My next task is to plan the inside of this area before the chippy comes today...

Update on the fridge, moved it, it was terrible, moved it back, slid it over ever slightly to where it will be, and it's best there. Dh is happier. I still love it.

Callmejudith · 05/11/2021 09:59

Glad you’ve sorted the fridge dilemma! Love the look of your cupboard is that going to be a pantry?

It's absolutely freezing in our extension, the door opening is just plywood at the moment and I'm wondering whether we can add anything to do it try and hold in a bit more warmth? Maybe even some tarpaulin would help.

Plumber due at 1 so hopefully by the end of the day I'll be able to use the dishwasher and wash up. Weirdly I can't find the plug for the sink anywhere!

DH's pro cook ordered has just been delivered - a huge box. God knows what's in there.

@Callmejudith, our builders put some big sheets of insulation board behind the plywood which helped keep the cold out.

LivingInABuildingSite · 05/11/2021 12:18

I’m worried about the fridge sticking out a lot too. The one I’m looking at is something like 78cms deep. Compared to the 600 units that seems huge. Way off getting it yet anyway.

The floor insulation is down, and they are laying the pipe work for the UFH today. Meant I had to 100% commit to where the island and units will be as no heating under them. Once the screed is down and dry I am definitely marking out stuff on the floor and walls. I want to run through an average day and see if I’ve remembered to include homes for plates, cutlery, glasses, etc.

I’m also hoping that as the back is now secure, and will soon be walkable on (maybe even Wednesday next week?) that we could Poss take down some of the hoarding across the original back that we’ve had up since April 2019! Will mean builders actually IN the house instead of outside though.

Callmejudith · 05/11/2021 12:22

That’s exciting for the hoarding @LivingInABuildingSite

DH has ordered a load of bamboo cutlery and spice drawer inserts I’m lol as I’ve also bought them Smile

Afternoon - brrrr to the chill today!!

Heading to site shortly for a meeting. The builder is running through project timeline and financials. Which is good, cos I still don't have an up to date spreadsheet of what I'm spending 🙈

Glad you got your fridge position sorted @Indecisivelurcher

That's exciting on the screed @LivingInABuildingSite. Feels kind of no way back when that happens. Ours is nearly dried and they're starting tiling in kitchen on Monday 👏

@Callmejudith glad you've got your DH in on the "kitchen storage solutions" 😂

Indecisivelurcher · 05/11/2021 13:50

Yeah sorry all all the fridge comments early doors, think the pressure off all the decisions is a bit much...

MissFritton65 · 05/11/2021 15:09

We have a doorway and stairs to our new bedroom!

Callmejudith · 05/11/2021 16:14

Yey for stairs!!!

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 05/11/2021 17:04

Such cute stairs @MissFritton65 👏

PoshWatchShitShoes · 05/11/2021 17:07

Fuck fuck fuckity fuck!!! Just finished the meeting with the builder. Extra costs at the moment are standing at £24k 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Haven't told DH yet, but that's goodbye to the fitted pantries and curtains (other than bedrooms and living room curtains and blinds, which I had made a few months ago).

Really upset. I had no idea it was going to be so much. I was expecting around £6.5k.

sluj · 05/11/2021 17:13

@PoshWatchShitShoes
Oh no, go and open some wine quick Shock

MissFritton65 · 05/11/2021 17:21

@PoshWatchShitShoes OMGShock! Definitely time for the gin!

Callmejudith · 05/11/2021 17:45

Fuck @PoshWatchShitShoes that's a hell of a lot of money. Is that costs already incurred or stuff that needs to be done? Get the wine/gin/vodka anything open

OP posts:
LivingInABuildingSite · 05/11/2021 17:51

Ouch!

Indecisivelurcher · 05/11/2021 18:07

Oh blimey.
Deep breaths.
What needs doing now, what can go on the back burner...?

We've got working radiators and a loo!

Callmejudith · 05/11/2021 18:58

We just had our first Friday night takeaway in the kitchen sitting at the breakfast bar Smile. I made everyone use a placemat and put all the takeaway on a bit of cardboard.

Plumber got hardly anything done ggggrrrr so is back tomorrow morning

sluj · 05/11/2021 19:03

@Callmejudith
Wow, I can't wait for that day!! Enjoy

Callmejudith · 06/11/2021 09:01

@PoshWatchShitShoes just checking in. Did you get to speak to DH?

Plumber back today. Please please please let me have a working dishwasher by the end of the day!

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 06/11/2021 09:22

Morning @Callmejudith you must have read my mind. I literally just told DH when he got back from the gym.

He asked what the overspend is and I said £24k. He then said "well, lets get it done"...and he's gone off to shower. Damn it, I definitely should have said £30k 😂

Work is manic, but I need to spend Monday morning actually reconciling everything I've spent!! And crossing my fingers there isn't some massive overspend elsewhere.

Thanks for asking x

nomoneytreehere · 06/11/2021 09:41

Omg posh that is what is terrifying me about our planned build. You go through all this tender stuff trying to find a decent builder and end up convincing yourself to spend more than you want to to get everything you want and then some fucker drops nearly £30k on you as "overspend". As if you just have that in loose change down the back of the sofa. Is that in addition to your contingency?

Sorry for all the questions but have you worked out what your m2 spend is?
