After a totally chaotic morning of us emptying the kitchen and my husband's office, we are settled into our rental!
There were 10 workmen on site when we left so hopefully there will be big changes over the next fortnight!

MissFritton65 · 10/11/2021 12:52

The room we left!

I love that @LivingInABuildingSite - defo better not to have two spice cupboards. I got DH down to one spice section of a drawer and have told him I'm chucking out any spices that don't get used for 6 months.

@MrsF (I can never seem to tag you), that view is gorgeous. Are you near enough to pop in and check progress?

We are only in the next village ( the one we actually previously lived in) so very close. We can actually walk it via the river but we may just stay here and use the free on site spa facilities!!

Callmejudith · 10/11/2021 13:14

Sounds heavenly!

@MissFritton65 how lovely to escape 😊

Builder has just confirmed I'm only paying VAT once. I've seen receipts and I'm paying trade price for all materials, so that's good.

My windows are being installed today. Nerve wracking 🙈

PoshWatchShitShoes · 10/11/2021 13:34

And there are 3 plasterers on site. Still waiting for kitchen floor screed to dry completely. Fingers crossed kitchen tiling can start Monday🤞

Hothammock · 10/11/2021 13:37

So frustrated. Sitting here waiting for my doors delivery. Chased at midday. It's been put off another week. And that pushes fitting to even later. This is just ridiculous.

MissFritton65 · 10/11/2021 13:38

It certainly is a relief to be out of the chaos! All are sliders are going in today so we'll go back later to have a look.

RebelGeek76 · 10/11/2021 13:42

Am so excited as worktops fitters have just left, they were here for less than an hour and thankfully didn't have issues getting the island worktop in. We've still got the flooring to finish at the snug end of the room and just had to order 2 more packs of planks as we underestimated how much wastage you get with herringbone but it's all looking fabulous. I'm off for a well earned spa break this weekend leaving DH with 2yo...I've only ever left her at nursery or with her dad for a few hours so I feel incredibly guilty but at the same time I'm looking forward to some me time and not having to think about extension work!

@RebelGeek76 that looks absolutely fantastic! Enjoy the spa break.

Hothammock · 10/11/2021 14:09

@RebelGeek76 that is so gorgeous!!

Callmejudith · 10/11/2021 14:44

@RebelGeek76 that is utterly fabulous! I love it! Enjoy your very well deserved spa break

@Hothammock ARRGGGHHHHH which doors were they?

I just had a call from someone at the sliding door company saying they're outside the house and need to see the opening but there is no answer....errr yes because we are at work. He sounded most put out that i suggested that someone should have rung and said they were coming. He's coming back at 7.30 tomorrow morning which is the same time as the builder is supposed to be here to finish the opening so that's much better

@Callmejudith aggggghhh another example of 1 step forward and 3 back. I don't understand why builders expect everyone to be able to drop everything when they need you to!

Hothammock · 10/11/2021 14:55

@Callmejudith 3 sets of French doors and one composite door. Literally all the doors to the build. Windows are even later. We are cold and drafty and irritated.

Callmejudith · 10/11/2021 15:31

That’s awful @Hothammock I would be in tears I think

OP posts:
LivingInABuildingSite · 10/11/2021 16:23

Hot hammock - that is awful! Any chance they might change again and come sooner?

RebelGeek- looking fab! Do you have a wine rack at one end and wine fridge at the other? Similar to what I’ve changed to.

MrsF - lucky you! Though I’m too much of a control freak to be away really.

So the kitchen guy came, I don’t exactly warm to him but he’ll get the job done which is all that matters really. He does have good advice and ideas and so much experience just somehow rubs me the wrong way.
Anyway, he’s going to redo the drawings and printouts and arrange another appt at the office that I’ll try and get DH to come to too, as he’s the cook really.

Also, the guys have taken down one bit of the temp back wall so I can see into the extension which helps me a lot. Does mean I have to remember they are there at 8am!

Sod’s law though, I don’t clean enough, not a good housewife, but cleaned all the kitchen counters, moved everything, etc this morning. Then they fiddled with the wooden wall and dust went everywhere id just cleaned! Back to not really bothering again 😂

Hothammock · 10/11/2021 16:33

@LivingInABuildingSite unfortunately no I don't think so. There is however every chance they delay even further. We really don't have any control over the progress of this. My only comfort is that we didn't pay a huge deposit so they aren't sitting on all our money.
I can't even threaten to walk away as what would I actually do. Joining another queue will just take even longer.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 10/11/2021 18:42

@Hothammock sorry to hear about your delays!! Agree, it's totally shit when you're beholden to a shoddy supplier!!

@RebelGeek76 beautiful 🤩 Such a massive difference to see a glossy shiny worktop!! Which one did you choose?

PoshWatchShitShoes · 10/11/2021 18:47

First window installed today 👏 They started late so only got one done 🤦🏼‍♀️

Too photo shows the new wood style and the bottom one shows the old upvc window with all of the chunky plastic bars.

Happy... until the next issue crops up 😂

That looks fab

OP posts:
Hothammock · 10/11/2021 19:06

@PoshWatchShitShoes gorgeous, massive difference. Your choice of bars looks so much better too.

And thanks for the sympathy. I take courage in seeing the progress of others and knowing we will eventually get there! The disappointing thing for me is that they didn't even bother calling to let me know.
How can I punish them?!!

LivingInABuildingSite · 10/11/2021 19:09

Just have to wish evil karma on them, like dropping their packed lunch in a puddle or something 😂

Very nice windows, definitely an improvement.
