Aibu to make an offer? What do people think if this house?

Dh says it's too Essex (the house and area)

Well the house is very nice (as it should be for that price!) except for the galley kitchen. Not sure about the area, although I had a boyfriend at school originally from Hornchurch (he lives in Bristol now). I don't know that side of London/edge of Essex at all.

SummaLuvin · 09/04/2022 13:56

can you explain what would be unreasonable about offering on a house? Surely you would only be unreasonable if you offered intending to take back your offer later on?

Mumof3curly · 09/04/2022 13:56

Summaluvin
In case I regret it

@yellowsuninthesky
Yes also don't like the living room (decor) and it seems quite thin too. And not sure about Essex either.

The living room decor could be changed. What are your concerns about Essex? I used to live in Dagenham.

Mumof3curly · 09/04/2022 14:04

Where do you live now? Not in Essex? A lot of things such as the reputation, the people (think towie).

OP posts:
Mumof3curly · 09/04/2022 14:06

Also it says the bedrooms are 4 doubles which they're clearly not!

The galley is the utility.
It’s a lot of money for an area you don’t know. My friend used to live near there, was quiet area, parking issues in road. Nice schools and sixth form.
I think the kitchen isn’t very nice but love the floor and it looks well kept. Hornchurch is lively and pleasant.

Elaine2468 · 09/04/2022 14:07

@yellowsuninthesky that's the utility though not the kitchen. Very narrow but probably fine for just going in to bung the washing on. The actual kitchen looks nice.
I like it but agree some rooms look a bit small.
I'm not sure I'd want to settle for something I didn't love for that sort of price. So if either of you aren't sure then I wouldn't do it.

I think some posters don't realise that there are actually other topics and think that everything has to be framed as an AIBU

I don't think anyone can possibly tell you whether you should make an offer, how can we say when we know nothing about you?

Very odd question

Mumof3curly · 09/04/2022 14:11

@Elaine2468interesting . I think the area is going downhill too. When did your friend live there?

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 09/04/2022 14:12

The only issue with the house is the living room wallpaper which will cost all of £100 to change.

If you're not keen on the area, though, I don't know why you'd bother. Have you viewed?

Mumof3curly · 09/04/2022 14:14

@girlmom21 and the carpets too I think

OP posts:
Popetthetreehugger · 09/04/2022 14:14

I think it’s very good for the price , I think it’s best of surrounding area . Decor is very essex and grey but easy to change ( have spent last few months viewing houses in essex at this and up price ) schools good I think , Ursuline very good name . Essex is not for the faint hearted, but is anywhere this close to London?

What is the reputation...
Hutchy16 · 09/04/2022 14:22

What a stupid post

EinsteinaGogo · 09/04/2022 14:25

Is this a friend's house that you have a grudge against, OP?

Doesn't sound like you have any intention of finding positives.

Ladywinesalot · 09/04/2022 14:27

You have the district line as a 5 min walk, and I’m sure that house belonged to a TOWIE star.
The one where the sisters talk about their kids.

And it’s a lovely home.

What snobs to say it’s too Essex. You must live in a right shit hole.

BertieQueen · 09/04/2022 14:27

Know the area very very well. Personally would not pay that to live there. Sorry.

scandihouse · 09/04/2022 14:32

It's a lovely house and the decor can be easily changed. Not sure why you're buying in the area when you don't seem to like it or know much about it. I live in Essex (not originally from here), quite close to Hornchurch and there are lots of really good things about the area - great schools, easy to get into London, nice community feel, lots of parks and open green spaces.

That’s what I was sensing ….
saggyhairyass · 09/04/2022 14:38

I'd redecorate but it's got "good bones". It's in a great location (Hence the price?) and there's tons of space. If I had £800k I'd put in an offer.

Clarinet1 · 09/04/2022 14:38

I now live in SE London. Initially moved to be nearer my late DM and to get a slightly larger place in a more central area and also nearer to where I was working at the time, not specifically because I didn’t like Essex. I’m far from being what you might think of as a stereotypical Essex girl and, while those types do exist, I found a fair amount of people who shared my interests. You don’t mention DC but, if schools are a factor, I believe Coopers Company and Coborn is well thought-of and gets good results. If you want to know the main thing that I objected to about Dagenham though, it was the fact that, at the time I was there, ww had several BNP councillors!

Robin233 · 09/04/2022 14:39

It looks a lovely house.
