OMAZE house

So, I'm thinking of entering this competion. Clearly as much chance of winning as me getting an Olympic gold medal, but I keep reading that these 'amazing' houses have issues. Eg one has been massively flooded and another is so close to the cliff edge that it might be uninsurable and when it falls the owners will have a massive clear up bill. The current one is in Finsbury Park and I've even been sad enough to streetview it. Can't see any obvious issues, so why is it an OMAZE house? Please enlighten me!

My preoccupation with whole thing is an over-reaction frankly as I’m never going to win one of their houses 😂

Flavabobble · 08/01/2023 20:09

It matters because you are paying £10 to enter a competition to win a £3mil house except it’s not worth £3mil probably closer to £2m.
It really doesn't though does it? If you've paid £10, complaining about a million either way is a bit 'my diamond shoes are pinching'.

I'm sticking to my premium bonds on account of not wanting the publicity if I won.

Don't forget all furniture comes with the house. That's got to be worth a lot

What we really need is a past winner to come onto MN with an AMA thread

That would be a great idea!

avamiah · 09/01/2023 06:04

I used to think this was a scam to be honest as it seemed unrealistic that you could win a house and a house that is worth over 3 million?

avamiah · 09/01/2023 06:29

But it can’t be a scam as it’s advertised everywhere .

nether · 09/01/2023 10:16

It's not a scam - people really do win all that stuff

I played once when a charity that matters to me was the charitable beneficiary

The only way that it's "too good to be true" is that you get no chance to check if there's anything weird about the house or its immediate environment - so here it doesn't say that it's v close to a school or anything about flood risk (mentioned above) or any of the other factors about location that matter in a city (it's right be green space - is that a lovely asset or the place where local dealers hang out?)

Also, they appear to be using the most eye-catching valuation, possibly that of the original marketing, but which has failed to sell at that level for whatever reason. But if you wanted to live near Finsbury Park, this could indeed be a dream come true

Thanks! I wonder what happens if they buy a house and can't sell enough tickets.

Someone wins a house, other people win the other prizes, the charity receives a guaranteed minimum donation and Omaze make a loss.

Premium bonds are a government run investment. They are very safe. You can buy them in blocks of £25. Each bond is £1 and is entered into a draw each month. There are two top prizes of £1 million and various other prizes after that. You can get your money back out at any time. Unlike a lottery you don’t lose your money.

Sandrine1982 · 17/01/2023 21:27

Can you not stay anonymous when you win?

According to their rules, yes, you can.

Sounds like a worthy winner. Good for him.

Did he win a lottery or was he chosen?

Fingerlimes · 21/01/2023 17:45

After reading this thread I entered the London house competition but seem to have lost my entry number. I’ve checked my emails… can’t find it. Where is it? What have I done? 🙃

tanstaafl · 21/01/2023 20:32

@Fingerlimes
log into your account on the omaze website.
you can view your entry there.

SD25 · 22/01/2023 14:40

Read the comments on the Omaze ad and I feel like most of the UK population has now seen it multiple times. Must be spending a fortune on ads!

Fingerlimes · 22/01/2023 18:24

@tanstaafl
Thank you for this helpful suggestion.

annab143 · 02/02/2023 12:24

How have you managed to find it on Google maps? Where exactly is it? Also want to have a look :)

Bouledeneige · 02/02/2023 22:49

Look upthread someone posted the details - and location. I think in Rightmove.

annab143 · 03/02/2023 07:06

Yeah found it now, thanks

EachandEveryone · 04/02/2023 18:28

It’s a great prize. I wouldn’t be fussed about the others but as I rent in North London this would be a dream come true and I can’t see how it would be worth much less than what they say. The only thing that worries me is that I would miss it if I did win they don’t make it easy to check your tickets.

Triflenot · 05/02/2023 00:02

Don’t they just notify you?
