Decorator painted whole house wrong colour

I’ve just come to check on a rental property to find that the whole house has been painted dulux jasmine white rather than almond white which is what I specified. I have almond white in my own house and like it which is why I asked for it. I don’t know if it’s just a different house and different light but this looks so different. Is it? Has anyone swatched both? Would you say something ?

Well, you need to know what colour was used. From there you can decide what's next.

Whoatealltheminieggs · 30/07/2022 18:28

Jasmine white. He’s left all the empty pots there

Well is it actually jasmine white or are you guessing? Your post isn't clear.

If it is painted the wrong colour then the decorator should come back and fix it.

BoredOfGrey22 · 30/07/2022 18:29

Sorry cross posted.

Why did they use JW instead of AW?

QuebecBagnet · 30/07/2022 18:29

It’s a rental property, it’s not the end of the world. I might mention it, probably wouldn’t. I certainly wouldn’t expect him to repaint the whole house, can’t imagine it’s that different.

Denny53 · 30/07/2022 18:32

JuneOsborne. Op says house was painted Jasmine White instead of the Almond white she had specified.
OP don’t you like the Jasmine White? I personally don’t think there’s much of a difference between the two.
Either ask decorator to redo or keep the colour and ask for a refund

Whoatealltheminieggs · 30/07/2022 18:32

@BoredOfGrey22 no idea. Probably had it in and thought he’d palm me off with it

You're renting it not living in it. Does it really matter that much?

It will look clean and fresh, and the tennants won't care.

LocalHobo · 30/07/2022 18:38

Do you have your arrangement for almond white in writing?
I would contact the decorator pointing out the error, and suggest he offers a credit towards your next re-furb or can he suggest a solution more preferable to him. Remain pleasant but don't be fobbed off.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 30/07/2022 18:39

They look very similar although Almond White is a little darker. How does it look on the walls?

Won't the tenants re paint as soon as they move in?

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/07/2022 18:41

Does it really matter?

ouch321 · 30/07/2022 18:42

It doesnt matter if you prefer it as you don't live there.

Plus, the people who live there might prefer the other shade.

If he had painted it lime green I could understand your annoyance but on these two v close colours...

This is making a fuss for the sake of being a PITA.

Sunnysideup · 30/07/2022 18:43

That’s a minor difference ,,

Whoatealltheminieggs · 30/07/2022 18:43

It looks very white and we’ve done the ceilings brilliant white so there doesn’t look much contrast. Whereas I know almond white has a darker tone to it. Unfortunately I don’t have it in writing. I told him over the phone what I wanted. I know I didn’t say jasmine white because I didn’t know it existed until I saw the pots today.

neilyoungismyhero · 30/07/2022 18:44

I agree, it's pretty irritating if you specified a colour and I think you're probably right, he had a job lot of the jasmine...

As it's a rental though not sure I would be over bothered other than to ask him what the issue with the other colour was. If he's done a good job otherwise I'd suck it up.

Lonelycrab · 30/07/2022 18:44

Jasmine white is the nicer colour imo.

I wouldn’t worry about it myself, as long as they’ve done a good job, but appreciate you may feel different.

cushioncovers · 30/07/2022 18:45

I couldn't get worked up about it to be honest. I'd say pick your battles, let this one go.

HaveringWavering · 30/07/2022 18:45

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 30/07/2022 18:41

Won't the tenants re paint as soon as they move in?

She's a private landlord not a housing association.

MattDamon · 30/07/2022 18:46

I'd pay for his labour but tell him you aren't paying for the incorrect paint.

Whoatealltheminieggs · 30/07/2022 18:47

I think I’m also annoyed because I’ve just spent three hours scraping paint off floors and surfaces so seeing the paint pots has irked me.

OP posts:
HaveringWavering · 30/07/2022 18:47

I'd definitely be asking for an explanation as to why the wrong colour was used, and possibly looking for a discount if they had no good reason.

However I would not ask for it to be repainted.

HaveringWavering · 30/07/2022 18:48

That's shocking that the finish was also bad. Definitely complain.

Glorieta · 30/07/2022 18:50

At least he didn't so what I did which was tell the decorator to supply and paint the kitchen jasmine white but I got mixed up and told him jasmine shimmer.

Came home to a pink kitchen (with dove grey units) and cried!
Totally my error and lived with it til recently.

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/07/2022 18:50

I think your tenants might thank you for the jasmine white. Almond white is on a par with magnolia for being an out of date colour
