Neff Slide and Hide Ovens

We are doing our kitchen up in a month or so and I’m at the appliance buying stage. Whilst I take a moment to have a break from how crap integrated freezers are I’ve been looking at ovens.

I am seduced by the gimmick of the slide and hides, but there are so many different models I don’t know where to start.

I’ve seen some reviews saying they’re really, really hard to fit and that the instructions are useless, and then others saying they love them.

I’ve looked back on last threads and seen some people say they’ve gone for a higher and lower end model together.

We will be getting two full size single ovens. Would be interested to know if people rate them as ovens and if any particular model has issues/is brilliant.

I was seduced by a slide and hide oven in a kitchen showroom almost four years ago, and even now every time I use it It makes me happy. Ideal door to have with small children around.

The self cleaning oven feature is also amazing.

BonnyandPoppy · 18/01/2022 23:14

Bit of pain to use microwave as you have to press a few buttons to get it going. No one button minute button like on a normal microwave.

MazzleDazzle · 18/01/2022 23:16

We have 2 slide & hide ovens.

Gimmicky and no real benefit, in my humble opinion!

Wouldn’t have them again.

twoofusburningmatches · 19/01/2022 03:44

I love ours! The door is brilliant. I got the self-cleaning one - think n90. But didn’t get the steam version.

I love the combi oven too. Works like a normal oven, so fine for cooking a roast in. But love that it is also a microwave. I find it really easy to use as both an oven and microwave.

TheSandgroper · 19/01/2022 06:22

I”ll put my hand up and say that I love my side opening doors. Neff was out of my price range so I didn’t even look at it but got side openers because of getting older/dicky back/well used wrist etc. Really pleased.

Gabbiadini · 19/01/2022 06:51

We have this one and also the one that is a microwave and an oven depending on which setting you choose (not slide and hide but matches the attached one and is brilliant as an extra oven for Sunday roast days etc. Love them both. The slide and hide one has a self cleaning setting which is very handy.

How do you all find cleaning the slide doors?
I have read reviews with people trying to clean the glass and having to take the door off and struggle to get it back on??

The door to our microwave combi one has got something spilled in between the glass and the door and is impossible to clean. However I’d like to think most people aren’t as careless as my family member that did this!
mafted · 19/01/2022 07:02

We have two and I love them. I can't imagine having regular doors at the height my ovens are at. They're pyrolytic which is brilliant. I love the bread and pizza functions.
The doors are a bit of a faff to clean between the glass but my old range was too.
As pp said the fan only goes to 200, although I find that fine for most things, I do my roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings at 200 and they're perfect.

MissMarpleRocks · 19/01/2022 07:16

Love them. I get annoyed with microwave combi oven because it doesn’t have sliding doors 😂

I only ever use the fan oven for cooking including roast potatoes & the automatic cleaning is fab.

SunnyUpNorth · 19/01/2022 09:26

Have just been convincing myself I don’t need the fancy self cleaning function but you all seem to love that! Is it the pyrolitic one? There seems to be another non pyrolitic easy clean option too.

I have a range oven and the doors are filthy in between the glass but I had no idea this was something you could clean!!!!!

Ooh, side-opening doors sounds good. Which make are they? I'm still in early stages of planning layout/browsing appliances and I don't think I've come across any side-openers.

Oh bloody hell. That's not fancy. That's essential. I'd have that without doubt. It's not just available on Neff ovens through.
TiddleTaddleTat · 19/01/2022 12:30

I’m sold on the slide and hide because the kitchen I’m planning has oven at head height. I’ve also discovered Neff do microwaves that have right hinge opening, which will be helpful in our design for a small kitchen.
The guy in the kitchen place said pyrolytic wasn’t all it was cracked up to be because you have to remove and clean the wire racks anyway, so isn’t just cleaning at the push of a button , as claimed.
However I mentioned this on another thread and many posters came forward and said pyrolytic is well worth it.
Being someone that literally avoids cleaning my oven as long as possible it’s probably worth it …

MaggieFS · 19/01/2022 12:36

@TiddleTaddleTat He's right in that the shelves have to come out but you can just chuck them all into a giant bag of Oven Pride to clean them and then you don't have to scrub the oven because of the pyrolytic function.

