Social Housing Ranking confusing

Livinglife86 · 03/09/2022 22:15

Thank you for reading my post. Please could anyone explain what the council ranking numbers mean?

Example: 1-5, 6-10 & 11-20

I called the council and enquired however the operator said she didn't understand the ranking system either ☹️

I am currently in Band B the property I bid upon placed me at 11-20. I asked my Dad what this meant and was told "I don't have hope in hell..." however he admitted he had no idea how the ranking system worked.

Do I just wait for the bid to end then enquire again? I won't deny I feel a little dismayed as it was a lovely property and a new build in one of the nicest areas so it proved very popular very quickly 😣

I can’t be living at my friends house for 2 years with a 3 year old and new born. What am I going to do🥲thank you for getting back to me though @Livinglife86

Livinglife86 · 30/11/2023 14:57

Hi I think if you get into Band A you would be housed much quicker than any other band. Have a look to check the criteria to check if it applies to you. If so draft a letter then upload it in homechoice locata via the change in circumstances button. Good luck you got this!!

@Livinglife86 all depends where you live I suppose?

Livinglife86 · 30/11/2023 15:15

Of course a person waiting on the list in London will have a longer wait than one in Derby for example. That is standard

Thank you so much both of you. I’m west Suffolk. The most recent properties I bid on had 49-50 people bidding and I was 11-20. Im just feeling like I’m failing with my son and he is going to feel so disrupted. But I’m going to try and stay positive as I can I keep things as “normal” as I can, and hope I can get him settled into something before baby comes. But thank you all x @Livinglife86 @Stomacharmeleon

Stomacharmeleon · 30/11/2023 15:44

Sorry I didn't mean to sound rude.
I was on the list years ago and initially much higher than you when bidding.
When I was moved to band a I moved fairly quickly.
This time round I was band B but I was releasing a much bigger house Back to them so they found me a small property within a couple of months.

Livinglife86 · 30/11/2023 16:17

@Hello846268 firstly I'll start by saying please don't feel like you're failing your son because your not you are a good mother and you are trying your best.

I was feeling exactly like that when I went on the housing register something will come up and you will get the perfect house for you for you and your family. If you can do try and get the criteria online and see if any of them applied to you, if you need help drafting a letter, just give me a shout in messages and I'll do my best to help you.

@Stomacharmeleon I would like to apologise if I sounded sharp. I haven't been feeling too great myself lately and if I sounded ratty forgive me it was never the intention. Xx

Thank you so much. I’ll have a look into this, it’s so nice being able to talk to people the helps gives me hope and also comfort. Let’s hope it won’t take to long, and if it does that’s also okay x@Livinglife86

kassmummy1986 · 30/11/2023 20:59

Hi

I've been ranked 0 out of 247 in Lewisham, currently going through short listing, what does this mean?

Livinglife86 · 01/12/2023 09:15

@kassmummy1986 Hi I’m not sure but I hope you get the property! Let us know how it goes.

Hi I was kicked out from my mums 5 months ago and have been staying in temporary accommodation (a hotel) for the past 5 months my relief duty ended (band E) I’m now band D however under the homeless act now but main housing duty so I’m band d but I’m under the homeless act I’ve recently found out I’m 11 weeks pregnant. I don’t have a cooker or anything like that just a fridge and microwave and the hotel I’m staying in has bug infestation obviously the hotel is for temporary accommodation people through council so they are aware and don’t really care I thought I’d move up a band but I haven’t and I thought I’d get a flat by now also haven’t? Or a two bed now I’m aware I’m having a baby. I feel so shit all the time I’m always over twenty on the housing rank one come out today and for the first time I’m 11-20 but I doubt I’ll get it as my housing officer said I will most likely be housed from being nominated a house or flat not through home choice ? She’s also said recently I may be moving to a lodge for pregnant people and families but you can go there if you don’t have Children or you’re not pregnant. I’m just wondering if any one relates or has and can guide me how long it’ll be I am itching to settle down somewhere now I don’t have any family other then my babydad and that’s not going to well atm I feel so depressed just want my own place and have no clue when I will or how much longer it’ll be and band D is so low but I know I’m not 20 weeks or anything so don’t think I’d move up a band until then and even then don’t know advice please anyone:( x

stomachameleon · 08/12/2023 10:59

@Depressedgirl I was a very young single mum and the advice I would give you is a. Start a new thread and then all the important stuff. How old are you? Are you working? What area are you in regards house.

