If you are thinking of repainting your kitchen cupboards

Then here is a thread to document my progress!
I have boring melamine cupboard doors which a a dirty cream colour. Can't afford a new kitchen so after much research I decided to repaint them. I was inspired by this picture on Pinterest:
I chose Rustoleum kitchen cupboard paint in Cotton for the top doors, and Ink for the bottom.
I've almost done the top ones - see pic for a sort of before and after!
Handles are from Amazon.
Going to start the bottom doors tonight! When they're done I'm thinking of covering the worktop in DC Fix - have a few samples which I might need some MN help with!

I did mine a few weeks back from a oak colour to a off white colour.
Just used. B&Q's pen cupboard paint on top of the cupboards which were laminate
Picked out a colour that matched one of the tiles.
It looks brilliant and I impressed myself
I didn't sand them just gave them a good clean with elbow grease and took them to the garden to do.

Loving this thread for inspiration. How did you all deal with doors/hinges that were no longer working properly - did you replace them?

ancientgran · 16/09/2021 19:40

I'm a bit of a cheat. Took the doors and drawer fronts off and got a local spray shop to prep and spray them. I did the trim. A local handyman did new work tops and tiles. It was a cheap makeover.

Is it a Howdens kitchen @Cuddlywaterfall???
Great idea
Looks good @beccy11

Cuddlywaterfall · 16/09/2021 20:08

@spongedog so far all the hinges have been fine. The original carcasses were actually here when we bought the house 9 years ago, I think they were pretty good quality so have lasted really well. We just replaced the doors when we moved in (and the worktop as the previous one was a weird salami-like red).
I honestly don't remember where the doors were from, we just chose them from a catalog our builder had. I never really liked them but STBXH was keen.

I just noticed this. I can't believe I have reached middle age without a gin shelf!! It's all I need in my life right now Grin. If anyone's interested I find a nice Macon Villages goes very well with a spot of decoration Wine

No pictures but I’ve just done my kitchen in clothes cream rust oleum and it’s fantastic!

Two tins did our whole kitchen with multiple coats (taking very dark brown cupboards to light)

Need to get some new handles now but so happy with how it turned out … Just need to think about what to do about the horrible mushroom brown floor the ex owners put in

Well done @Miserablewithweight ! Would love to to see pics? The Rustoleum does last well doesn't it? I got my handles on Amazon but there are loads on eBay as well. There is also a very nice but pricey website called Simply Door Handles (I think) where you can get ideas.
