Council want to house us opposite paedos!!

I’ll try and cut a long story short.
We are at risk of homelessness due to our landlord wanting to sell. Our section 21 ran out in July.
we have been bidding on properties every week with no luck.
The council bid on a property on our behalf in our local area (for personal reasons I didn’t bid on this particular property - issues with threats of assault from someone living on the same street as the one advertised).
anyway we were no.2 in the queue and couldn’t withdraw the bid which gave me huge anxiety. I’d even emailed the housing officer to say I didn’t bid for personal reasons.
2 weeks later which is today they have called and offered us the property. They have said if we refuse to take it they will help us no further!!
my partner has been to speak to a couple of the neighbours and they have said to be warned that a couple of convicted paedos live opposite the back entrance!

we have three young children how is this acceptable?
Im going to refuse the house and appeal!
anxiety is through the roof!! :(
anyone been through similar?

Well done @Ilovepugs2017. You've done well to move from the frightened panicky thoughts that come in the small hours to being able to find the good advice on here and act on it. Sleep well tonight!

I agree. I'm not saying you dismiss the discomfort or ridicule the person, but as you say, not escalate it into a disorder, when it's just a natural feeling we all experience.

Obviously different people have different levels of anxiousness in varying situations at varying times, but the key is learning (and as parents teaching) mechanisims to identify it for what it is (genuine warning signs, normal reaction to a novel situation, hormones, drugs - medicinal or recreational including caffiene and alcohol) and then act on it accordingly. CBT is great for learning ways to stop cycles of negative thoughts which just feed on themselves making you feel worse and worse, and then act in ways that don't do you justice or help your life progress smoothly. Also keeping mood diarys (scoring out of 10 three times a day) to look for patterns so you can tell what your triggers are (PMS).

But all these strategies involve personal responsibility and self care. Not dependence on others to fix you, which really is the only need for all these formal diagnoses.

God I wish I could expect to be comfortable, free of anxiety for myself, free of anxieties relating to my children, have three kids, be in college, have a boyfriend who works part time, be facing homelessness and STILL moan that the council isn’t housing me to my satisfaction.

Fuck me OP. You need to grow up. Yes some shit is shit, but you are facing HOMELESSNESS WITH THREE KIDS.

Couldn’t have put it better myself

Well done OP.
And well done for ignoring the batshit goady posters who had nothing better to do than try to wind you up.

Well done OP, wishing you the best

Dontcareforthehaters · 25/08/2022 20:09

Thank you to the ones who have sent me good luck wishes ❤️🙏 it’s much appreciated. I have been to drive past the house with the children this evening and been talking to them about all the positive things that will come from moving to this place

When I said in my early post "everyone has anxiety" it feels that way in my job. People say it to me as if it will suddenly change things. Unfortunately for them I've had anxiety for a large part of my life, I've never allowed it to prevent working, accessing education or doing the stuff that need to be done. The areas that tend to suffer are social life and hobbies, sometimes I run out of energy but the essentials come first.

When people say "I have anxiety" I often want to say, do you have anxiety or are you genuinely in a situation where anyone would feel stress/worried/sleepless.
My anxiety has triggers but often it feels "misplaced". I'm having a relaxing day, everyone is happy and safe. Suddenly my heart starts to speed up, my hands tingle and my body goes into high alert. At that point I need to take steps to manage just like you would if you had asthma attack.

Often when people find out I have difficulty they are surprised, which kind of makes me proud. I work hard not to let it rule my life, I've done CBT a couple of times and take medication. Sometimes life gets in the way and it starts to build but I identify that, revisit CBT or access my support system.

People being glib about anxiety not being real or weak doesn't actually bother me that much. People throwing it out there to tick a box or use it as an excuse do make me angry.

Thank you 😊
anxiety has lessened a lot since I’ve spoken to the council & they have said it doesn’t have to be a forever home. I can always apply for a swap etc after 12 months.
Just trying to see all the positives now rather than letting the negatives wear me down

I haven’t taken anything they have said to heart because I don’t care what their opinion is. The lovely people who have come here and given constructive advice however I am thankful to.

@Ilovepugs2017 Well done. I'd love to know how you get on in the new house, and area. Assume you're now getting a but excited about it all. I hope the move goes smoothly, and your children settle in well. Best wishes.