I will warn you though you are likely to get a hard time on here. 2 bed flats don't just pop up and is now the right time to have a baby?

Depressedgirl · 08/12/2023 12:17

How do I start a new thread I’ve never used this website before in my life only read from it? And I’m 23 also in Buckinghamshire and no I quit my job recently due to having HG can’t go a day without being sick so atm not working but I have plans on going back to work eventually when I’m healthier and probs not ideal having a baby right now but everything happens for a reason what’s meant to be will be Thankyou though x

Depressedgirl · 08/12/2023 12:19

Also I think I’d rather a one bed atm I’ll feel bit lonely in a two plus I don’t mind sharing a room with my baby <3

stomachameleon · 08/12/2023 12:21

If you go on topics and pick the one you want it should say 'new' in the corner so you can post your own thread (I think :))
Welcome!

Livinglife86 · 08/12/2023 12:41

Hi Bucks are pretty good with housing but because you are in temp accommodation at the moment you would be Band E or D because they see you as adequately housed.

Have you been to your doctor? About your depression? You maybe able to get out of the hostel and more suitable accommodation if you could get a supporting letter from your midwife and doctor regarding your prenatal depression. That would definitely help your application.

Hi, I’m so sorry for the situation you are in!! Im sorry I cannot be any help. I cannot imagine how hard it is. I was just wondering at the end of relief duty what happens?
@Depressedgirl

Depressedgirl · 08/12/2023 15:32

Thanks for responding Yeah band D atm and it’s not suitable as I can’t cook and am just eating on the day (microwave meals) or not eating at all which is why they have said about moving to a lodge where I’ll have a cooker but then I’m wondering how long I’ll be there as I don’t want my first experience being a mum being in a lodge and my child growing up there and yeah my Gp is aware I’m on anti depressants and they have already said it’s not suitable to me and my baby will be underweight if I don’t start eating correctly etc but maybe I should get it in writing then and waitinf on a midwife now hopefully shouldn’t be much longer however I’ve had a early scan so I know everything’s okay

Depressedgirl · 08/12/2023 15:34

Thankyou it’s okay yeah my relief duty ended two months ago and nothings changed for me literally nothing except false hope that I’ll eventually get a place because I’m main housing duty but doubt it’ll be soon if after 5/6 months they intend on moving me to a hostel

Livinglife86 · 08/12/2023 18:08

Yes, try and get it in writing and then upload it to change in circumstances

So I am on homelink and I check every single week but all of a sudden it has come up today with rank currently unavailable anybody know why I have try googling it but it doesn't come up with any explanation

Hello846268 · 15/12/2023 15:31

Mine is saying this too. Sometimes it takes a couple of days

AidaK · 21/12/2023 10:09

Anyone from buckinghamshire on the housing list? Im there for the last 6 month band B bidding whenever properties available but my rank doesn't change, total of 17 bids I've made ive noticed my rank always read : 20 or over, even if i place the bid first person on any property it will show initially 1-5 then straight will be changed to over 20 after couple of hours. I know there is other people with greater needs and will be prioritised always, specially with the lack of 3 bedroom house where I'am, but im just wondering any one in similar region.. and how things going with them?

Livinglife86 · 21/12/2023 10:15

Hi

It depends on what you're looking for but in general you should housed fairly quickly in band B.

Do you have any restrictions eg certainly type of place certain area etc.

Hi x

We were re housed me and my husband in 2021 within 2 weeks we had a 6 years old and i was pregnant with twins. Now Being single mother i thought it could be a-lot easier but emmmm 6 months and counting no signs.

in the Buckinghamshire you can only bid in one of the districts, where you lived for a total of 2 years ( its called local connection).

unless reporting Eviction local connection then no longer required. But i still think is luck, my neighbour had a baby after me and moved out quick, couple of month ago, just thinking she probably got on the register early as soon as she delivered, I joined july 🤔
