Neff Slide and Hide Ovens

We are doing our kitchen up in a month or so and I’m at the appliance buying stage. Whilst I take a moment to have a break from how crap integrated freezers are I’ve been looking at ovens.

I am seduced by the gimmick of the slide and hides, but there are so many different models I don’t know where to start.

I’ve seen some reviews saying they’re really, really hard to fit and that the instructions are useless, and then others saying they love them.

I’ve looked back on last threads and seen some people say they’ve gone for a higher and lower end model together.

We will be getting two full size single ovens. Would be interested to know if people rate them as ovens and if any particular model has issues/is brilliant.

I have two of these ovens (one a better specification) side by side at eye level. The slide in doors are pretty much essential at this level or using the oven would be pretty awkward and dangerous with the doors being in the way.
We’ve had them 3 years and they are great and I would absolutely get them again as I do not think they are gimmicky.
We are a family of 5 and they are very well used !

I inherited a kitchen with 2 hide n slides next to each other with a big Neff induction hob over the top of them. Chosen by vendor. Such a great design and they worked perfectly and were super quick to heat up. Ovens cleaned themselves!!

I sold them when I sold the kitchen, but they were awesome. I just replaced them with a beautiful gas range...but I now miss the old set up 😂

Definitely recommend the Neff!

FuzzyPuffling · 18/01/2022 19:31

I've got one in my new kitchen. Tis lovely.

OwBist · 18/01/2022 19:47

I have the pyrolytic one (think it's the N70 model). I love it. I'm short and feel safe getting heavy things in and out as I can get very close. Having replaced an oven with a dial and "guess the actual temp", I love the digital display that lets you be very precise. Also use some of the other cooking settings, and have been impressed with results (circotherm roasting, pizza, grill).

I have the microwave above it, and although it's fine, I would prefer a h&s door on this, too!

SunnyUpNorth · 18/01/2022 19:53

Oh brilliant, thank all.

@shalo2 do you know which two you have? I am struggling to spot the difference between the various models. They all seem to have a full set of functions. What does your better one do they your other one doesn’t?

We will be replacing a gas range which is the bane of my life! It doesn’t work properly and is so hard to clean. I am very excited for a wipe clean induction hob and some fully functional ovens!

@OwBist have you got the digital one rather than the turn dial one? Been looking at both and they both get good reviews.

We have 2 single hide & slide Neff ovens with combi microwave between and warmer drawer below the microwave. Love this set up - had it 4 years now. Only issue I find with the ovens (nothing to do with the doors) is that if you want to go higher than 200 deg c you need to change oven setting. Ie I use circa therm as default which I think is “normal” fan but if I want to eg roast potatoes need to change setting to a roasting program which I think is a pain.

SunnyUpNorth · 18/01/2022 20:00

Oh yikes that sounds quite complicated @haggisaggis!!

Interested as I’m planning to get one of these

BonnyandPoppy · 18/01/2022 20:05

I have a neff hide and slide next to a neff microwave oven combination with a warming drawer underneath to make them the same size. All work great. Think mine is the N90 with pyrolytic function and a telescopic sliding shelf. The microcombi is the N70 which has a slightly smaller display.

OwBist · 18/01/2022 20:06

Yes - controls are via a rocker switch! Up/ down or left/ right. I managed to set up basics without the instructions, as the user interface is pretty intuitive. Took me a minute or two to realise I needed to touch the "start" button, tho! 😀

BonnyandPoppy · 18/01/2022 20:07

This is them. The microwave combination oven doesn’t have a hide and slide door but is very useful at Christmas when I need a second oven

I like my Neff Hide and slide oven, warming drawer and microwave/combi oven

MaggieFS · 18/01/2022 20:08

I've been wondering about these. Things on my mind... do t you lose all of the heat out of the oven as it takes longer to open and slide? And do you lose internal oven space? I feel like they're a bit faddy and if it wasn't for Bake Off, no one would really know about them.

CovidCorvid · 18/01/2022 20:11

I have a neff oven. It was available either with a hide and slide or with a normal door. Because my oven is low down I didn’t feel I needed the hide and slide so can’t comment on that feature. But I love the oven. I got the digital switch one, no dials but a rectangle shape rocker switch in the middle, that broke within months but was replaced under warranty and replacement has been fine since. Oven warms up quickly, lots of different modes, dough proving ,etc.

ILoveMyMonkey · 18/01/2022 20:12

I love my neff slide and hide oven it is amazing. I only have a single as that’s all the room I have in my teeny kitchen. It also has a boost button for the heat so heats up super quickly and the self clean function is brilliant.

MaudieandMe · 18/01/2022 20:16

I've had mine 5 years now and they're great. I slide open the door and grab the baking tray from inside the oven and turn slightly to put it on the island unit behind me.

So much easier than leaning in when you're a short arse like me. (5'2")
I have two full sized ovens (plus combi microwave) and it's very handy if you have guests.

I had a brand new electric Aga in my last house but never really got on with it.

Crepuscularshadows · 18/01/2022 20:17

If you go on the neff website you can compare all the features. I have them and love them. They're a little smaller than a normal oven because the door takes up more space when it's "in".

The big decisions are whether you go for steam assist and whether you want a touch screen or control pad. And if you're into oven cleaning there's a couple of different options (I'm not into oven cleaning).

I have used and hated the touch screen with a passion so opted for control pad when I bought mine.

If you're into WiFi you can get them set up to do that with an app at the higher end but it always just seems another thing to go wrong.

I roast my tatties at 200 so don't bother with circoroasting.

If you buy two you might need to buy the same series (n70/n90) because there's a difference in the external appearance trimmings but you can buy high/low spec within the series and they'll look the same.

TheDogsMother · 18/01/2022 20:23

I have the Neff Hide & Slide pyrolytic (which is amazing) above the micro/combi oven above the large warming drawer. All digital controls. Had them 4+ years and have been really happy with them.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 18/01/2022 20:28

Love mine! We fitted it when we had a new kitchen. Love the digital dials, the boost heat function and the ease of getting stuff out. Only thing is ours is under counter fit like a normal oven so we have to be careful the cat doesn't wander too close for a peek inside when the door is opened fully.

ISmellBurnings · 18/01/2022 20:32

We also have the slide and hide oven combo with a oven/microwave and warming drawer. I love them!

SunnyUpNorth · 18/01/2022 22:35

Oh thanks all, this is super info.

People with a warming drawer, do you actually use it? We just use ours in our range cooker for storing baking trays etc. I wasn’t sure about a combi oven as one thing that really frustrates me in my current oven is when I cook a roast and have the meat, potatoes, pigs in blankets/stuffing balls, poss Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese etc it’s too much to fit in my current oven (we have a range master but the non fan oven doesn’t really work so I never use it) so can’t have everything and it bothers me! I feel like the combi and drawer would take up extra valuable cooking space.

OP posts:
BonnyandPoppy · 18/01/2022 22:54

If you want a microwave or microwave combination oven then they are all smaller so you need the warming drawer to get them the same size next to each other. If you don’t want a microwave or have enough room for it somewhere else then you can have two full size ovens. I got the microwave combination oven so had extra oven capacity when needed but also the microwave function.

SharksAlive · 18/01/2022 22:58

We use the warming drawer every night to pre-warm our plates but it's also great if you are doing a multi dish meal, like a roast, for keeping dishes warm.

SunnyUpNorth · 18/01/2022 23:03

How good is the combi oven as an oven? Can you cook a roast in it?

OP posts:
BonnyandPoppy · 18/01/2022 23:10

Yes it works well just like a normal oven. Doesn’t have a microwave turntable in it. Just normal oven shelves.
