Council want to house us opposite paedos!!

I’ll try and cut a long story short.
We are at risk of homelessness due to our landlord wanting to sell. Our section 21 ran out in July.
we have been bidding on properties every week with no luck.
The council bid on a property on our behalf in our local area (for personal reasons I didn’t bid on this particular property - issues with threats of assault from someone living on the same street as the one advertised).
anyway we were no.2 in the queue and couldn’t withdraw the bid which gave me huge anxiety. I’d even emailed the housing officer to say I didn’t bid for personal reasons.
2 weeks later which is today they have called and offered us the property. They have said if we refuse to take it they will help us no further!!
my partner has been to speak to a couple of the neighbours and they have said to be warned that a couple of convicted paedos live opposite the back entrance!

we have three young children how is this acceptable?
Im going to refuse the house and appeal!
anxiety is through the roof!! :(
anyone been through similar?

One of them turned down his advances
One of them knocked over his garden gnome
They are homosexuals and he’s a homophobe
They reported him to the police and he’s upset
They are French and he’s a xenophobic BNP member
The list is endless.

The next door neighbour who’s lived there 40 years has also said families don’t seem to stay there long 😕

So frustrating. I would literally take any other property apart from this one. Even if it’s miles and miles away.

If you really don’t want it then why not rent privately? It sounds as though that could be the better option.

And you could find yourself living right next door to one.

So rent one. Nobody's stopping you.

Yes that’s what is going to be the main basis of my appeal but I genuinely believe there should be some kinda law that these horrible vile humans shouldn’t be allowed to live anywhere near children

No because as a parent it's your job to look after your kids, just as you would anyway.

I mean paedophiles don't come with tattoos on their forehead.

You're other choice if you refuse is to be homeless and have no house for your children to live. I don't think you can be picky in this situation. You don't have to say hello to your neighbours and atm it's the word of somone else. Many live next to people and never talk to them. It's not unheard of.

Because perhaps he's going by rumours.

In a village near me a mob actually kicked someone's door in & beat him up because he was a supposed paedophile. He wasn't but once the rumour started it was quoted as fact. Poor guy ended up in hospital

But you don’t know for a fact they’re convicted, or even paedophiles.

I think it’s highly unlikely that two convicted paedophiles would be allowed by probation services to live together.

They need locking up 😔 then us parents wouldn’t have to worry about the vile humans

everyone’s kids are their world, you don’t love your kids more than anyone else loves theirs - just don’t get involved with the neighbours

But why do you keep going on about them when you have the much bigger problem of being potentially housed in a street, where someone has threatened you?

The potential paedos are a massive red herring here.

Yup but for this place I didn’t need a guarantor.
now everyone wants one and the rental prices here have gone up by 200 a month in my area they’re charging silly prices

I'm amused at the notion of the council looking up the "records" (recorded where, exactly?) of all people living near the property they're trying to fill.

What’s the issue there then? If one or both of you is temporarily unemployed could you take the house but then rent privately when you are back working?

That is the main issue yes but just finding out that too has thrown my anxiety off the scale further
