Social Housing Ranking confusing

Livinglife86 · 03/09/2022 22:15

Thank you for reading my post. Please could anyone explain what the council ranking numbers mean?

Example: 1-5, 6-10 & 11-20

I called the council and enquired however the operator said she didn't understand the ranking system either ☹️

I am currently in Band B the property I bid upon placed me at 11-20. I asked my Dad what this meant and was told "I don't have hope in hell..." however he admitted he had no idea how the ranking system worked.

Do I just wait for the bid to end then enquire again? I won't deny I feel a little dismayed as it was a lovely property and a new build in one of the nicest areas so it proved very popular very quickly 😣

Okay thank you. So they have sent in all the information to the housing today. And then a viewing will be booked. Could there be people in-front of me? Or does it mean it’s mine if I accept the viewings

stomachameleon · 10/01/2024 18:08

@Hello638105 that's really good news :) give it some thought.

Hello846268 · 10/01/2024 18:10

i am so greatful and happy. But all of my support is 45 minutes plus and really scares me. Im going to view on Friday and will see how it goes!!

Lilsmae · 17/01/2024 10:08

Hi! Can I ask how do you view your ranking? I keep seeing others are able to see where they are on the list for each property, so they know if they are getting close or know they won’t get that particular property as they are far down in the queue?
All I can view is how many people have applied for a particular property and not where I am in the queue 😕. I can’t find anything about my “ranking”.
I’ve attached a screenshot with the only information visible to me, if anyone has any idea?
Ive only been on the register a few months on band c, so I know it won’t be anytime soon. But would be nice to see where I am in the queue even if it’s right at the back!😅xx

@Lilsmae when you press print is there any other information? If you can't see it, then you can always call them and ask what your number is.

@Hello846268 any news? Was wondering how it went.

Lilsmae · 17/01/2024 13:31

Hi, no there isn’t. Just a print out of the property with the property’s information x

I’m on Bucks been on there since July, looking for a two bed for me and my daughter. I am band C which isn’t great but always in the top 20 bids. Today I am 1-5 today no doubt ill slide down as I’m always on the website at 12:00 on the Thursday.

It’s so frustrating that you can bid in one area and it shows you other options in different areas you can’t have. I can only bid in South Bucks and always see properties perfect in Aylesbury etc. I’ve started to give up to be honest. I’ve only been able to bid on 3 properties since October. I feel like I’m hardly ever eligible for anything 😞 I’m really hoping that this one comes through but even then if someone in A or B wants it then I’ve got no chance. I find it really depressing the bidding process.

stomachameleon · 18/01/2024 21:30

@SummerSu23 maybe be a good idea to see how long the average wait is for a C in your area. It's 2-3 years in mine (Kent) Then you can adjust your expectations if you know your in for a bit of a wait.
What is your situation now? If you don't mind me asking? Are you already social housing or private?

SummerSu23 · 18/01/2024 21:46

@Stomacharmeleon I live at home with my mum but she has health problems and needs to downsize to a bungalow. The mortgage has gone up due to interest rates and I am on maternity so can’t help as much as I’d like with bills. We have 3 bedrooms but one of them has a damp problem we can’t afford to repair it. I’m going back to work I just need something affordable. I hear all different stories some people wait 4 years, some out within a year. I’m hoping as I’m only looking for a 2 bed and I honestly not fussy at all that it won’t be so long.

stomachameleon · 18/01/2024 21:54

@SummerSu23 has your mum sold it? Put it up for sale and written a letter to say you will be evicted due to her medical need? Things like this helps your position.
Sorry if you know all this already.
Housing will step in when things are dire generally.

SummerSu23 · 18/01/2024 22:03

@Stomacharmeleon I’ve put all her health issues down and she’s wrote a letter saying I need to leave because I really do for both of our sake. My baby is not a good sleeper either so it’s stressful for my mum and she’s 66. I know there is people worse off and on the street etc so I do try and think of that. She’s holding off selling until I’m out but perhaps that’s the next step in order to move up. I would feel better in B then I guess you’re actually a priority. I feel like C isn’t going to get me anywhere fast but like I said I hear mixed reviews. I find it hard because I get my hopes up in 1-5 then get knocked back to 11-20.

stomachameleon · 18/01/2024 22:44

@SummerSu23 that's what I would do. You aren't in need all the time you have a roof over your head.

Hello846268 · 19/01/2024 06:45

@Livinglife86 @stomachameleon

Hello, firstly I’d like to say thank you for all of the support and help over the past weeks. You guys have been absolutely amazing and so helpful. I was offered a 2 bed flat. I viewed it on Friday and accepted on Monday. I am now now in the process of moving in. Just to give everyone someone hope and reassurance, you will get there please don’t give up hope. And if worries just talk to people get all the advice and help you can. I am so so thankful for you all xx

Livinglife86 · 19/01/2024 08:27

@Hello846268 that's fantastic news. I am so pleased for you :)

SummerSu23 · 24/01/2024 20:40

@Stomacharmeleon I got an email yesterday from housing to say I had placed well for a property and had to do a verification. I know that I’ll probably not get it as I’m sure I was 6 -10 so I doubt so many will refuse the property. It’s a positive step forward though hopefully I’ll get my happy ending soon 🤞🏼

Livinglife86 · 24/01/2024 20:55

@SummerSu23 I think you might have just received your offer.

This is the same letter I received what I was offered the property ranking 11-20!

SummerSu23 · 24/01/2024 22:01

@Livinglife86 no way! Don’t get my hopes up 😂 this is for bucks as well. Is this the same as yours? It’s a new build and 5 minutes drive from a family member. There was 8 flats available but all had about 20 bids on each. I managed 6-10 on x 3 of them.

I want it so much I just don’t believe I’ll be so lucky. They haven’t offered a viewing yet I sent everything over within 10 minutes I was just happy to be considered after months of not seeing anything. 🤞🏼

Livinglife86 · 25/01/2024 07:35

@SummerSu23 I have feeling you have got it! Have a look and check if they have listed in the bid closing section who the places have been offered to. Your rank and number plus your priority date should appear ☺️ let us know how it goes x

@SummerSu23 any news?

SummerSu23 · 28/01/2024 14:36

@Stomacharmeleon No I’m still waiting. They said I had to send documents in by 26th so I’m hoping it’ll be tomorrow I find out. I feel like there must be others in-front of me though if there’s a viewing. I shouldn’t get my hopes up really but it’s closest I’ve been by far 🤞🏼🥺

stomachameleon · 28/01/2024 19:58

@SummerSu23 have everything crossed for you. Have been in your position.

SummerSu23 · 30/01/2024 13:22

@Stomacharmeleon @Livinglife86 I received an email today to say I am
shortlisted position 1. They have sent my details off to the housing association and then they will contact me if I’m selected. I mean it sounds promising I’m not sure why I wouldn’t be accepted. I’m going back to work after maternity. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Livinglife86 · 30/01/2024 13:24

@SummerSu23 it's in the bag!! 😊😊👜 It's got to be!
