How long has your house purchase taken [so far]??

I had an offer accepted in mid-June; no chain. I've had my mortgage offer through and the survey done. There is an issue with ownership of an outbuilding so the vendors are sorting that out with the Land Registry. Searches not done yet but unlikely to be anything tricky there.

I'm hoping that I might be in by the end of October but realistically who knows. I've no idea how long the LR are taking to process casework at the moment. Once that's sorted it should all be pretty quick.

My daughter and her partner offered on a house on June 20th, it was accepted and they got the keys last week. So, 8 weeks.

Theundertaker · 27/08/2022 15:23

Almost 5 months so far.

LionessesRules · 27/08/2022 15:27

Offer accepted end March.
Keys end July. Would have been start of July if our vendors had listened to what we were asking for, rather than parroting the same (incorrect) response for weeks.

Denny53 · 27/08/2022 15:29

We offer accept on 12thMay. Hopefully completing on 3rd September So ages.!!

MarmiteCoriander · 27/08/2022 15:31

Ours took 3mths. I thought was excessive as it was also chain free on both sides and cash buyer, but I was told this was quick!

Denny53 · 27/08/2022 15:31

Problems with land registry too. Everything takes ages especially the searches!

Squashedraddish · 27/08/2022 15:31

We moved last month. It took almost 7 months but we were stuck in a chain of 6

Startuplife · 27/08/2022 15:34

Offer accepted early May
Exchange end of July
Keys this week
Would have moved 3-4 weeks earlier but the vendor was having medical treatment nearby so wanted to finish that before moving and we were happy to wait.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 27/08/2022 15:35

We accepted an offer and had our offer accepted at the start of June.

Like you Land Registry issues on purchase house and my buyer had issues with his mortgage.

Only on Monday did things start moving 🤣 we're the only link in our chain and when we started we were told early/mid September for moving, now looking end October...

dubyalass · 27/08/2022 15:42

Interesting, thanks everyone. The estate agents said most sales were taking around four months, which would take me to mid October. I'm not in a rush - currently in rented, but I don't want it to take forever and I would like to be in sooner rather than later! I'm ready to go as soon as I get the nod from the solicitors.

Our offer was accepted mid July , it then took around 2 weeks to get the mortgage offer . They've only just started the searches . We've been told 20 weeks but that'll be Christmas week so I'm hoping it's slightly longer .

dubyalass · 27/08/2022 17:23

@knickersniff are you in a chain? 20 weeks gives me the fear!

FASDE1517 · 27/08/2022 17:29

Chain of three - 7 months and counting 🙄

Nope no chain either side .. just told conveyancing taking around 20 weeks right now

oceanwind · 27/08/2022 17:57

Offer accepted end of April. Still not there yet but have a maybe day to complete in 2 weeks... let's see.

Notnecessary · 27/08/2022 18:11

Offer accepted in February, chain free, still ongoing, waiting on Land Registry to complete their bit now… no idea how long it’s gonna take them…

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 27/08/2022 18:25

One house of mine was over a year. This recent was just over two months. It’s different for everyone.

Kite22 · 27/08/2022 18:56

The 3 that have moved in the last year all took between 5 and 6 months (all 3 couples were ftbs with very small chains).

One friend had their offer accepted Oct 21, and they are still not in. Fortunately have very, very patient buyers....

InFiveMins · 27/08/2022 19:25

About 5 months.

dubyalass · 27/08/2022 19:51

Hmmm, might need to adjust my expectations then! I'm going to ask the estate agents for an update from the vendors on Tuesday.

6 months. I don't see us moving any time soon either.

SpaceyCake · 27/08/2022 22:15

Just over six months so far.

mrsed1987 · 27/08/2022 22:20

We sold 22nd Feb, moved 17th august, but chain of 4 and slow solicitors!

therouge · 28/08/2022 08:10

Offered mid-July (&accepted an offer on our house within days)
Mortgage offer mid-August
Searches are in, valuation booked for mid-Sept.
Shortish chain, first time buyers - our seller - her seller - last house is probate.
Vaguely hoping to be in by Christmas...

LozMarieFielder · 28/08/2022 08:44

2 years this September (it fell through but they keep giving us hope). We might have just found another house though, hopefully it won't be so difficult.
