Would this blue kitchen put you off buying a house?

We're in the process of getting a new kitchen from Howdens and like the look of Fairford Blue. We're not planning on moving any time soon, but we don't think this is our forever home either and may consider moving at some point down the line (perhaps in five years time). Would this colour put you off buying a house? We really like it, but would also be happy going with a more neutral colour. Not sure what to do, so your thoughts (either way) would be very welcome. Thanks! Here's a link to the kitchen on YouTube:

More money than sense

redcandlelight · 11/03/2021 11:59

no.
it's subtle enough to be 'neutral' imo.
not something I would chose myself but I would definitely consider keeping it if I bought a property with it in it.

murbblurb · 11/03/2021 12:02

not at all, it isn't my style but nothing paint or new doors wouldn't fix. Your house, have what you like.

that head-injury hazard of a cooker hood would be ripped straight out though!

tava63 · 11/03/2021 12:02

I personally love it. Also likely that Howdens is around in 5 years so replacing doors could be done easily then if such a big problem.

PattyPan · 11/03/2021 12:02

No, I think that's lovely. Plus it could always be painted or the doors replaced if the rest of it is still in good nick.
I have white high-gloss doors (here when we bought the house) and I despise them - I would be much more put off by glossyness than by colour.

RedMarauder · 11/03/2021 12:03

I have shaker style doors and my kitchen is a cream colour. Had it for 10 years now. I was actually looking at a different colour but ended up with cream as not all the doors I wanted where in stock.

The only kitchens I have an issue with are dark wood or anything that looks like it came from the 1980s/early 1990s.

notalwaysalondoner · 11/03/2021 12:03

I like it a lot - and agree with others, you have to accept whatever you do, there will be a substantial chunk of people that won't like it anyway...

Kdee52 · 11/03/2021 12:06

I dont like the colour personally. But if I was moving and the kitchen was good/new and I just didnt like the colour, I would paint the cabinets the colour I like. It's not a big deal. I think people would much prefer a new and well kept kitchen than worry about the colour. Buy the kitchen you want and love OP.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/03/2021 12:09

I'd much rather have a structurally sound house, that has been looked after, than worry about previous owners decor choices. One is easy to change, the other isn't.

Avaganda · 11/03/2021 12:14

I like it, but then I'm not too keen on boring grey or white.

muddyford · 11/03/2021 12:16

This is like the kitchen in this house when I bought it. It didn't put me off at all. I kept it as it looks so nice. But the previous owners had painted the walls the same blue. I repainted in Dulux Swedish White.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 11/03/2021 12:16

I love the colour and style.

Jins · 11/03/2021 12:16

I don’t like it but I’m unusual in preferring natural wood rather than foil, wrapped or painted finishes so I’m always budgeting for a kitchen refurb when buying.

peachypetite · 11/03/2021 12:18

I’ve never been bothered by decor when buying a house. For a kitchen I’m looking at space not what colour the cabinets are.

SignsofSpring · 11/03/2021 12:18

All kitchens date. I've got a really dated kitchen from the 80's and it's a classic! No amount of painting it would hide the styling so I've got to replace it to look even vaguely modern. I think the same is true of the lighter cupboards/dark worktops combo, again, it was of its time and not many are installed like that now, although I think personally it looks nice. That's a very contemporary, of its time, nice kitchen but it will look like the time in which it is purchased. It's like buying jeans, you can feel like they are timeless but they absolutely aren't and they date over a decade or so. Don't let that bother you though, it looks lovely right now and I'd get it on that basis. You can always repaint/have the outsides covered professionally in 5-10 years time if you decide to sell and you think that's holding you back.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/03/2021 12:18

I'm always far more concerned with layout than with the colour of the kitchen units. The doors can be replaced at a reasonable cost but ripping out and replacing a badly laid out kitchen can be quite steep, especially just after you've had a load of moving costs.

IsadoraQuagmire · 11/03/2021 12:19

It's lovely.

Tal45 · 11/03/2021 12:20

I think as long as everything else is very neutral and plain then it really works. It won't be to everyone's taste but nor will whatever you get x

dishydishemup · 11/03/2021 12:20

Really nice!

SignsofSpring · 11/03/2021 12:21

To me the colour is fine, I don't like shaker style doors though. To me they will always look dated anyway

I suppose I think of Shaker style more as timeless, but they aren't high fashion for sure so could be considered dated.

If the kitchen is bad when I view, I mentally budget for a replacement, but replacing kitchens is hard work and it's always better if there's one that's ok. I'm sure that would be ok in 5-10 years time

FinallyFluid · 11/03/2021 12:21

Too blue for me, but [disclaimer] I don't like blue as a colour, but if you like it, buy it.

We have the Fairford navy with pale yellow walls and it works well.

LadyCatStark · 11/03/2021 12:26

I love it! But will I love it in 5 years time?

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/03/2021 12:27

Nope. I think it looks lovely.

Pickupapigeon · 11/03/2021 12:31

I like it. I probably wouldn’t choose it but it definitely wouldn’t put me off the house. It’s nice enough that you could live with it even if not to personal taste and wooden doors are easy enough to have repainted.

Els1e · 11/03/2021 12:35

No, wouldn’t put me off. I wouldn’t choose it but if it was in a property I wanted, I would be quite happy.
