Induction hob, what brand?

Yellownotblue · 16/05/2022 21:50

Just that really! We’re redoing the kitchen and moving from gas to induction for energy reasons. I’m a bit reluctant as I’m a keen cook, but I know it’s the right thing for the planet.

I’m looking for a hob that’s easy to use, has zones that can be merged, and won’t beep at me all the time.

TIA x

Sorry, I should have also said I don’t want a downdraft extractor. So no Bora for us.

Ah sorry, came on to say Bora.
you will still need an extractor fan though, yes?

Yes, we’re having a ceiling one fitted.

I have this Neff one. I love it. So easy to use, can set timers on the rings so they turn themselves off. It's 5 ring but two of the rings can be used in combination so the right hand side can be used as a large single cooking area. Definitely recommend it.

We have a Bosch (Bosch, Siemens & Neff) all the same manufacturer. Very pleased with our induction hob. Very easy to use, rapid boil. Would never go back to gas.

We have one very similar to the Neff above but with the twist pad control - it’s the T58FT20X0. It’s really good, and at 80cm wide it’s a good compromise size. We had a 90cm one in our old house and that was great but the 80 is just that little bit more compact and works well in our space. I’m guessing since this is a new kitchen you will have flexibility on size, unless you have no option I would avoid a standard 60cm hob, the extra space is great especially if entertaining.

Another vote for Neff here. We bought one after using my SIL’s whilst staying in her house. I was a die-hard gas fan previously but wouldn’t have anything but an induction hob in the future. They’re great.

I've got a 5 ring Neff one. Love it

I agree with Roselilly36.
Had gas, wanted to keep gas but was unable to relocate the gas pipe when remodelling our kitchen without ridiculous expensive, so switched to an induction hob.
Would never go back.
Very quick to heat stuff up (heats a pan of water faster than the kettle) more efficient that gas, sleeker look at and easy to clean.
Ours is AEG.

We've got a Faber (Galileo or something) which works fine for us. It's got an extractor which goes out through the bottom of the cupboard underneath.

Mine’s AEG it was here when I moved in. I really dislike induction hobs and if you like cooking you will too.

You can’t pick up the pan and stir over the heat, moving the pan nearer and further from the heat as necessary.

There’s a reason why pro chefs cook on gas.

The only plus is it’s easy to clean.

I love cooking. I also love my induction hob. It's an AEG 80cm. 4 cooking zones with bridging function on two of them.

The merged zones thing is a gimmick FYI. There are still separate heating rings exactly the same as a non merged model, and a cold patch will exist between them. it basically just allows 2 zones to be adjusted with a single control.

I have an AEG and would rate it

We ended up with an induction hob by accident when the kitchen supplier sent it instead of a gas one by mistake. I checked out my pans and they were all compatible so I kept it. I love that it is easy to clean and gives the kitchen sleek and clean lines.

I'm still on the fence about cooking on it, for example when tipping a pan to make an omelette. It is a plug and play one because the original hard wired one was faulty, so it isn't as powerful as it could be and I can only have one hob on powerboost at a time.

My verdict is I'm fairly happy with it, but I don't find it better to cook on than gas.

It's an AEG one BTW and gets good reviews from Which.

Actually I take that back, it looks like you can get proper flexible ones now e.g. Siemens. Freeinduction

We have a Neff. And only last night were talking about how responsive it is.

Oooh, lots of replies, thank you! I was thinking Neff, but I will be researching Siemens, Bosch, AEG etc to compare.

I can look them up on Which? if you like.

I've got the Neff one linked above and do love it. However if you get the right one you can link it so it talks to your extractor fan, I got the wrong one, so whilst they are both great bits of kit (both Neff) they don't talk to each other 😁

@RampantIvy , thank you, that’s very kind - if you don’t mind letting me know what Which says/recommends, I’d be very grateful.

@Pashazade 😂 what a shame that your appliances have fallen out. I totally get you, my dishwasher is in a huff with the fridge.

We got this one last year

www.rdo.co.uk/miele-built-in-induction-hob-km7678fl-black.html?utm_source=Paid&utm_medium=Shopping&utm_campaign=SmartShopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIw8bDxaLn9wIVi9_tCh1vSQmUEAQYCiABEgJJb_D_BwE

It is quite big, but has a genuine single induction zone that will take up to 6 pans. Only downside is that I can’t stop the sodding cat from sitting on it.
