Support thread - the countdown to June 30th.... will we /won’t we make it???

So next week is June and the date is looming large! Wiltshire council are being particularly slow and searches not due back till 14th. Offer accepted early March.

36 days and counting between me moving house and a new kitchen and me moving house and saving hard to buy a kitchen in about 2 years time.

Anyone else being to feel the desperation kicking in just to all it all done and dusted!

Many congratulations to everyone who progressed today and hang in there for those still waiting.

@Livingintheclouds - sorry to read your update. Does this mean the house has fallen through or just delayed?

Gettingonabitnow · 25/06/2021 05:46

Congrats to everyone with positive news!

I’m still in the crap news camp, it’s a lonely place! I’m almost past caring, it is so complicated but there is literally nothing else to try and buy in the market so so we are stuck. X

RumblingTumTumTum · 25/06/2021 08:30

For my sins @Didicat we are selling 2 properties (an old flat I had from ages ago and a house which is in the middle of nowhere and no longer convenient) and moving to one bigger one. That was the first sale (the house). The other sale and purchase are still in progress! So we've moved the whole of that place into storage and moved into the flat - I have my fingers crossed the next move is quick as we have my kids back from university, the dog plus dp's dcs visiting sporadically and the flat is not big enough for us all!

We had booked the movers for the house in advance in the hope we would exchange/complete by 30 June so we were lucky really

HumourReplacementTherapy · 25/06/2021 08:31

The vendors left the house in a disgusting state. I spent 6 hours I didn't have cleaning the disgusting contents of their kitchen and fridge/freezer. Their cutlery drawer (built in) didn't looked like it had ever been cleaned.
They are supposed to leave it clean due to Covid AngryAngryAngry
We've downsized. From a 6 bed Victorian villa over 3 floors. I cleaned every inch of it before we moved out into temp rental. It took days and I paid a cleaner to do it with me.
I'm so annoyed at them. I'm knackered and we've not moved in yet.

Didicat · 25/06/2021 10:08

@HumourReplacementTherapy this is my biggest worry is loads of cleaning before we can even start! Will go and get extra cleaning products! I’ll also bump the hoover to load number 1 to go to the house.

I’m currently trying to work out what needs to go to the new house and what should stay as we will be there most days and evenings. Then going back to the rental to sleep and keep the cats company for the first two weeks.

Hoping for lots more positivity!

I’ve just had an email from our solicitor saying the buyers at the bottom of the chain now won’t exchange until Tuesday…. I’ve now thrown my toys out of the pram entirely.

Panda368 · 25/06/2021 10:25

The solicitors are refusing to exchange before they receive the funds? Is this normal?

Cocoaone · 25/06/2021 10:49

Do they mean the deposit @Panda368? Or funds from the mortgage company?

Didicat · 25/06/2021 10:54

@Panda368 you can’t exchange unless you have ALL of the funds you need to complete the sale so if you have all of the deposit and nothing coming from equity from your sale then you could go ahead, but then you may get stuck with two properties if someone below you drops out.

Unfortunately the bottom of the chain holds all the cards with regards to exchange.

So are they suggesting exchange and complete on the same day?

OP posts:
Panda368 · 25/06/2021 10:57

@Cocoaone I think they mean the mortgage funds.

I sent a really shitty email straight to our agents to get them to do some digging and apparently the guy is actually just too busy and is just refusing to do it.

I feel like I’m being held hostage repeatedly by this dickhead who has taken on too much work.

Fucking furious

caringcarer · 25/06/2021 11:06

@didicat which website can give you estimated search times? I have not heard of one.

Panda368 · 25/06/2021 11:08

@Didicat they are suggesting exchange the day before we complete - so Tuesday and complete Wednesday. But I have no trust that what this solicitor says will happen will happen.

Apparently all the mortgage funds are coming in on Monday for the bottom of the chain purchase so it’s not a deposit issue he is waiting until he has all of it in place before exchange.

My understanding was always that exchange - usually that was when solicitors requested funds from the banks and completion happens when the full amount clears from the bank. and it was the deposit that you needed clear with the solicitor before exchange?

Starseeking · 25/06/2021 11:11

I used this one:

@caringcarer

The table scrolls up and down but it’s not obvious on a phone.....

Which council are you looking for?

OP posts:
Didicat · 25/06/2021 11:13

@Panda368 maybe they are worried the bank won’t get the money to them on the day and do t want to be liable for any penalty......

TheABC · 25/06/2021 12:33

Hi all.

Jumping in here as I need people who are going through the same crazy process.

-We found out last Tuesday everything was in place and could we exchange on the 29th? . Since that saved us ££££ on stamp duty, of course we said yes.

