Wow. Ironing Island! Rightmove link

I LOVE this house, love it so much I'm trying to convince DH to view.

However, in my many many years of Rightmoving, I've never ever seen an ironing island. Not sure if it's genius or a bit bonkers! It's clearly a sturdy installation.

Was this a thing in years gone by?

Why would you want an ironing board stuck in the middle of your kitchen

Hebeee · 15/10/2021 21:22

It's a stunning house with a gorgeous garden and I'd happily live there.... but I'd have to get rid of the ironing island 😉 I'm another who doesn't do ironing anymore. I think we do still have an iron (somewhere), but haven't used it since buying our current house nearly four years ago 🙄

Love those clitoris lampshades though...need to find me some of those 😍

cabinfever102 · 15/10/2021 21:26

Lovely house shame about their terrible taste!

Oblomov21 · 15/10/2021 21:26

Ironing board is wierd. But the house is truely beautiful.

NoParticularPattern · 15/10/2021 21:37

Why would you do that?! When everyone knows that all you do is fold your clothes onto the aga and let her do your ironing for you?! It’s like the only reason I have one... Looks like I’m half bothered about the kids uniforms but with none of the effort of actually doing so.

I’m more concerned about their attachment to very very small woodburning stoves though

Starseeking · 15/10/2021 22:13

Surely that doubles up as a chopping board??? Waste of space otherwise.

Starseeking · 15/10/2021 22:13

I love the hat stand though!

StormyCornishSeas · 15/10/2021 23:07

I love that house! The worse thing about ironing is dealing with the ironing board so I rather like it being a permanent feature

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/10/2021 06:35

Surely the worst thing about ironing is that it's the most boring, time consuming chore in the world? I avoid 99.9% of all ironing - it either doesn't happen or I pay someone else to do it.

thegcatsmother · 16/10/2021 11:08

If those hats are actually in use, then a fairly senior RN Officer lives there.....

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 16/10/2021 11:25

@Wroxie

Based on the artwork, the red walls, and the clitoris lamps, the owner of this house is obviously some kind of feminist femme fatale sexy sex person and the ironing board island is ironic and used to serve oysters and champagne when her lovers are visiting.
Funny you should say that because I saw the gin plinth as some kind of sex-aid furniture.
DameMaureen · 16/10/2021 12:26

I'm more curious about the orgy pic on the wall 😂

pinkhampoppy · 16/10/2021 12:27

Did someone on MN tell the home owner to 'take in some ironing'?

StaplesCorner · 16/10/2021 14:42

You’d have to be quite tall and fairly athletic to use the ironing board as a plinth of penetration though … I imagine the person on it hanging on for dear life whilst banging their head on the metal strip Hmm

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 16/10/2021 14:59

My best guess would be it was an original feature that they’ve reinstated

Ajl46 · 16/10/2021 17:52

@RedRiverShore

Very old fashioned, most people don't iron nowadays
Surely anyone who wears shirts irons?
Tagcurious · 17/10/2021 08:22

I hate ironing but I can’t imagine walking around wearing unironed clothes. It would look so scruffy.

ChristmasPlanning · 18/10/2021 01:14

I would be covered in bruises from walking into it. It would need to be removed urgently!
