Pearl Lowe's house

Did anyone see Greyson Perry's new show on C4 last night about the English? He went to interview Pearl Lowe who lives in Frome in one of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen. Gave me serious house envy.

It’s a bit Babington House circa 2003 as is Pearl herself.

I like the maximalist look and lots of jumble but it always works best when it develops organically rather than via an interior designer.

Great house and location. I also wonder whether they have decluttered for the photos and actually it’s the sort of house that looks better with a bit more clutter. In the pics it’s neither one thing nor another.

I think the interior is staged to be a showcase of what she does as a designer, rather than a genuine home.

If you look at her website, some the pieces you see in the feature are listed for sale.

Her brand is boho/arty/vintage so of course the interior is going to reflect that.

I personally like that style so I think it looks fine but as I said it doesn't look ''lived in'' because it has been staged for pictures/marketing purposes.

I love most of it.

Does anyone have an idea what paint colour her front door is?

@EyebrowChallenge hit the nail on the head for me regarding maximalism working best when it develops organically.

I can't claim to have the stunning exterior of PL's place, but our stuff has been collected over many years and was bought because we love it (who was it that said if you buy pieces you love, they should all work together?) and imho it looks more naturally evolved than her home.

Otoh, Ben Pentreath is one of my favourite designers and I adore his house inside and out!

I feel the same as many of you. The interior doesn't go with the exterior. Maybe that's what she's going for. I hate the kitchen. Bloody grey and institutional, not inviting. The whole thing feels very contrived. It's not really a home though is it if it's available to rent for holidays?

As for the interior designer's place, what's with the corridor lined with trip hazard magazine piles?!

This shade from Auro Natural Paints seems similar: Pacific Ocean

Not for me. She 'giggles' that it looks warm and cosy but I don't think it does. Looks draughty to me. Not my taste.

The interior is painting by numbers, and not very well at that. No coving, pictures too small for walls, furniture a bit too distressed, mismatched patterns too stylishly mismatched, curtains too whimsical etc. I don’t see a personal sense of style. It’s a facsimile of someone else’s aesthetic, imo.

Those views are gorgeous though!

I’ve never understood the Pearl Lowe thing, she seems to be fawned over but not sure why. The house exterior is stunning but the inside looks contrived and trying too hard to be “witty” and unique. Underwhelming and and a bit grubby looking. Much prefer a classic, slightly faded but elegant country house style. Not that.
