Enjoy 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
It does look good, it'll be even better when it's in the right place.

LivingInABuildingSite · 17/11/2021 15:49

@Callmejudith

Well it’s in the wrong place but it looks nice
Looking very stylish!
LivingInABuildingSite · 17/11/2021 15:50

@PoshWatchShitShoes

Hello lovelies - 2.5 hour site visit. Basically my tall kitchen units will be fitted to ceiling level. I wanted a gap, but can't be arsed any more.

New range is in place. After a wobble at first sight I now like it again.

Bath for my ensuite is apparently being delivered by next Monday.

Fire surround is now due a few days before Christmas 😠 So log burner not going to be installed before Christmas despite being ordered first week of August. The alternative is a different surround from a different supplier that's £500 more expensive 😠 Haven't decided what to do.

It's like a fucking rollercoaster isn't it??! 🎢 Bad news always follows good.

It's only polite @Callmejudith to forward the drinks invite for tonight 😂 The rooflight looks fab. Hope it gets installed smoothly tomorrow!!

I think I want units to the ceiling but they keep wobbling about having them actually touching, so who knows what I’ll end up with!
Callmejudith · 17/11/2021 16:05

Oh wow Posh that range!!! Beautiful

OP posts:
wonkylegs · 17/11/2021 16:05

@PoshWatchShitShoes
I know what you mean
Love the range
How annoying about the log burner
I am feeling it's a bit 1 step forwards at the moment and 2 backwards - it's frustrating as I do this for a living so I know I'm doing everything I can and when to call them on bullshit but it's still really annoying.
I'm starting to understand why my architect friend started his own building firm to run all his projects - they employ all their trades themselves rather than sub contracting.
I didn't think it made financial sense but I certainly can see the attraction atm.

nomoneytreehere · 17/11/2021 21:38

@Callmejudith on the home run! At least it's in the house.

@PoshWatchShitShoes I like the range. Is it the Elise? That's the one I'm thinking of as I can't afford a lacanche. I probably can't afford an Elise either with the meal the architect is making of the plans. It's such a scary process. My husband keeps saying knobby things like "I don't want to do it unless we can afford to replace all the sofas. And everyone's bed. And the dining table. And literally everything we own. And both our cars". And I'm thinking, yes let's not do it at all and keep the crappy sofas and the kitchen we can barely fit in so you can have a new car. Knob.

Love your floor, is it actual limestone or porcelain?

I would get the fire surround you wanted originally. It's annoying but £500 is a lot of money. Is the £500 more one as nice? Anyhow you are nearly there!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 18/11/2021 04:05

Morning - yup, not quite 4am 🤦🏼‍♀️ Awake thinking about fireplaces and kitchen colours. 25 sleeps till we move back in!!

Hi @nomoneytreehere - yes, it's the Elise. I think it was £2.4K, so a good £3k saving on the Lacanche and I like that it's UK made. Shop around on price. We bought a lot of our appliances from Appliance City and got a multi buy discount.

The floor is a limestone-look porcelain that I can Cif/Flash and steam mop to my hearts content 😂 I looked at so many samples. Really happy with this. It's so much nicer down than it was on the tiny square sample. It's Mandarin Stone Ramon Buff.

Callmejudith · 18/11/2021 07:19

I was awake at 4am too praying the builder turns up at 8.30. How long to build an upstand do we reckon? Surely it can’t be that long.

StrongArm · 18/11/2021 07:55

I'm feeling quite murderous today because the plans seem not to have been finished yet. I have left this to dp because he asked whether he could do the project managing as I have a mad, full time job where I really cannot be talking to architects and builders during the day. He lost his job in Covid and is now running his own business which isn't making money and has a deadline of January before he has to go and find work. So rather than me paying a project manager, he said he would do it (as he's not contributing at the moment due to said job) except fucking months we have no plans as between him and the architect, every single version that comes out is wrong. It really is not that hard.

and this morning he tells me that him and the architect have just agreed we should resubmit the wrong plans to the council because it doesn't really matter what it looks like on the inside, it's the principle of rebuilding the 2 extensions that the council cares about. I mean yes but in all my life, I have never submitted deliberately wrong plans because no one could be arsed to fix them. It is really not that hard!

have requested a call with architect but they can only do working hours so am about to pen vicious email to them both! and quite frankly if this is project managing, I'd rather pay for someone else to do it!

ARGH

StrongArm · 18/11/2021 07:59

@Callmejudith I had to google what is an upstand Grin. I can't believe it will take very long!

sluj · 18/11/2021 08:22

I am on day 4 of the week off I took to complete the painting of the new extension room. I reckon I have painted about 3 square feet so far 😒 The kitchen itself isn't coming till the end of January and I just can't get motivated to do the final preparations to the empty room. What a waste of annual leave 😒

MissFritton65 · 18/11/2021 10:11

I'm sorry to hear about the frustrations and incompetence that some of you are putting up with. We are moving forward here but after 7 months of this madness, I know something will go wrong and we'll be doing our 2 steps back again!
All our sliders (3 sets) are now in and the roofers were due today but it's raining so not sure that will happen and I'm off site so have no idea!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 18/11/2021 10:17

Hope the builder showed @Callmejudith!! Don't think it should take him too long. Hopefully he remembers the incline.

Sympathy @StrongArm. That's tough when he's meant to be doing the project manager role.

@sluj don't be hard on yourself.. it's really hard to motivate on work days off, as it's supposed to be for rest and recuperation not a whole loads of other stress. Can you grab a book and go sit in a cafe for a clean break and then get back to it?

Callmejudith · 18/11/2021 10:31

MrsF we need a slider pic! Fingers crossed that you continue a positive stretch!

@StrongArm that would infuriate me. Don’t let him get away with bring crap!

@sluj I agree, don’t be hard on yourself enjoy a relaxing day

Progress update. Builder was here at 8.30 and then upstand is in YEY. I now cannot get hold of rooflight guy - so frustrating. Hoping he’s on another job and can’t answer the phone or something.

Flooring arrived and it is beautiful, quite dark but I think the room being south facing will mean it shows all the lovely tones and not the dirt. I’m also after a colourful rug

Hothammock · 18/11/2021 10:44

Amazing, my exploding tap situation is sorted and the solution is much nicer than the original plan. Every little step moves us forward!

It's all so exhausting, I do feel for you @sluj, it's not great using your leave for this and just wears you out even more. If you can't nip out for a break, use just eat to bring you a nice coffee!

wonkylegs · 18/11/2021 11:43

@StrongArm sorry to hear your having a bad time with your architect.
To be honest part of what they say is true - planning only cares what's on the outside (unless it's listed and that's a whole other ball game) so inside can be tweaked after planning as long as it doesn't affect the external elevations however in practice tweaking the inside usually affects windows etc
@MissFritton65 - agree, we need to see the sliders
@sluj - I think the dullness of decorating can get to the best of us. It will be worth it in the end but urgh.
@Callmejudith yay to the upstand hope the roof light guy has appeared
@Hothammock yay to the taps, exploding things sounded very stressful, so really glad you got it sorted.
I think we have a plasterer solution but now the tiler says he's booked up and has fitted us in as first job in January.
Had another guys out to measure up today but not sure he'll be much quicker.
Looks like the teenagers that are sleeping out there for Christmas may be semi camping. As long as there is heat and light I'm sure it'll be fine just annoying.

Callmejudith · 18/11/2021 12:02

Excellent news on the taps!

Can't believe we're at 994 posts and nowhere near Christmas. I'll make a new thread....
