How do you cope with the stress of moving house?

We're on a tight chain. If we don't exchange and complete within the next 2.5 weeks we'll lose our buyer as their mortgage lender won't give any more extensions to their offer (there have been endless complex delays with the paper work and we lost our onward purchAse so it's all take months)
It's touch and go whether or not we'll get moved or the whole thing will collapse.
I haven't actually slept for NIGHTS now. I'm exhausted and totally wired. I'm spending all my days on endless phone calls feeling frustrated and my work is suffering too.
We have two kids too so we still have to get them to school etc through all this. Honestly feel like I can't cope at all!!

Apparently my buyers solicitors will hopefully get the purchase report to my buyers by this weekend. Well, that'll be nice...they've had the information for over 3 weeks. And some of it for 6 weeks now.

I'm still not holding my breath for any news in the near future.

Trying to keep my cool. On the good side my solicitor and EA are very good and proactive.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/10/2022 12:32

I cracked this morning and had a good weep on my lovely husband.

And then packed a box of baking trays.

Reallybadidea · 19/10/2022 16:45

Our buyers have now thrown a hissy fit over the change in completion date (that our sellers demanded) and are refusing to give authority to exchange 😭

I feel like we're just stuck in the middle between two squabbling children trying to be the grownups. Husband is away, daughter is having a terrible time at university and I'm just here on my own trying to hold it together. I'd taken a day's annual leave tomorrow but I'm thinking of going in just to keep myself occupied.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/10/2022 17:45

Reallybadidea That sounds utterly horrible. And why is it your role to sort it out? The squabblers should have to do it and tell you when they've stopped fighting.
I hope they see sense very soon indeed.

Reallybadidea · 19/10/2022 18:31

Good news! Apparently our buyers are transferring their deposit to the solicitor and we should be able to exchange tomorrow or Friday at the latest depending on when it comes through. I'm relieved but won't really believe it until we have the keys!

How's everyone else getting on? Do you feel better for a good cry @FuzzyPuffling ?
Sorry to hear about your uti @YukoandHiro - hope you've managed to get treatment for it

mistletoe1 · 19/10/2022 18:42

Great news @Reallybadidea !

We’ve given authority to exchange so hopefully this thing is actually happening! Agreed completion is the 28th. Almost can’t believe it.

Got my fingers crossed for everyone else xx

friedbrainrightnow · 19/10/2022 18:47

We got to <2 weeks to go last year and it fell through!

It really is the most stressful thing you can do and it really really hit me hard.

I hope it works out OP!

Reallybadidea · 19/10/2022 18:59

That's great @mistletoe1 !

Did it work out in the end @friedbrainrightnow ? Why did it fall through?

FuzzyPuffling · 19/10/2022 19:07

Hurrah for reallybadidea and mistletoe. I'm glad things are moving forwards. It gives me hope!

Not sure I feel better. The house I'm in now was supposed to be a forever home - and doesn't everyone want to live in Cornwall? I'm always being told how lucky I am. But although I love the house, I (and DH) hate the village. We're so disappointed and I feel as though I have failed. Hoping the next move (to a smaller, less lovely, but good bones) house is the right one. It's close to family and that's good.

YukoandHiro · 19/10/2022 22:54

Bad news here - our mortgage was supposed to transfer funds today but didn't and now they're raising late questions about my contract! Our broker is furious as she has all the paperwork saying the offer has been made - we were just waiting for release.
I'm feeling very despondent this evening.

YukoandHiro · 19/10/2022 22:55

What happened in the end @friedbrainrightnow ? Did you move eventually?

In this market we're going to struggle to find a buyer at all.

YukoandHiro · 19/10/2022 22:56

@mistletoe1 Really hope you make it. With every day that passes moving on 28th seems less likely for us. I'm exhausted

Reallybadidea · 20/10/2022 07:50

Can't believe that you've come across more problems @YukoandHiro . Are they questioning your purchase contract or something else? Could you go into rented for a few weeks to keep your buyer?

mistletoe1 · 20/10/2022 11:40

A few weeks ago when everything was looking uncertain we provisionally booked an Airbnb for the first week of November and had quotes for putting our stuff into storage so we could get out for our buyer. Might be worth looking into @YukoandHiro ? This was all conditional on getting absolute reassurance from our vendors that it was going ahead and that they just needed a few weeks wriggle room.

My daughter did this....and three months later she and her family are flitting from Airbnb to Airbnb with no end in sight. It's awful for them and I wish their fibbing buyers/ dreadful buyers solicitors nothing but a large rocket up their tardy arses.

Walkermiss · 20/10/2022 12:00

18 weeks in and exchange date came and went (should have been last Friday). I've been chasing all week for a new date but get fobbed off with "we're chasing and will let you know". We have a completion date pencilled in for end of October which was agreed by all in the chain, but quite frankly don't believe this will happen. So frustrated that no-one can give me an answer as to what the delay is. Was told 'solicitor was pressed so didn't get time then funds weren't drawn down in time. I don't know what to believe now. We've made it clear that simultaneous exchange/completion is not acceptable. If we don't get answers by tomorrow we're going to reconsider whether we should pull out as I can't go on week after week not knowing! This is torture!

Reallybadidea · 20/10/2022 12:02

Good news didn't last long for us - we woke up to find that a) our solicitor has unexpectedly taken annual leave (fortunately she has arranged cover, but took an hour to find this out) and b) our sellers have said they won't now exchange until tomorrow. Their agent is in the dark and we have a nasty feeling they're going to pull out. I'm so angry and stressed and upset, I don't know what to do with myself.

wibblewobbleball · 20/10/2022 12:05

In terms of coping with the stress we divide the stress! So one does all dealings with solicitors, estate agents, mortgage advisor etc. The other deals with all practical stuff - removals company, leading on packing the house, where will the kids be on the day etc. Then we divide up our utilities too so one does final bills/establishment of utility at new property with water/electric/council tax and the other sky/BT/other crap.

Walkermiss · 20/10/2022 12:08

Reallybadidea - I feel your pain. I've just spoken to our EA - they have no idea what's going on either. So that's my EA and Solicitor who are totally in the dark. We're paying thousands for their services and have little choice but to sit and wait or pull out. Hoping we hear some positive news soon.

naomi81 · 20/10/2022 12:11

Just going through a similar process, ended up selling ours and moving into the local caravan park. So that's abit of stress gone but now waiting for our new build to be finished, windows only just gone in and our mortgage offer runs out 20th November, so sat in this bloody caravan worrying if we can complete on the new build. Never been so stressed in all my life, I am not good with stress 😬 now just started laughing as fed up of crying.

Reallybadidea · 20/10/2022 12:12

It's awful isn't it? I've got terrible stomach pains that came on a couple of hours ago, I'm sure it's the stress 😬

We do this too.
I'm legal stuff- solicitors, EA etc
DH is removals, utilities and in charge of the Box Packing Spreadsheet of Joy.
We both do some physical packing of stuff.

mistletoe1 · 20/10/2022 16:23

Going into temp accommodation is not for everyone but it depends how desperate you are to sell.

YukoandHiro · 20/10/2022 19:33

Sorry to hear that @naomi81 - I've heard of a few stories of people losing their deposits through this, because offer ran out before build is completed and then they couldn't get a new mortgage due to the economic climate.
Really really hope it works out for you.

Sorry to hear that @Reallybadidea - we are still waiting on our mortgage company to release funds. Our broker has been chasing them all day but they haven't been taking her calls.
With one week to go it's so close but yet so far!!!
