Waves and checks in. Hope everyone is getting on well whilst the weather is nice. Does anyone know if there are tricks for getting Ca’Pietra tiles at a discount, is there a factory shop anywhere? (I have googled but seemingly rather ineptly!)

Hello fellow dusty maidens (waves from small rubble mountain formerly known as the kitchen)!

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 18:34

@Sewfrickinamazeballs oh that's interesting on your first floor low pitch. We were tempted to extend one of the bedrooms and argue it in planning but we wanted to try and press on quickly so decided against it. (Looks sideways at original start date of Easter 2020....)

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 18:36

What are everyone's weekend build admin jobs?
Mine are
Update spreadsheet
Reconcile budget - spends out versus savings left
Bathrooms research
Finalise downstairs lighting and socket design

Hi! Still waiting for money though be agreed so no update but coming over for when we start.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 07/05/2022 19:17

Hi new thread!

I probably won’t get round to it but jobs for me:

  • decide on some outside lights (think x 2, maybe 3 can’t remember)
  • tidy up my list of what’s left (that I know of anyway) ready for builders meeting on Tuesday (including seeing what I’m meant to have done, oops)
  • tidy boiler cupboard ready for service guy on Monday
  • show plumber my choice of toilets on Monday
confused by bullet points appearing suddenly 😂

builders plan next week hopefully:

  • finish patio steps
  • power to summerhouse maybe
  • start work on utility bespoke bits pre Howdens bits
  • maybe get started on moving light switches
  • get downstairs loo basin installed
  • get toilet ordered and start on installing it
GardensandGrandDesigns · 07/05/2022 21:15

Final packing up of all our stuff this weekend and schedule pick up by storage company.
Next week rear wall knocked through and first steel put in. But first need to ask builder if they've built dpc wall one brick width in as it's not up to the boundary 🧐 if so, they will need to do it again! We need it to the boundary, as per the plans for our bookcase wall!

Newhome321 · 07/05/2022 23:15

Wave from a living room which has been our family bed room the last 1 month and could still be another month. We already knew that plaster isnt available next week so just hoping for some sort of small jobs(covering ceiling etc.), finish fitting staircase.
I haven't had quote for painting/decoration for bedrooms and living room and staircase. Very nervous.

On the old thread, saw the beautiful brick laid window and wow.

NewHouseNewMe · 07/05/2022 23:52

Good name for the new thread! Just missed the debt bit 😁

Yeah, definitely ask for it BlueMooMoo. A separate room would be immensely helpful. We kindly had 1 bedroom spared for the first 5 weeks until they had to knock the ceiling and the chimney off. I was kinda hoping that the loft plaster is to finish in the next 2 weeks then I would move the kids up(primary school age) but its now delayed. I remind myself often that we save alot for this so we could still have few get away this year.

Was updating my spreadsheet last night and the extra cost on loft additional insulation, stair fitting(only to accomodate due to the design error), 1 wall removing, old plaster taken off in window bay area in bedroom 1 and living room have all added to £12k more awggg!

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 08/05/2022 15:57

I've had the DIY email to say our utility room is being delivered Monday or Tuesday. Eek!

As I ordered off plan, we will have a 25cm gap between the broom cupboard and the wall. Not the end of the world. Will try to squeeze some shelves for shoes in and a couple of coat hooks for gardening gear.

This means I'm close to getting my yellow tap installed!

5am wake ups are hard work, and on top of building work. Your a trooper. I'd also push for one room to be finished. I'm going to do the same so we can move back with the cat who's hating being kept indoors at our air bnb

👋 thanks for the new thread. Lol to missing the word debt, the invoices are rolling in here now😳. Spent Saturday morning at Express Bifolds show room. Think we have decided on 3 sets of 3 panel bi-folds. Still thinking about whether I want the internal blinds or not. Thought I’d come away wanting sliders. But really like having a panel that opens and closes like an actual normal swing door. Don’t fancy engaging my core and heaving open the sliders every time I want to nip in and out. Think I’ve decided on anthracite grey, thought I’d want black but it was more glossy and a bit a harsh and also showed every smudge and fingerprint. Will see if builder has any recommendations for a different company to compare products and prices.

NewHouseNewMe · 08/05/2022 17:46

@Littlemissweepy there is a colour between black and anthracite grey called grey black that you might want to consider: RAL 7201. We have ordered it for our doors and our windows are already in it.

Littlemissweepy · 08/05/2022 18:08

Great tip thanks @NewHouseNewMe , have them asked if they come in that colour. Has anyone used Express Bifolds?

BlueMooMoo · 08/05/2022 19:54

Definitely looking at the bank accounts @Newhome321 and trying to stay strong. We have finally managed to book an airbnb next week though - we need respite for a while as we couldn't bear thinking until say July or August for a change. It's cost £1.5k so not too bad and just hoping I can rein in the cost somewhere else to help mitigate it.

BlueMooMoo · 08/05/2022 19:58

Thanks @Sewfrickinamazeballs . We're all feeling the tiredness but just trying to think it will be over before we know it and then we've got the next 20years to enjoy the space. 😀

How exciting! That must be the next big event in your build. Are you still happy with what you've chosen? I believe IKEA Pax comes in 25cm increments so it should be easy to find some cheap shelves or storage compartments from that range if that's helpful.

BlueMooMoo · 08/05/2022 19:59

It's always a bit nerve wracking seeing the invoices @Littlemissweepy but in some ways I really enjoy ticking them off as it means another job has been done and we're that much closer to a finished home!

Thanks! Yes, happy with what we've chosen. We have gone for cento in concrete. Our main kitchen is also a concrete type kitchen with a Dekton worktop so should tie in nicely.

Thanks for the tip re IKEA. That's super helpful, I'll take a look.

Great news re air bnb. How long will you be there for?

We are in ours now and have three weeks left. It's not home buts lovely to be able to escape the madness and just pop to the house when needed. Your stress levels will drop markedly!

Airbnb escape sounds great!
We dont have anyone on site today and I really wanted to discuss couple of things we noticed over the weekend as I only work from home on Monday.

BlueMooMoo · 09/05/2022 17:01

Did anyone turn up? @Newhome321
