I apologise in advance I am going to be really annoying today.

DH has confirmed worktop installers have arrived. They have been there 30 minutes so far and no calls to say we are missing some vital piece.

@Callmejudith that looks great! Another step towards the end!

sluj · 04/11/2021 14:39

That's a lovely worktop ! Which one is it?

Callmejudith · 04/11/2021 15:02

I'm delighted.

It's from Wren, called Aspen Ice 20mm thick quartz

Gorgeous worktop @Callmejudith. I love the white with navy 🤩

Yup, slightly obsessed with pantry storage. I ordered labels for jars and jars of stuff. Don't yet own the jars though or any shelves 😂

LivingInABuildingSite · 04/11/2021 16:19

Wow Callmejudith!

PoshWatch - lol, I’ll be like that as I get closer I’m sure.

I follow This Girl Can Organise on FB. And am midway through a book (on kindle so it doesn’t clutter up my house!) called Decluttering At The Speed of Life. Have watched many a Marie Kondo episode too.
Not that you can tell any of that from the state of my house!

LivingInABuildingSite · 04/11/2021 16:20

Oh, and building update, nearly forgot, they’ve finished laying the DPM and under floor insulation, it’s all silver on top so looks like a cool disco floor 🕺😂

Finally not freezing in the back, so hopefully that will help the rest of the house warm up 🤞

I've just spent a constructive 40 minutes on the phone to DIY kitchens talking about our shopping basket. He has taken out lots of stuff the previous "support" helper put in and explained where some of the other fillers are to be used. DH wants to check it all again now but I am impatient just to click the order button.
I do need to check the cup handles for the drawers though. What width of drawer do you think needs 2 handles? 600? 800? I'm finding it hard to visualise. Thanks

Callmejudith · 04/11/2021 17:58

What size are the handles @sluj? I have 600mm drawers here I could try on. The others are 1000mm

OP posts:
sluj · 04/11/2021 18:01

Thank you @Callmejudith
They are 92mm long apparently. My longest drawers are 800cm wide

sluj · 04/11/2021 18:05

Anyone got any advice on kitchen waste disposals? I am a bit embarrassed to say I don't know what an air switch is and they all seem to have them now. In my head it's a bit like the fancy flush I have on one of my toilets that you wave your hand in front of but I don't think it can really be like that ( can recommend it for toilets though)

PoshWatchShitShoes · 04/11/2021 18:58

@sluj I've got 800mm drawers either side of my range cooker. I'm using 2 cup handles similar size to yours on each.

Yes, I just bought an Insinkerator from Screwfix. Quite a basic model, as that's all we need. Our vendor put one in our old kitchen, which was quite handy. I wasn't going to get one in the new kitchen, but it's such a pain scraping dishes and scooping crap out of the water drainer in the Airbnb. So I've bought a new one. The air button is just a silver round button that you have on the worktop near the tap.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 04/11/2021 19:16

@sluj Forgot to say that I think 2 handles on a 600mm drawer may look a bit squashed.

I've got 2 x 500mm drawers and 1 cup handle in each is perfect.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 04/11/2021 19:19

What do your evenings consist of? Mine is staring a fabric swatches and trying to decide colours. So confused 😭 I've got till Monday to confirm all of the room paint colours...and really need to decide fabrics before paint colours. Bloody hate this!!

@Callmejudith loving the quartz, I think that sounds like the one we're having so it's nice to have an idea what it looks like in place.

@PoshWatchShitShoes would you mind sharing a pic of your 800mm drawers with 2 handles, I'm going back and forth about whether to put 1 or 2 on our 800mm. DH thinks one will be fine as we're likely to end up only pulling one when opening.

I'm just chilling with glass of prosecco celebrating the end of my work week, neither of us can be arsed to do extension work tonight after putting 2yo to bed. Got more 2nd fix plumbing and electrics being done tomorrow. Worktop company called to book our fitting for Tues but we've asked to delay a few more days to finish flooring and put all end panels back in, we could probably get them done for Tuesday but didn't want to put pressure on ourselves, just hoping we can get fitted by end of next week.

MissFritton65 · 04/11/2021 19:54

@sluj as I understand it an air switch is controlled by air pressure to avoid touching an electrical switch with wet hands.

@PoshWatchShitShoes those blue fabrics are beautiful; I love big floral patterns.

Indecisivelurcher · 04/11/2021 22:21

New fridge freezer arrived today and I absolutely love it, after a small Under counter fridge it's lovely to have space for family of 4. But, dh really dislikes it and how much smaller it makes our kitchen. Our kitchen IS smaller because of the work we've done. That was one of the compromises. Don't quite know what we can do. Going to bed feeling a bit down.

MissFritton65 · 04/11/2021 22:32

@Indecisivelurcher we are all having to make compromises every day sadly; I'm sure we'd all love to be able to have exactly what we want in our projects .....but there is only so much available space and money! We are all doing our very best to make our new spaces the best for our families.
Don't be down.......you have a space much better for your family than that you started with!

Indecisivelurcher · 05/11/2021 07:09

Got up early this morning and draw up an alternative kitchen idea. I think dh's issue might be the Fridge freezer being right there when you open the kitchen door. Could move it to the other end of the run instead.

I purposefully didn't plan it there because I wanted a run of worktop open into the new back room, but the kitchen isn't coming until Wed or Thursday so we can try it out for a couple of days in each location before committing. I think we'd have one 800 cupboard we're not using and need to buy a 300 cupboard instead.

Realise this is hard to follow! Photo and professional drawing of where the fridge is now. My pencil drawing of where we could put it.

Oh sorry hit the wrong thing, so here is what we could do instead, basically put the fridge freezer where the old black freezer and paint samples are in photo 1.
