OMAZE house

So, I'm thinking of entering this competion. Clearly as much chance of winning as me getting an Olympic gold medal, but I keep reading that these 'amazing' houses have issues. Eg one has been massively flooded and another is so close to the cliff edge that it might be uninsurable and when it falls the owners will have a massive clear up bill. The current one is in Finsbury Park and I've even been sad enough to streetview it. Can't see any obvious issues, so why is it an OMAZE house? Please enlighten me!

They say they contact you by phone and email.

When I see these, I imagine that someone who can't sell their flash house for whatever reason approaches Omaze, agrees a price, and agrees to give some unspecified (small) amount to charity when the house is 'won'. Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

House is great - a few things that would bother me e.g the unfenced flat balcony and spiral staircase in the 1st floor bedroom - wouldnt work for toddler DD. The school at the end of the street might be annoying. But I would sell it off cheap and buy a similar property as its already grossly overpriced.

New omaze house in cornwall, right on the edge of a seabed

My DH grew up in a beautiful house by the sea (where MIL still lives) he has always been terrified of tsunamis.

That one is a no from me. Too close to the water and I would worry about cliff erosion.

How interesting - I still to this day have frequent nightmares about them and water after growing up with a bedroom that faced the sea.

@Seasonofthewitch83 i agree. The house wont be there in 10 years time. Doubt you could insure it either.

Surely it wouldn't have been built there if that was the case... It doesn't look very old? Not all areas are at risk of fast erosion I assume?

It isn't getting a direct battering form the sea. It's inland on the river. Its a lovely house but I'm winning it so there is no point entering.

No, I'm winning it!!! 😂

I've loved that setting for a house since first visiting Fowey over 20 years ago. Coastal erosion won't be an issue. There was a smaller bungalow on the site until quite recently. Access out might be an issue in winter as the road is steep and narrow, but they managed to get everything in to build it, so can't be that bad.

To get to bedroom 4 you have to go through the ensuite for bedroom 3? And where do the stairs in bedroom 4 go exactly?

Id love a full tour of this house. I can’t work it out at all.

For me now, the only thing is it doesnt seem very practical for small children and I dont think I would ever fully relax imagining them constantly falling into the water!

Plus I am pretty sure all the locals would HATE you.

I think bedroom 4 go is accessed by those stairs - coming up from between bedroom 5 and the sung - Bedroom 3 ensuite is by the door down the little corridor bit.
The way they've drawn it thought it looks as though Bedroom 3 has a window into the ensuite though! 😂Also the bedroom 4 ensuite seems to have 2 sinks, a bath and shower - but no toilet?! The main bedroom ensuite looks like it has no toilet too

I don't like the new cornwall one at all, it looks like a multi-story carpark, and I'm not good with edges. I'be terrified of falling off into the river. If I won it I'm afraid it would be on the market straight away.

I love the London one though, I probably would sell it, because with that money I could sort out the kids with starter homes, and still have some fun money for me, but it would be a wrench.

This was the original house in Cornwall. So much nicer than the modernised version

I would have been more inclined to buy a ticket for the original house, rather than the modern monstrosity.

Oh the original house was lovely! They could have just tweaked the interior. The new one is awful agree with whoever says it looks like a multi storey car park! I love modern architecture usually but this one is badly done. And the floorplans/layout are baffling.

I’d love the Cornwall house!

Does anyone know if you’d likely to get the £7k a month rent from the London house? If I won I’d rent it out and use the money to pay another mortgage.

look at us all planning our futures in the omaze house.
surely with everyone on here there must be someone who works for them who know exactly how this works and why?

Oh yes the older house was much more my type. As much as I love Cornwall and the views are STUNNING, I would be too uneasy with all those drops into the water. I mean, could you even have a dog? It doesn't look very secure in some parts.....

Still holding out for the London house.....

Report

Probablymagrat · 20/02/2023 16:19

I certainly couldn't have my older dog, she is getting on and her sight is a bit dodgy. Also the yonger dog has never swum, so he's not a great prospect either.

I'm sure it can't be as it appears, but it looks as if you pushed your chair back too far on the patio, you'd be a goner 😨

I stayed in an Airbnb right across the river from the new Cornwall house a while back. My SIL was obsessed with that house; we'd look over and speculate about who lived there*. As soon as I saw it was the next Omaze house I was messaging her to let her know!

(*An architect, who is also Batman. That was our eventual conclusion.)

The new house is right next to a car ferry (ok just a small one) which runs all day every day.
And everyone using the busy slipway opposite gets a right gander in your bedroom windows from dawn till dusk 😁
But I do prefer it to the old one, which is good because I'm going to win it, sorry @WednesdaysPlaits you've been misinformed 🙂
