About to put our house up for sale.. anyone else?

DomusAurea · 14/03/2022 08:24

We are taking the plunge and it's happening - we are selling our house (and relocating 200 miles away but that's another thread I guess) - anyone else? I could do with a collective handhold!

This is where we are now:

  • finishing the last small jobs such as painting a ceiling
  • having meets with estate agents for valuation
  • nervously searching rightmove for possible houses in our relocation area (there isn't a lot!)

Are you going for sale soon? Tell me how it's going!

(we are in the South East)

@InTheCludgie sympathy on the back and hips. My hip and knee are dodgy and I can’t wait till next week when I won’t need to go downstairs to get my morning cuppa.

@Whippetquick so sorry to hear that 😓I did the last viewing here and got an offer out if it, fingers firmly crossed for you.

Sorry about your Dad @CafeCremeMerci . Yesterday it really hit me that we are finally actually moving after deciding to 3 years ago but Dad won’t be up there. Bit nervous about leaving this empty so hoping that this sale will actually go through and it won’t take ages.

CafeCremeMerci · 04/08/2022 07:47

@Volterra thanks. It's been a longtime now (12 years) but I don't miss him any less. It's hard enough living away, but 'going home' is so hard. I hope things are ok back home for you x

best of luck with the house selling so you don't have to worry, but keep in mind that empty houses aren't that appealing to burglars.(yes squatters, but far less likely!!)

So I had my two viewings earlier today. The first one arrived 20 minutes early, knocked, opened the door and shouted in...she thought I was the EA and my DH, who had just walked out the door and drove off in his car, was another viewer! I was standing there in my scabby jogging bottoms and wearing rubber gloves, she was very apologetic and came back at the agreed time!

I got better vibes from her than the second viewer tbh, I don't think she was as keen. I have another viewing booked in for Monday, my EA is open on Sundays and they will try calling the two from today so should hopefully know their thoughts either way by the time that viewing takes place.

Volterra · 07/08/2022 17:31

Oh dear @InTheCludgie ! Fingers crossed there is good news coming very soon. I am going to be try being relentlessly positive about everything this week 😀

InTheCludgie · 07/08/2022 20:19

Positive sounds like a good plan @Volterra I'll take a leaf out of your book I think!

EA came back today to say a viewer from yesterday wants to come for a second viewing on Tuesday but oddly enough it's the lady who seemed less keen...obviously playing pretty it cool at the time! We now have two viewers booked in for tomorrow too.

So I spent half an hour trying to find something that I hid out of sight for viewings, it got put away before the holiday so of course I couldn't remember where it was! I'll be glad to hopefully get an offer in time so all my crap can finally emerge from their hiding places.

Volterra · 07/08/2022 21:02

That’s very encouraging! I often don’t say much when viewing as am concentrating and it takes up a lot of my brainpower 😀 I can so relate to not finding things that I’ve hidden!!!

InTheCludgie · 09/08/2022 12:59

So we have had feedback from yesterday's viewers, the first likes the house but are going to view a few other places so not making any commitment at present, second one said our stairs outside were dangerous which I don't agree with - yes there's a lot of them but they're not exactly crumbling!

Am feeling a bit down about it and starting to lose my nerve a bit with moving. If we stayed, we could pay off the mortgage, convert the loft and have spare cash to go on some really nice holidays. But I know the parking in particular would just continue to annoy me!

Volterra · 09/08/2022 14:41

So difficult when you are in position where you could stay as it’s such a horrible process. Any other viewings booked?

Full on moving mode here and am stickering things with coloured dots, about to crack open post it notes next with notes for packers. Tenant pretty much left now and said she had a full on sobbing meltdown yesterday and when I couldn’t find DS’s GCSE certificates which he may need for enrolling at university I thought of what she said.

Buyer’s solicitors sent enquiries this morning. Same as last time so and pasted and pointed out there is now not a wall that needs rendering as was done before her clients viewed it !

ecochiroptera · 09/08/2022 15:48

Finally joining this thread. The sign has gone up this morning. I completely forgot to tell our neighbours (we're friendly but not friends) that we are planning to seel, so it came as a bit of a shock to them - oops. I am trying not to get too excited since I know our house is a little bit marmite, so could take a while to sell. But I've seen my dream house in our new location, so I am praying we get an offer before they sell. The last two years have been so difficult, I need a win!

InTheCludgie · 09/08/2022 18:55

@Volterra we have someone dye to arrive shortly - house tidied, kids out and am kicking back with a cuppa while I wait! This viewer was here at the weekend and asked to come back which is positive. What date do you move?

Welcome @ecochiroptera I wish you luck with your house selling/buying. I know what you mean about marmite - people will either love or hate the stairs here I think!

Volterra · 09/08/2022 19:03

Good luck @InTheCludgie !! We are going Thursday night and an unloads Friday.

