Gazundered day before exchange

We were all on track to be exchanging this week with completion on for the end of next week. We were waiting on our buyer's searches etc for some time and they finally came through earlier this week.

Call this morning from the estate agent. Buyer has dropped their offer by £15k due to 'immediate issues flagged in the survey' with no details about what these are, no copy of the report and no estimations on how that figure has been calculated. We've said we'd need to see the report to understand the basis for their drop (and to potentially renegotiate... No promises). But they've been reluctant to do this and says they'd be happy to proceed with exchange tomorrow still should we agree to the £15k Hmm

Fuming does not cover feelings right now Angry!!

@Hungry675tf

So relieved for you OP.

TAKE THE PLUGS

Assuming it is legal take the lightbulbs, especially all the annoying non-standard ones that you have to go out of your way to replace. 😄

Don't blame the player, blame the game.

CaveMum · 02/09/2021 14:42

Personally I'd be sprinkling cress seeds in the living room carpet that spell "C F" in large letters...

Atalune · 02/09/2021 14:54

Plant bulbs in the grass that spell put wankers.

Atalune · 02/09/2021 14:55

*Spells out

Stick some Daffodil bulbs in now saying cunt or similar. Front lawn.

@cstaff

I hate the fact that they got 5k even if it didn't come out of your pocket. Cheeky feckers. Enjoy your new home 🏡
Yes the principle of someone caving to their demands due to desperation really riled me too. However, my partner has reminded me that I have to see the bigger picture, that it was their prerogative to offer it (we certainly didn't ask, nor expect it) and they wouldn't have offered if they couldn't find the funds.

Also we have already thought that we would like to give 'up the chain' a bottle of wine or something to say thank you for stepping in (need to pester the estate agent to pass on details or a gift in someway).

Great update OP - good luck with the rest of the move and I hope you have many happy years in your new home.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/09/2021 15:09

It's been a while since I bought a house and it was without a chain anyway so I'm just clarifying in my mind - was this the sellers of the house you were buying or further up than them who so kindly gave your CF buyers the £5k?

Fantastic that you held firm and it's all going through though - and yes, I think the best "revenge" is that they don't get a clean house nor a "welcome present"

Me too. Rewarding people for bad behaviour is awful.

Hope the move goes well @BenjiCat. Don’t worry about leaving the place clean.

FreeBritnee · 02/09/2021 15:19

Oh great result!!! Let’s be fair to the FTBers. This is a shit time to buy as houses are at an all time high plus the people at the top could obviously afford it. So sounds like a win all round.

thisplaceisapigsty · 02/09/2021 15:28

Glad to read your update - congratulations and enjoy your new home!

LakieLady · 02/09/2021 15:30

I'm another who's pissed off that the CFs got £5k. I'd probably have been pissed off if they'd got 50p off, tbh.

I also think these short intervals between exchange and completion must make things more stressful. I've lived in the same house for 28 years, and I'm used to having 4 weeks to get sorted between exchange and completion.

I'd better start having a clear out soon, I hope to move next summer ...

arootintootingoodtime · 02/09/2021 15:33

Yeah, it would annoy me too, but I'd forget all about it once you're in your lovely new home tomorrow - good luck with the packing (corkscrew and wine in the essentials box).

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 02/09/2021 15:33

Great stuff @BenjiCat enjoy your new home!

ill add - prawns in the curtain poles!

Let's Be Fair to the FTBers. The only people who have not acted fairly in this case ARE the FTBs who have lied, cheated and held the Op to ransom on the day they were due to exchange. They are a pair of rancid lowlifes and a pox on them and their amoral parents.

Good luck with the move Op, hope you are very happy in your new home.

What a shame you won't have the time now to give the house a clean.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 02/09/2021 15:41

Op says it was the "top of the chain" who gave the CFs the £5k.
TheHouseILiveIn · 02/09/2021 15:49

As there's such a short time between exchange and completion there's no time to let the house get dirty Sad

Leave a turd in the toilet

Malbecfan · 02/09/2021 15:54

Great news OP and well done for holding your nerve and being so dignified. I would be inclined to be petty as they have made your life miserable and do some of the things suggested above.

Sally872 · 02/09/2021 15:58

Excellent result OP.

It is a bit annoying they got 5k but you're right to look at bigger picture.

Rannva · 02/09/2021 15:59

Call their bluff and tell them no.

Our seller tried to charge us a bunch extra for "carpets and curtains." We just said no - what was she going to do, refuse to sell the house to us?

She backed down silently.

Don't give these people an inch.

TeeBee · 02/09/2021 16:01

Now to think of ways to get revenge 😉

ArrrMeHearties · 02/09/2021 16:01

So glad you've finally managed to exchange at last

Rannva · 02/09/2021 16:01

Absolutely well done for holding firm!

The more people do that, the less they'll try chancing it. They'll only end up messing things up for themselves in the end.
