Blimey to all! Exploding taps and low ceilings!!! Fingers crossed all solvable but who needs the bloody stress, really.
Nothing going on here this week, kitchen fitter 3 days overdue so far but we know he's good for it so not a big deal. Just waiting waiting.

nomoneytreehere · 16/11/2021 23:36

Posh I was coming on to say how fab your colour scheme is and then saw your update about the kitchen ceiling. What a nightmare, I hope they don’t have to take the ceiling down (although that is preferable to taking the floor up). Who’s fuck up is it?

And as for exploding taps, that sounds horrendous.

Architect has gone silent here…….

wonkylegs · 17/11/2021 09:13

I've been hiding away a bit as we've been facing yet more delays and watching others progress was getting me quite down.
Plasterer has finally appeared again today but told me we only have him for 3days and he's on his own so won't be able to finish and doesn't know when he's coming back.
We've been waiting a month from when he was supposed to be here (after the other delays) so funnily enough I lost my patience and may have got a bit shouty. I think most people think because I'm a petite blonde lady I'm fairly harmless but he looked fairly slightly terrified.
Waiting for the builder to phone me back with a solution but to say I'm pissed off is a bit of an understatement.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 17/11/2021 09:17

@nomoneytreehere oh goodness, I hadn't even thought about the new ceiling coming down. We definitely can't afford that...financially or timing wise. I just spoke to the builder, who said let's measure everything "before we panic"!!! Already panicking. I hope they can do something clever with the plinths and cornice.

Fuck though, as our ceiling were only 2.39m, so I wanted the units as high as possible. I just checked drawings and tall kitchen units were supposed to be 2.29m with a 6cm cornice on top, leaving a 4cm shadow gap.

Will come back here before drowning myself in a bath of gin. Actually, scrap that, where the fuck is my bath??! This is all too much. Never again!!! 😂 😭 😂 😭

PoshWatchShitShoes · 17/11/2021 09:19

Sorry to hear your plastered stresses @wonkylegs. How's your beautiful studio? Is it still ok for us all to move in?

Callmejudith · 17/11/2021 09:20

@wonkylegs I’m sorry you’re having a nightmare, plasterers seem to be like gold dust at the moment. I hope the builder comes up with a solution.

@PoshWatchShitShoes probably a silly question but do you have to have a shadow gap? Could the cornice not just touch the ceiling?

9.19 - waiting for fitters……

OP posts:
wonkylegs · 17/11/2021 09:33

@PoshWatchShitShoes I always panic about measuring stuff but usually there is a way around it 🤞if your fitter has enough brains

Ecthelion · 17/11/2021 10:02

I had a similar panic when they fitted our kitchen as while there was enough ceiling space, the steel beam came down way lower than we'd expected and fouled the top of the units. They trimmed the cornice down a little in that section and put it right under the beam. You'd never notice. Fingers crossed for you.

Callmejudith · 17/11/2021 10:32

RANT ALERT

Fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking useless fucking people. I am SO sick of people lying to me. Despite being told we are "first on the list" for the roof light fitter he is not here. He just rang me and said "we can come in 2 hours is that alright?"

The main guy there seems to think I'm his mate. I HATE HIM.

OP posts:
wonkylegs · 17/11/2021 10:49

@Callmejudith I am right there with you!
It's so frustrating.
I can just about cope with delays when people are upfront but lying really pisses me off and at the moment there seems to be a lot of it about using pandemic delays as a cover for lateness, incompetence, bad planning or possibly just being lazy arses

Callmejudith · 17/11/2021 11:44

Ok door installer is here. He's an independent fitter employed by loads of different firms so we're both having a good old moan.

Roof light fitters apparently coming at 1pm............................

Floor guy (who is a mate of ours) popped round and is happy with the screed and level of the floor. He'll start tomorrow afternoon and reckons it'll take 3/4 days.

wonkylegs · 17/11/2021 13:22

Plasterer is apparently pissed off that I've only brought him one cup of tea today. Frankly he's lucky he got that one!
Angry

LivingInABuildingSite · 17/11/2021 13:23

Good luck Callmejudith!

PoshWatch - any solutions yet for the units?

Wonky - hope the plasterer issue gets sorted.

Fairly quiet here today, just two guys finishing off fiddly bits of wall ready for the plasterer (hopefully!) to come tomorrow and Friday.

Need to pop round to rear neighbours to discuss approving our choice of height of fence, currently a 5ish foot fence, we’re suggesting either 7 or 8 foot, which sounds huge but will give them privacy as our patio is now raised up.
Plus we’re paying for it. So all they have to do is agree.
The builders have stuck some sample poles at the different heights for them to see.
Bit nervous about it as haven’t really met them before.

Whoa! I haven’t made any for any of my lot, they have their own kettle and look after themselves.

A friend of mine made bacon sarnies for hers regularly!

Callmejudith · 17/11/2021 13:27

Ok doors are in YEY!! There's something that needs to be done at the top on the outside but that's fine. He said don't open them for 3 days just to let them "bed in"

Rooflight dude on his way. COME ON.

Rooflight people finally turn up. They say they can't fit the thing because the builder hasn't built an upstand and it's not flat (supposed to be 5 degrees). I have literally no idea what that is, no one has mentioned it, two people from the rooflight company have seen the opening and no one has mentioned an upstand. I literally want to scream.

The rooflight guy said it's the builder's responsibility but he actually knows him personally and the builder owes him a favour so he said he's going to ring him now and make him send someone this afternoon or first thing tomorrow to sort it out. Then they can put in the rooflight. I've said the deadline is 12pm as that's when they are starting the floor.

I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo angry

OP posts:
Callmejudith · 17/11/2021 14:37

Ok rooflight John just rung me back and said he had a right go at the builder (whoop) and he is sending someone either tonight or if not first thing tomorrow to fix this. Then rooflight John will come back tomorrow morning.

wonkylegs · 17/11/2021 15:02

Oh no @Callmejudith I hate it when they play pass the buck. Fingers crossed they get it sorted for you in time.
I apparently have another plasterer coming tonight to see if he can finish the job. I did point out if he comes tonight it will be dark as the electrics are still only first fix....
I think rather than leave them to work it out I'll find a light and an extension cord.
I've also been informed they aren't sure exactly when the tiler is booked in so I'm now trying to get hold of him directly to find out.

LivingInABuildingSite · 17/11/2021 15:14

What a nightmare Callmejudith 😱 🤯

I really hope it gets sorted in time!

Callmejudith · 17/11/2021 15:18

@wonkylegs we had some in the dark plastering going on and he turned up with a work light so you should be ok.

Luckily the flooring guy is a good friend of ours so if I have to delay him slightly I can but I really really don't want to.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 17/11/2021 15:46

Hello lovelies - 2.5 hour site visit. Basically my tall kitchen units will be fitted to ceiling level. I wanted a gap, but can't be arsed any more.

New range is in place. After a wobble at first sight I now like it again.

Bath for my ensuite is apparently being delivered by next Monday.

Fire surround is now due a few days before Christmas 😠 So log burner not going to be installed before Christmas despite being ordered first week of August. The alternative is a different surround from a different supplier that's £500 more expensive 😠 Haven't decided what to do.

It's like a fucking rollercoaster isn't it??! 🎢 Bad news always follows good.

It's only polite @Callmejudith to forward the drinks invite for tonight 😂 The rooflight looks fab. Hope it gets installed smoothly tomorrow!!