OvaHere · 19/01/2022 12:52

@SunnyUpNorth

Oh thanks all, this is super info.

People with a warming drawer, do you actually use it? We just use ours in our range cooker for storing baking trays etc. I wasn’t sure about a combi oven as one thing that really frustrates me in my current oven is when I cook a roast and have the meat, potatoes, pigs in blankets/stuffing balls, poss Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese etc it’s too much to fit in my current oven (we have a range master but the non fan oven doesn’t really work so I never use it) so can’t have everything and it bothers me! I feel like the combi and drawer would take up extra valuable cooking space.

I have 2 Hide and Slide ovens. I really like them. I have one on top of the other (not enough space for side by side) but it still works really well.

I deliberated for ages between 2 ovens or one plus a warming drawer. If you can afford it and have space I think 2 ovens is better. I've no idea how I managed for so many years cooking Sunday roasts etc... with one crappy oven.

Does depend on how many you cook for though. My MIL has the one oven plus warming drawer and finds it useful but doesn't cook regularly for a lot of people.

If I'd had the space I'd have had 2 ovens and the warming drawer but I couldn't really sacrifice any more cupboard space so instead have a deep drawer underneath for roasting/baking tins etc...

I have the pyrolytic feature on one of my ovens. I've only used it once as I'm a bit wary of the extreme heat.

One of my heating elements in the far top right has drooped out of shape, now hangs down and occasionally catches on tinfoil if I use the top shelf.

I think it probably happened during the pyrolytic clean as that's the highest temp the oven has ever reached so I can't see what else it would be.

That aside the pyrolytic feature does clean as it's supposed to but as I said I'm a bit wary of it. I probably should have phoned Neff and queried it at the time.

Policyschmolicy · 19/01/2022 13:01

I love mine. Had one in my old house, along with the combi micro, and installed the same in our new house.

ISmellBurnings · 19/01/2022 13:24

We use our warming drawer all the time!

The oven/microwave with warming drawer underneath sits nicely next to the main oven. As a pp said it makes them the same size.

See picture.

The oven/microwave is really good and cooks a roast really well. We definitely use both ovens when we’re cooking a roast or Xmas dinner etc.

We have two N90 pyrolytic slide and hides and I adore them. They are honestly wonderful.

You don't lose any heat opening and closing them, they are super clever with the way they circulate heat, and having the doors out of the way makes them so much safer.

Re: having to change programmes - yes, this is true, but it really isn't much of a faff. It's only if you start on standard fan, then want to go above 200. It is about 3 button presses and takes seconds. No bother at all.

I would never go back.

SunnyUpNorth · 19/01/2022 17:15

I’m completely convinced, thanks all. Think I’m still going to go for two actual ovens and a little microwave in a cupboard. My mum has a single oven and a combo oven and sometimes there are situations where I need to use the microwave when it’s in use as an oven! So think I’ll go full ovens. Thanks all, so helpful.

Words · 19/01/2022 17:25

I like mine but would love a second oven.

Their main flaw is the light. If you do a lot of grilling/roasting on a high heat, the glass covering quickly gets covered in irremovable black baked on stuff, dimming the light considerably. Plus the bulbs go. Its's now gone for a third time in 12 years and am putting off replacing it as it is fiddly and you have to use a special tool to grip and remove the covering.

Anjo2011 · 20/01/2022 15:41

Def recommend. I have one full size and on top a microwave/combi. Works really well, I find it easy to clean and maintain. Also went for neff induction and very happy with that too. I honestly don’t think you will be disappointed.

MazzleDazzle · 20/01/2022 19:09

That’s interesting @Words. My slide and hide ovens are 18 months old and have been rarely used (2nd home), but both bulbs are out.