  • Removal people cannot be hired anywhere in our current area or the new one. We are moving 250 miles away. DH's family has magnificently stepped up. His brother and father have done two trips so far in a Luton van and we have another two van loads planned for Monday. We get the keys on Tuesday. I might be able to relax after that!
10YellowTulips · 25/06/2021 13:47

Completed!

I'm so relieved, it doesn't quite feel real at the moment.

I've got the keys and heading over after I pick up DD from school so I guess it will hit me when I'm inside.

Keeping everything crossed for those of you still waiting.

Didicat · 25/06/2021 14:32

Hooray @10YellowTulips - very exciting! What time did you get the keys?

I’m trying to decide what our first meal in the new house should be but I think it will end up being pizza in the oven.

OP posts:
TheABC · 25/06/2021 15:49

Congratulations, @10YellowTulips!

Panda368 · 25/06/2021 16:06

After this mornings disappointment we have decided we just have to get on with it. Dp has been ringing round for Luton vans and currently can’t find one especially as by not exchanging today we have lost our potential slot with the movers.. so who knows how we will be getting everything the 2 miles up the road on Wednesday.

I may be pregnant but I am definitely having a glass of wine tonight… I’m never moving again.

Noseylittlemoo · 25/06/2021 16:23

My first post on MN and have been watching this one with empathy!
We accepted offer on our flat 1st Feb , offered accepted on a house 23rd March...then got gazumped a week later. Found and offered on another house the next day - they had had a buyer but she had withdrawn so we filled a gap to complete the chain. Thought everyone was ready to exchange 1st week of June ....then our buyer (FTB) said she wanted a survey and had booked one for 30th June!!!!!we objected saying she should have organised earlier as the chain had been complete since 31st March. She said she wanted a survey to decide if she was going to go ahead with the purchase so managed to get it brought forward. After an anxious couple of weeks we finally exchanged yesterday and complete on Monday (28th), which is 7 years to the day of my first property purchase!

Didicat · 25/06/2021 16:59

So in my usual style of worrying I emailed the solicitors to check NatWest has sent the money for Monday. It has arrived. So why can I still not relax.....

Welcome @TheABC and @Noseylittlemoo

Any other good news people?

OP posts:
Cruddles · 25/06/2021 19:27

A lot of empathy for people here. We had in offer on our house in January and offered on another place in February. The chain grew to be 7 properties. In that time we had buyers pull out and were immediately replaced with other buyers. The aim from late May was to complete 23rd June. 11th June becomes the exchange date. Oh wait, it will be the 14th. On the 14 solicitor at the bottom of the chain is missing info, cannot believe it as they've been telling us for 3 months they're ready to go. Takes them until 17th to get it resolved. Attempt to exchange on 18th, solicitor at top of chain realises they're missing something, don't worry it's only a small document, easy to fix. DW has meltdown at this point. 21st should be exchange, oh wait, she solicitor at top of chain never got missing document on Friday, exchange fails again. I have meltdown this time. DW and i resolve ourselves that move won't happen and start making plans to fix up current house. Exchange goes through on 22nd and we complete 23rd.

Movers dropped out on 11th. On 12th book the biggest space at storage place. We're a family of 4 so have loads of stuff. Move stuff on our car for a week. Then hire medium size van for a week to gradually move everything except big furniture into storage. Then hire the van one size down from Luton van for moving day. Just squeeze it into large van + medium van + 3 cars. DW and i with help from DSIL & DBIL manage to get out of house by midday and start into new place from 2pm. I have yesterday and today off, am non stop moving things into new house from storage unit.

Never have i been so stressed in my life. The system unnecessarily creates this situation and i don't understand why it exists the way it does.

gelatodipistacchio · 25/06/2021 20:21

My sellers have continued to string me along. Today they emailed to offer a suggestion should we not complete which was entirely nonsensical, almost to the point of being insulting. (It was a proposal to rearrange parts of our agreement, with the result that I would be in exactly the same financial position, still £13k out of pocket due to missing the stamp duty holiday).

I'm honestly quite cross about the whole thing and I think at this stage they are just messing me about. I'm viewing another property that I could buy outright tomorrow. It's not half as lovely, but if I can prevail in the bidding war and speed to completion, I would be able to lead a much calmer life after this absolute shit show.

Didicat · 25/06/2021 20:50

So we are f*cked, the people we are buying off and now all self isolating till next Friday. So the house can’t be cleared, and they can’t move out.

I don’t know if we have a Covid clause at all, luckily we do have the money to pay the stamp duty but it was already allocated to a new kitchen plan.

Supposedly completing Monday, we’ve already exchanged. The EA let us know after 5:45 so our solicitors were already closed for the day so got a whole weekend of stress of the unknown.
