And if so what?

OP posts:
DenholmElliot1 · 17/10/2022 11:50

No. It's not the done thing.

Just leave the place reasonably clean with the documentation necessary for the appliances etc etc all in one folder.

middleofthelittle · 17/10/2022 11:54

Yes left bottle Prosecco in the fridge with two plastic glasses and a card.
A list of all the paints on the walls with the tins in the shed labelled as she mentioned at viewing she liked the colours and it would suit her furniture. They waited months for us to complete on a probate property so felt right to do.

Oh and Loo roll! Which I have previously moved and not been left any.

DismantledKing · 17/10/2022 12:03

I left a bottle of wine

Colderthanever · 17/10/2022 12:05

Yes absolutely and they for us, a bottle of Prosecco and a card.

and it is the fine thing.

GingerbreadPanda · 17/10/2022 12:09

If you leave wine make sure it doesn't need a bottle opener, I appreciated the thought but still frustrated about having to unpack before we could enjoy it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 17/10/2022 12:13

I have always left wine and flowers and list of useful info such as bin days, window cleaner etc. I think it's a nice thing to do.

TugboatAnnie · 17/10/2022 12:14

Yes, welcome to your new home card, colour coded keys, labelled paint, most recent community mags, fuses, instruction manuals and bottle of wine or box of chocs.

SunshineClouds1 · 17/10/2022 12:16

I was left a card, flowers and Prosecco!

Thought it was a lovely touch

LoopyGremlin · 17/10/2022 12:17

Last time I moved I left a card and bottle of Prosecco along with a list of instructions and what days the bin was collected etc that I thought would be useful.

In my new house was a bottle of wine and a cake from M&S.

I would say it is the done thing just as a wee welcome, especially when someone has just paid you hundreds of thousands of pounds!

Bobshhh · 17/10/2022 12:17

Yes a card and a plant as I didn't know if they drank.

TootMootZoot · 17/10/2022 12:21

I just leave it nice and clean with all the paperwork needed. I've not had a gift left for me but have had houses left beautifully clean.
I think the last house I bought had been professionally clean as it was absolutely spotless. It made me forgive them for leaving some large plastic toys behind the shed. 😅

maximist · 17/10/2022 12:27

I left a card, flowers and a bottle of prosecco for buy last buyers, who were absolutely lovely (as well as lots of instructions, take away menus etc). I had a card and a tin of Quality Street waiting for me here.

My previous sale I didn't leave anything as the buyer was a nightmare.

LT2 · 17/10/2022 12:40

We've never sold but when we moves into our first and only home we were left prosecco, 2 glasses and a card. I would do the same if we ever sell.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/10/2022 12:51

I've never had anything left for me except spiders and filth, but we'll leave the book about the village and an aerial photo alongside the usual "how to work the house" information.

Goldmember · 17/10/2022 12:54

Yes, a bottle of prosecco, some chocolates and dog treats (her dogs were her babies). Along with a welcome letter with info of local amenities.

We didn't get anything but stress off our sellers.

Startuplife · 17/10/2022 12:57

Ours left us a plant and a card. To be honest I’d rather they’d have been out on time and not left a load of junk in the house! I could have bought myself a plant with the money I’d saved on the removal men not having to wait around for 2 hours while they finished packing.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 17/10/2022 13:03

I was thinking I would do, but they were absolute arseholes at the end, so they’re lucky I cleaned the place…

Jericha · 17/10/2022 13:43

I left wine. We were given a card and the time before that a bottle of wine and a card.

whoruntheworldgirls · 17/10/2022 13:45

Card, bottle of fizz and an info sheet

astoundedgoat · 17/10/2022 13:46

We've never sold, but when we bought this house the sellers left us a bottle of fizz and 2 glasses and we were really touched by it. First home etc. I though it was very sweet.

beguilingeyes · 17/10/2022 13:47

We left a bottle of prosecco and a card. My husband left a bunch of tiny plastic ducks in places where they would still be finding them months later. Our buyers were lovely people.

maslinpan · 17/10/2022 13:47

I was going to but they messed me around so much that my solicitor and estate agent got the flowers instead.

NCFT0922 · 17/10/2022 13:47

It is absolutely the done thing.

we left Prosecco, card & flowers with a few local takeaway menus for our buyers and we were left Prosecco & chocolates.

We always pop a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge and leave local takeaway menus for new tenants in our rentals too.

berksandbeyond · 17/10/2022 13:48

Yep, booze, plastic champagne flutes, and a card, along with a letter with bin dates etc, all the spare keys and some local bus timetables.

Our sellers left us a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge and a card.

SenecaFallsRedux · 17/10/2022 13:54

No. It's not a thing in the US where I live. We leave all the owners' manuals, a list of service people, etc., but not a gift. The realtor representing the buyer usually does that.

We did get left a cat once by a seller. That was interesting.
