And if so what?

Yes! We left a bottle of Prosecco and a note with all relevant details (ie to lock the back door, you have to jig the key about a bit etc) The people before us did that and it was very appreciated!

ZimZamZoom · 20/10/2022 14:32

We left our buyers a 4-pack of toilet roll 😅and all the keys, very clearly labelled. As well as a nice note outlining bin days and other useful info.

ZimZamZoom · 20/10/2022 14:32

Our sellers left us a bottle of prosecco and a card.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/10/2022 15:19

I sent a big bouquet to my landlady who sold me the house.

Namechangedone · 20/10/2022 15:22

Our sellers left a card and some wine which was nice but the house was really dirty. I would have much preferred if if they had soaked the grill tray and wiped down the surfaces!

LozMarieFielder · 21/10/2022 07:42

Yes. It was moving into rented so everyone else could move in.

NotLovingWFH · 21/10/2022 07:45

We did 20 years ago when we last moved. House was spotless and we left a folder of useful numbers/leaflets, bottle of wine, flowers and a box of chocs.
Nothing for us in our new house though.

It depends what sort of mood you are in and how you feel about the buyers.

I left mine a tray with kettle, mugs, tea, coffee, bixcuits

Matching tins of paint, labelled. Sets of keys for windows, doors, shed, gate, stopcock. Burglar alarm code. Instructions. Starting set of cleaning stuff (new). Clean bins. Key to wallsafe. Loo rolls. Spare lightbulbs.

New front door lock in packaging, identical to existing so it would swap straight in (it was a bit special)

The woman arrived while I was hoovering round where furniture has been and I asked if she wanted the hoover (had already equipped and moved into the new house and removal van had emptied it the day before).

You will feel better if you leave it nice.

And a year later they found cash and jewelry in the wallsafe and posted it to me.

RidingMyBike · 21/10/2022 10:56

Just leave it clean and with instructions for things like the boiler, what day bins are emptied, location of water stopcock, meters if not obvious etc. If you know they're not moving locally, then details for nearest shop, takeaway etc also very helpful.

When we completed on ours the vendor was four hours late moving out, left the place absolutely filthy and a large number of his possessions behind.

Heartofglass12345 · 21/10/2022 11:11

This must be a middle class thing surely Grin
We moved into a new house and they left a few tins of food in the cupboard but I think that was an accident. We never even thought to leave anything and never had anything left to us when we moved again, and my husband never did when he sold his house either

ChristmasJumpers · 21/10/2022 11:13

We were left a card and bottle of prosecco

Whaet · 21/10/2022 14:16

I always leave wine, flowers, chocolates and a card to say welcome.

Also labelled keys, manuals, info abpit bin day and neighbours.

The one time I didn't was when we had a nightmare buyer, she'd demanded money off last minute. I did clean the place thoroughly but that was it!

TheNoodlesIncident · 21/10/2022 14:19

I also left a card, prosecco and flowers. Also information list, takeaway menus, all the light bulbs, both loos had brand new rolls of loo paper and house was spotless. (I accidentally had a parcel go to the house and she let me know, when I went to her house - not the one I'd sold her - she thanked me for the flowers and said they'd lasted ages, she was a lovely young woman and I hope it's turned out OK for her.)

When we bought our current house, sellers left nothing beyond some cobwebs and lots of junk in the shed and garden. But they had to sell at £1k less than they paid, so maybe thought they had done enough.

I'd always leave something nice for decent buyers, wouldn't for problematic ones. Would clean regardless.

Gronkle · 21/10/2022 14:27

Bottle of wine and a card.

Gumbal · 21/10/2022 14:32

Just a card and info about bins etc.

RoachTheHorse · 21/10/2022 14:38

Yes. A pack of biscuit, a bottle of bubbles, and a new home card.

The people we bought from left a card, bubbles for us, and sweets for the kids.

ChicCroissant · 21/10/2022 14:39

Card and a bottle for the new owners . The last place we bought we were already in it renting it, we did get a welcome package from the Letting Agents when we moved in along with flowers from friends.
