Wow. Ironing Island! Rightmove link

I LOVE this house, love it so much I'm trying to convince DH to view.

However, in my many many years of Rightmoving, I've never ever seen an ironing island. Not sure if it's genius or a bit bonkers! It's clearly a sturdy installation.

Was this a thing in years gone by?

OMG Look at that garden. The ironing island is cool too!

EekThreek · 15/10/2021 08:40

"sherry plinth" 😂

I've found my people!

SalsaLove · 15/10/2021 08:42

Gorgeous but I’d have to remove all the antlers. Do people actually think they look nice?

LavenderAskew · 15/10/2021 08:44

Where's the washing machine? Can you get integrated washing machines?

It's a gorgeous house but does seem like one that should have a utility room, can't imagine having to have clothes horses randomly around the place

Lifeinthescratcher · 15/10/2021 08:45

Its an eye sore Confused

Catnuzzle · 15/10/2021 08:48

Link doesn't work for me Confused

I love everything about that house apart from the island. It just looks ridiculous and you'd have to repair the floor when it was removed.

Apart from all the antlers on the walls, that's my ideal house - about 3x what I can afford though.
And the ironing board would have to go.

Lalliella · 15/10/2021 08:58

Never mind the ironing island, what’s with the antlers and that weird picture?

Staffy1 · 15/10/2021 08:59

Is there a socket on it or do you have to have an iron with an extremely long cord?

hotmeatymilk · 15/10/2021 09:03

Exactly this. It’s my dream house. I would make an offer in consideration of the work to remove the sherry plinth and repair the floor, I am prepared to accept the house for my budget of £400,000.

supercritter · 15/10/2021 09:04

My step mother has an ironing board that folds out of wall mounted cupboard in tv room

OakPine · 15/10/2021 09:04

Repurposed ironing board as a kitchen island.

What's next? WC repurposed as coffee table?

Uggh.

The weird pic is a reproduction of a Tamara de Lempicka - they seem to have a few.
UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 15/10/2021 09:11

I love the house but the cat trap would have to be moved. They'd prefer it to be closer to a window so they could stare out at the birds with superior expressions.

fizbosshoes · 15/10/2021 09:11

if it was actually for ironing it would be a complete PITA!
people coming in wanting food and tripping arse over tit over the flex.
And ironing has to be done in front of lightweight boring but bearable tv
Escape to the country - ok

golf- not ok, nothing will get ironed.

ohfook · 15/10/2021 09:13

Love the house, but as a person who never irons and relies on body fat to stretch out the creases, this would not be useful to me!

MiddlesexGirl · 15/10/2021 09:13

It's a great idea but it's in the wrong place (all ironing boards need a 50" TV in front of them) and it needs to be able to be hidden away easily.

blobby10 · 15/10/2021 09:17

fizbosshoes my thoughts exactly - why would you iron watching the Aga or shelves? Where's the TV?! And surely the ironing board will just retain all those cooking smells which will transfer to the clothes being ironed? I would use it as a space for food prep !

HunkyPunk · 15/10/2021 09:21

I think an ironing island is a genius idea, but not plonked in the middle of the kitchen! It needs its own space in a huge utility room (with tv, as a pp noted).
I live in Wiltshire and we don’t have antlers, btw Grin

LouLou789 · 15/10/2021 09:37

Never seen one of those before! And you know what would happen: it would end up with stuff all over it and teens would use it as a breakfast bar etc, Soon be knackered.

DragonflyFairy · 15/10/2021 09:41

I imagined an ironing island to be a beautiful unit all set up with places to store unironed laundry and all the accoutrements one needs to iron. In its own room or a utility room. Wasn't expecting a fixed ironing board in the middle of the kitchen! Grin

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/10/2021 09:43

It’s awful, ruins the kitchen.

Bluntness100 · 15/10/2021 09:44

Honestly that’s. Lovely house but that iron board would put me right off. It screams a woman’s place is in the kitchen getting the ironing done. Not for me.
