Pearl Lowe's house

Did anyone see Greyson Perry's new show on C4 last night about the English? He went to interview Pearl Lowe who lives in Frome in one of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen. Gave me serious house envy.

It's beautiful but the inside is wasted. I like vintage and the shabby look can work well but someone has tried way too hard and missed the mark.

EachandEveryone · 28/01/2023 00:47

lovely house from the outside. It looks like it would smell fusty. Much prefer Boy Georges. Pearl has done well considering she doesn’t seem to have done anything but party. The daughter is another nepo babe. Honest I’m not jealous 😀😀

Orangu · 28/01/2023 00:56

Yikes, not my cup of tea at all.

Yep. The interior is awful.

TheWelshTart · 28/01/2023 01:13

It's all just so bare...and I hate the radiators.

beguilingeyes · 28/01/2023 01:29

I did mean the house itself rather than anything else. The ideal lottery house, with money enough and time
My ultimate dream house is Pete Townshend's old gaff on Richmond Hill. Now that is a view.

I love it! I was flicking through tv channels a couple of years ago and saw it on the uk version of cribs on mtv... I felt very rock'n'roll when I spotted I've got the same fridge freezer as them! 😆

SpringtimeCherries · 28/01/2023 02:13

Not a fan. I don’t think the wallpaper and decor sit together very well.

It’s also trying too hard to be ‘distressed’ but obviously has a load of money spent on it. I find that a bit hard to stomach, it’s almost like saying I haven’t got loads of money, because look I use a simple table cloth and chairs are from an old school. Sorry a bit harsh of me I know! I think it’s trying to say ‘look at the way I’ve re used things’ like the ‘faux’ distressed section on the front door. For me that’s it, it’s trying to push an impression, rather than feeling that she has really loved the items and chosen them for her enjoyment.

Pumpupthejampumpitup · 28/01/2023 08:27

For a maximalist kind of house, it looks visually cold and rather empty…
And I bet it’s actually quite cold too!

Saz12 · 28/01/2023 09:50

Love the exterior.
Like the kitchen - it looks a bit relaxed, a few bumps and scrapes allowed, and thrown together in the pictures (which I like!) but I imagine in reality it feels more like something terrifyingly expensive that someone has Thought Really Hard about.
They probably ripped out the bashed-about wooden one to replace it with faux bashed-about.

onemouseplace · 28/01/2023 10:32

Her front door really needs repainting/ touching up.

ANewDayDawned · 28/01/2023 10:48

The physical house is stunning, absolute dream come true. Don't like the interior at all, not my cup of tea. It's looks like it's been done entirely for external view and not like an individual private home at all.

My favourite house is this www.houseandgarden.co.uk/gallery/ben-pentreath-georgian-country-house

I love his stuff. I think he did Skye McAlpine's London home and I really, really love that.

Love the Ben Pentreath house but Pearl Lowe's looks kind of dusty and fusty!

SpringtimeCherries · 28/01/2023 13:52

I love the Ben Pentreath house - that gorgeous oval window!

It definitely hangs together more, lovely colours. Piles of books and magazines very staged but like the mantelpiece dogs, reminds me a bit more of my grandmother’s house.

SpringtimeCherries · 28/01/2023 13:53

Anymore gorgeous interiors anyone?

I’m dreaming of the day that I can afford to do up my own interior…

SD25 · 28/01/2023 14:13

Inside looks cold and confused. Never seen so many uncomfortable looking chairs and pieces of furniture. Ah rich people and their money...

I was expecting to like this as I have a secret Maximilist streak but actually it all feels a bit underwhelming. Almost a bit 2005 shabby chic? Not very complex in terms of colour either, feels like a missed opportunity. Sorry to sound so annoying.

This

CharlotteStreetW1 · 28/01/2023 14:47

Beautiful building but some of the colour choices are just nasty. Also worrying amount of trip hazard rugs but that might just he my age 😂

I like that one more than the other two. The interior of Pearl Lowe's house lacks warmth.

NormalForNuneaton · 28/01/2023 15:04

There are some lovely individual bits in the house but all together it just looks too much, it looks as if it would be dusty and smell musty.

You almost expect to see Hiss Havisham sitting in a corner.

Minimalme · 28/01/2023 15:53

It's too cluttered for me - a funk tonne of chintz with the occasional zebra.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 28/01/2023 17:40

Glad to see I’m not the only one who was really disappointed. An unlimited budget and that’s the best she could do.

It’s so naff and try hard but misses the mark. The black floral wallpaper is really awful and the print is cheap looking with the sheen and it was done to death by the high street shops about 10 years ago.

You can tell it’s mostly been chosen for her or gifted. The mish mash can work so well but this is a flop.

The building and location though are incredible. And the garden is probably amazing too.

Lampzade · 28/01/2023 17:49

IntentionalError · 27/01/2023 23:52

It’s a beautiful building in a lovely location, but to my eyes the interior looks like it has been furnished with a load of old tat from charity shops & clearance sales. And that is not a proper cook’s kitchen.

I agree

LastOfTheChristmasWine · 28/01/2023 18:04

The exterior is gorgeous, but if I bought it I'd be redecorating internally pronto - it's just not to my taste.
