't like the wallpaper, looks very dated. Don't like the bog standard Persian rugs on the landing. Hate the animal print table. Rest is very meh - the best but is the mustard coloured timorous beasties bee cushion on the sofa because I have the exact same one!

I remember seeing pics of one of her London houses and loving it, so this is a let down in comparison.

LibertyLily · 28/01/2023 00:18

Apologies for the superfluous *certain

Zerrin13 · 28/01/2023 00:37

Lovely house from the outside but inside has a very hungry 30's feel. Like rationing has kept the pantry sparse. It lacks any personality or warmth or originality for me