SquashSqueezee · 09/08/2022 19:56

After a few days of non stop cleaning, de cluttering etc ready for new EA first thing tomorrow to do paperwork and take pics, hoping will hit right move on Friday.

So hard to keep it clean with the kids but we’re away next week so hoping we can get a block of viewings done then.

We had offers within a week when we agreed sale with previous buyers but that was back in December so no idea what to expect now.

InTheCludgie · 09/08/2022 21:04

Hope you get lots of viewings @SquashSqueezee !
So our viewers were a no-show ☹️ and no others booked in at present, so feel I can relax a bit now and pull some items out from their hidey-holes.

SquashSqueezee · 09/08/2022 22:26

@InTheCludgie how frustrating. We had several of these during round 1 so expecting the same this time.

house is looking good, not quite as sleek as we got it last time but the initial enthusiasm for house moving has worn off and combine with school holidays is as good as we could do.

A fellow school mum as let me know there house is going on the market this week so that’s something we can view after our hol. Absolutely nothing on around here at the mo so this gives me hope for it picking up.

Volterra · 10/08/2022 08:21

That sucks @InTheCludgie 😢
There is a young lad packing my understairs cupboard who has been polite about the amount of crap we have.

Chemenger · 10/08/2022 09:31

We got rid of a load of furniture to a charity yesterday, sold a bed, packers come tomorrow, moving on Friday. We just got back from the US (DH was working there for 5 years) where we moved out of our apartment so it's a month of moving. We have a week after we move out before the sale completes to clear the garage and clean. Buyers have asked to come round with a painter and their wifi router has been delivered, contracts are ready to sign so definitely looks like it will all work out this time.

ecochiroptera · 10/08/2022 11:31

@SquashSqueezee Yes, keeping everything neat and tidy with kids (and in my case also fluffy pets) is such a pain!

@InTheCludgie That's so rude to just not show up. If they had changed their mind, they could have at least called to cancel.

We've got our first viewing booked for the weekend. Can't believe it. It's not even been 24 hours. Our plan is to hide all the yucky pet things (litter boxes, food bowls) and then squeeze everyone in the car to go for a little ride. Not ideal given the current fuel prices but it'll be too hot to just take them on a walk with us, so it is what it is.

SquashSqueezee · 10/08/2022 17:23

@ecochiroptera great news you have viewing already, hopefully we will be as lucky!! Have left key with estate agent whilst we are away in hopeful anticipation!!

we’ve got a viewing for a house tomorrow at 10. We know the vendor through school so hopefully they would look favourably on our offer were we to make one.

keep noticing more cleaning that needs doing in the house - seems never ending!!

Volterra · 10/08/2022 17:24

That sounds very heavy going @Chemenger , you must be relieved the end is in sight.

Our packers have left and dinner on way. Emailed agent for update on buyers but think he may be away.

Volterra · 10/08/2022 17:25

That’s great news @ecochiroptera !

KarrotKake · 10/08/2022 18:15

@ecochiroptera we left the pet food down (dry only, clean bowls), the litter tray is already behind a door, but was also clean. Puddycat stayed for viewings. Kids got sent out. My car was full of cat scratching posts, cat beds, excess chairs, DHs work stuff (think giant hold all of safety kit) etc etc.

I've not posted for a while as it all looked like it was going to fall apart - indeed the top of the chain went back on the market briefly - but we completed our purchase last week, and our sale is under offer for the third time - I was about 24 hours from telling the agent it needed to switch to rental when there were 5 viewing booked, and we got a proceedable offer. Fingers crossed this goes through!

Good luck to those of you still in the process. It's been an emotional, stressful rollercoaster, and I've told DH we're not moving again!

InTheCludgie · 11/08/2022 10:27

Thanks everyone, I guess a no-show was bound to happen at some point in this process!

Good luck @Volterra with the move and good luck @ecochiroptera with viewings and @KarrotKake, hope it works to plan for you. How did your viewing go @SquashSqueezee ?

SquashSqueezee · 12/08/2022 22:56

Our house went on the market at lunch time today and have 2 viewings booked in for Monday.

Hoping more people will see it over the weekend and call up to view.

The house we saw yesterday was ok but a definite compromise. Told agent we are interested as still thinking it through and want to be updated on other offers etc.

Main think was the garden is small and on a slope and backs on to main road, one of main issues with current house is lack of usable garden so not sure it’s something we can look past.

Volterra · 13/08/2022 05:44

@SquashSqueezee that's an encouraging start. I don't think I would look past the garden. We've downsized ours a fair bit but it's all very usable and I've seen enough gardening programs to know we can make it do a lot. We're overlooked more than I would like but can do something about that - a road you are stuck with.

Whippetquick · 13/08/2022 09:24

After losing my buyer for second time have had a offer at more than I sold for last time. Only 3 in chain as well. Just as well because my onward purchase estate agent has given us until Monday to sort another buyer or I would have lost it. Everything happens for a reason

Just hoping now all goes to plan with no other dramas
