Would this blue kitchen put you off buying a house?

We're in the process of getting a new kitchen from Howdens and like the look of Fairford Blue. We're not planning on moving any time soon, but we don't think this is our forever home either and may consider moving at some point down the line (perhaps in five years time). Would this colour put you off buying a house? We really like it, but would also be happy going with a more neutral colour. Not sure what to do, so your thoughts (either way) would be very welcome. Thanks! Here's a link to the kitchen on YouTube:

That’s gorgeous! I’ve just had mine done By Howdens same range but in sage ! I love it !! The quality is fab ! X

Bloodyhamabeads · 11/03/2021 14:00

I’m not keen on it tbh- it’s just a little too bright. And it sounds like you might be having doubts, as you’ve asked the question.
Completely up to you though, if you like it, get it. If you’re looking to sell soon, neutral might be better.

MyHouse2011 · 11/03/2021 14:09

A blue kitchen would attract me to a house. My mums kitchens have always been blue, 50+yrs.

HopeHappy · 11/03/2021 14:10

I like it, so it wouldn't put me off.

At the end of the day, you're going to be living in it for now, so do what you want with it. It's neutral enough to be perfectly liveable for someone, even if it's not to their taste. A future owner could always just replace or re-wrap it if they really hated it, but it shouldn't put them off.

We bought a house with solid wood shaker cabinets from the mid 1990s. It's an absolute bugger to clean as dust and grime gathers in the corners of the inset panel on the door, but it looks pretty presentable still.

Workinghardeveryday · 11/03/2021 14:10

Sorry I don’t like the colour of that kitchen, I suppose if I was 50/50 over that and another house which didn’t have a blue kitchen I would pick the other

woodbeez55 · 11/03/2021 14:15

I love it! And agree with others that you should choose what you'd like to live with for the next 5 years or more. New owners can always change the colour in the future.

Porridgeoat · 11/03/2021 14:23

It’s nice colour but I HATE shaker style

Stationfork · 11/03/2021 14:30

Yes I wouldn't view it unless I had factored in money to completely replace

NoseOfJericho · 11/03/2021 14:32

I would buy a house solely for that kitchen. I love blue and I love the style. So many kitchens look like laboratories or grey and characterless, or shiny and hideous, or probably the worst - both red and shiny.

I want that kitchen.

Anordinarymum · 11/03/2021 14:33

I love the colour. It's all down to individual taste though at the end of the day.

zzzebra · 11/03/2021 14:34

Right now, no. In 5 years time, probably.

It's a lovely kitchen but I'd worry it'd date quickly. That said, there is always the option to get it paused a different colour before you sell.

Snowball70 · 11/03/2021 14:38

very nice 🌺

EL8888 · 11/03/2021 14:38

No. We are trying to move house at the moment and that’s gorgeous compared to the tut most people have.

FuckyouBrennan · 11/03/2021 14:39

No but then I wouldn’t usually keep the previous owners decor.

tootiredtospeak · 11/03/2021 14:41

I think it's a bit much but only as a personal opinion. I am not keen on blue but would happily have green cupboards, cant see it would stop you selling.

malloo · 11/03/2021 14:42

It's pretty neutral, I quite like it. Most important is the design of the kitchen, if its laid out well with good appliances then changing the doors is easy, I can't see people being put off by that. There's no point trying to second guess what peoples taste might be in 5 years, just get something you like.

riotlady · 11/03/2021 14:44

No, I love it

malloo · 11/03/2021 14:45

You could always have white for your top cabinets and keep the blue on the bottom as a compromise. Combining two can look really stylish.

JohnandMary · 11/03/2021 14:51

It’s funny, I would actively seek out a shaker style kitchen and, although I wouldn’t choose blue if I was installing it, it’s neutral enough to not offend me. But as this thread shows, whatever you do 50% will love it and 50% will hate it so do what you want.

Babygotblueyes · 11/03/2021 14:52

I love it. Think blue and green kitchens will be the next thing.

thelegohooverer · 11/03/2021 14:52

I think that if you’d posed the same question about a shaker kitchen, or an all white kitchen, or a type of floor you’d probably get a similar range of responses.

I have quite a few people who’ve been stuck in houses that were never supposed to be forever homes, because their financial circumstances changed for various reasons. It’s not uncommon.

Have what you like and enjoy it.

MotherOfChaos28 · 11/03/2021 14:53

I love that, it’s exactly the colour I want for my kitchen.

scrivette · 11/03/2021 14:56

I am not sure I would actually choose it to put in myself but I love it, it's really pretty and fairly neutral really.

tentative3 · 11/03/2021 14:57

I wouldn't choose it but it wouldn't put me off buying, though I'd be happier if it was wood so could be repainted.

MondeoFan · 11/03/2021 14:59

No I love it. It's my fave ever colour like a duck egg blue. I don't think it'll date as long as you have enough White to brighten it up
