Induction hob, what brand?

Yellownotblue · 16/05/2022 21:50

Just that really! We’re redoing the kitchen and moving from gas to induction for energy reasons. I’m a bit reluctant as I’m a keen cook, but I know it’s the right thing for the planet.

I’m looking for a hob that’s easy to use, has zones that can be merged, and won’t beep at me all the time.

TIA x

@RampantIvy thank you! I will review them all. That’s really helpful 💐

@jaundicedoutlook I’m green within envy! 😄

@IrisVersicolor Michel Roux Jr has induction hobs and has done for years, he is definitely a pro chef. He has them in his restaurant La Gavroche and in his home too.

@Yellownotblue the main thing to do is to measure your current pans and work out if they will fit on the rings of the induction hob. This isn't like gas, if your pan is bigger the edges have no direct heat and you are relying on the pan's material to conduct heat to the edges. My induction has a combined zone of 2 areas so I can have a 28cm frying pan on it and it fits into that zone. I was limited to a 60cm hob.

I have had my induction hob for 9 years and I love it. Easy to clean, easy to use, I can lock the hob on or off so nothing can be changed. It looks new. It cost £800 and it was worth every penny.

IrisVersicolor · 18/05/2022 16:16

Good for him, everyone else uses gas (please don’t bore me with random googling).

Mine’s AEG it was here when I moved in. I really dislike induction hobs and if you like cooking you will too.

You can’t pick up the pan and stir over the heat, moving the pan nearer and further from the heat as necessary.

There’s a reason why pro chefs cook on gas.

The only plus is it’s easy to clean.

A good induction doesn't require the pan to me moved away from the heat, just use the heat control as it's much more responsive. I used gas for a week last month and it was so slow.

I did a cookery course in a Michellen star restaurant a couple of years ago and it was gas but mostly induction so chefs are definitely moving over to using them especially for sauces as the heat is so consistent.

I love cooking and have worked in kitchens a lot over the years but I'm sure I've bored you by now so no need to reply 😊

You can’t move induction pans away from the hob in the same way you do with gas that’s the point.

I know how to use the heat control, I just don’t like it.

I prefer has for cooking omelettes. You need to tip the pan to "work" an omelette.

Blooming auto correct GAS

beechhues · 18/05/2022 20:34

Siemens - beware heavy pans breaking the glass (twice, no to le creuset if clumsy) and the surfaces can scratch a bit.

CorsicaDreaming · 18/05/2022 20:56

Another vote for Neff
We got one 12 years ago. Always loved it and it never went wrong.

Now moved to a house with a gas range... counting the days to go back to induction!

Yellownotblue · 02/06/2022 20:02

Thank you everyone for your very useful advice. I ordered a neff hob and extractor fan (the ones that talk to each other 😁) this week.

I was torn between AEG and Neff but comparing my friends’ the Neff was scratched whereas AEG was like new (might be Neff owner is more careless than AEG owner).

I’ve ordered this one:
AEG IKE64450FB_BK Built In Induction Hob in Black

I’m assuming I cook differently to previous op as I move food around the pan rather than lift the pan… cooking for 5 it gets rather heavy. I love cooking but hate my gas hob.

Does everyone with induction experience a significant drop of power when using several rings simultaneously?

Talking Extractor Fans?! You'll have to let me know if their banter makes it worthwhile?!

🤣🤣

JuneJubilee · 04/06/2022 14:39

@NeedAHoliday2021 can you let us know how you find it?

I've only used other peoples, the one I've used most drive me nuts! I hate that it goes off as soon as you lift the pan & I tend to wiggle the pan a lot when I'm cooking. I know im going to have to change some habits! But im concerned I'm going to scratch the top to buggery before I manage to change!!

I HATE gas! pretty much everything about it.

My current cooker/hob is a very old electric cooker with very solid old fashioned metal 'elements/rings/whatever'. It's very dated, but I love cooking on it. But I'll have to replace it when I do the kitchen (part of the reason I've not done the kitchen yet.).

The guy in the shop explained which ones do & which don't & why, but that's all long forgotten! Sorry. My take from it was check the overall 'energy' available & go for the best one you can afford to avoid that happening. 💁🏻‍♀️

Yellownotblue · 17/05/2022 18:26

@RampantIvy , thank you, that’s very kind - if you don’t mind letting me know what Which says/recommends, I’d be very grateful.

@Pashazade 😂 what a shame that your appliances have fallen out. I totally get you, my dishwasher is in a huff with the fridge.

My washing machine (no longer have a separate utility - hate not having it!!) cannot be left unsupervised as it moves around the kitchen to make out with the oven. 🤣

seriously.

chatting hob & extractors though... must go check them out!!

the induction I liked last time I was looking was the Siemens 'grey' one that has the full length 'panels'.

during Covid I just gave up on getting the kitchen done and I can't find the enthusiasm for any of it now.

The model I have is high end with plenty of power over 3 rings, might need to upgrade the electricity fuse box then

I hope they will whisper very quietly!

this is the hob www.neff-home.com/uk/productlist/hobs/induction-hobs/T68FS6RX2#/Tabs=section-highlights/Togglebox=combinables/Togglebox=manuals/Togglebox=accessories/

It’s meant to connect with the extractor (via wifi), so the extractor automatically starts when you start cooking. It will be some months before they are installed. I shall report on the chatter!

I was on a course at Le Manoir Aux Quat Saisons pre-pandemic, and they have induction hobs in the kitchens there. So not just Michel Roux who prefers them!

Or what's known as the 'Consumer Unit' these days 🙄🙄

o don't know, but someone will be able to help if you start a thread with your question in the title. Possibly if you ring the manufacturers customer support.

good luck.

@Yellownotblue I'll have a look into it, but ill
probably pass on the option for chatting appliances. An extractor that makes decisions for itself or acts under instruction from the hobb would drive me nuts unless there's an easy over ride switch.

sll in all I'd probably be happier with a campfire in the garden! 🤣🤣

JuneJubilee · 05/06/2022 09:11

@Yellownotblue your job looks nice & im a big Neff fan. They've all changed so much Im going to have to start all over again.

some supposed upgraded function such as

Inspired by professional cooktops, Power Move gives you one big cooking area with different zones: boil in the front, simmer in the middle and keep pans warm at the far end. Simply slide your cookware where it needs to be, and keep your focus on your cooking

at first glance won't work for me. I have limited mobility in one shoulder/arm & need pans to be where I need them, & to be able the adjust the heat, not move the pans to the heat that's right. 💁🏻‍♀️

like I say, I'm not looking forward to doing the kitchen one bit!! Even more so with how much the prices have increased!!

JuneJubilee · 05/06/2022 09:12
